I think it’s like Fumi said, most of us were raised in a world that doesn’t exist anymore, namely the world of “get married and stay in your husbands house!”. I’m South African and my one married Zimbabwean friends said in reference to cheating and diseases: “Whatever comes will meet me in my husbands house!”. Times have changed but the needs are the same. As a businesswoman, learned to be independent at a very young age as an orphan, I was also shocked when I started feeling the need to be loved & taken care of. That feminine need. This is why women nowadays no matter how independent would choose to still settle with a provider, so long he provides and is caring and does not embarrass her publicly she will settle. Because the other thing is that when you grow to be an adult, sometimes you will realize that love is not always certain. That Prince Charming is not always certain but a caring man who provides and does not abuse you physically nor emotionally, is close enough. The streets are dry Aunty Fumi. You divorce today because your husband cheated then you go to become another married man’s side chick or a sugar mama to a Ben10 who cheats on you & only wants you for your money.
And it’s worse because women today have invested a lot in being the ideal partner. Educated, intelligent, independent, extremely beautiful sometimes going under the knife to achieve that beauty but with all that we seldom get an inch of what our grand mothers and great grand mothers got, our elders who rarely invested in their appearance nor intelligence got a lot more love & respect. A man today struggles to even want to built you a house or treat you better but our grandfathers gave their wives their cheques and she decided what to do with it even how much to give him to spend on nights out. She would even make sure that he didn’t have enough to afford a side chick.
I think what women of today need is to learn how to balance their feminine energy & today’s society standards of being a woman who can do it all alone.
