It's nice that even though he's gone insane, Rimmer still has an eye for fashion and knows the dress and the shoes don't match
It was the mop cap that made it through😂
Rimmer's shriek is one of the best moments of series 5. I'll admit it: I almost choked to death laughing.
Love Listers face palm after not sure if he did it to hide a laugh.
I call my 7 month old Arnold Rimmer because he does a loud scream like that 😂
One of the best insane moments ever.
I know a guy named Keith who used to do that noise especially when he'd find out there's no fish fingers left in the freezer
“Just a little test… a little test to see if you had gone crazy… EEEUUUURRRR”
_"I think our only hope's the Potato King."_
lol
Catzilla I was
classic cat
The potato king is mad
I miss the old Red Dwarf. It was so well written.
That shriek Rimmer lets out at 0:54 is actually genuinely startling if it catches you off guard.
I love how the music accompanying Rimmer talking about the potato King makes it seem like a very cruel and evil ruler despite the humorous concept
Try saying "Because the King of the Potato People won't let me" with a straight face.
***** I can't even read it in my head with a straight face.
***** It is impossible
Physically impossible
It shows just how much of a genius Chris Barrie is.
***** yes agreed wait was did he pass away or something
I was just doing a little test. A little test to see if you've gone crazy. DHTOOOOOOO!!!! Cracks me up every time.
The way he clenches his fists and bunches up his dress as he says it.
Me too
That genuinely scared me the first time I saw it.
SuperSK1LLS apparently it cracked up the cast too, and it took them far longer than usual to shoot this scene because they couldn’t stop laughing.
@@rockoperajon probaly why Lister covered his face, aha!
"If there is one thing I can't stand, its crazy people." Brilliant show!!!
My absolute favorite Rimmer scene.
"Because the King of the Potato People won't let me. i begged him. i got down on my knees and wept."
BRILLIANT lmao
"so let me get this straight. you want to fly on a magic carpet to see the king of the potato people and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you're completely sane?"
that definitely warrants two hour of WOO
Rudi van Disarzio "that'll tech you to be bread baskets."
Well, if he said that in any other context, he would have a point. :P
I read this as it was said
@BlackDeathViral03 A long, long time ago. The closest Ireland has to a king now is Michael D. Higgins.
FLEEUUUUUUUUUGHHHH!
0:52 Timestamp. For the glory of the King of the Potato People.
I’m not sure if that’s how to spell it but its so good!
"I was just doing a little test. A test to see if you'd gone crazy. FEUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
-Arnold Judas Rimmer
0:52 lister having to cover his face. Apparently that was because he was trying to hide a laugh
"I got down on my knees. . .and wept"
hahahahahaha
I've got to be honest, the first time I watched this I was absolutely terrified, Mr Rimmer is an astounding actor.
I remember watching this on TV when it was aired and not being able to breathe because of laughing so hard.
Army boots, potato king, magic carpet, without oxygen, a very strange outburst... all conspire to crack me up!
Chris Barry is amazing i can not watch this scene with a straight face it's impossible
To this day. Rimmer is that you. Oh yes. Has me in stitches
I love all the different ways people are trying to capture the sound Rimmer makes at 0:51 Hilarious.
I watched the first broadcast of this and wet myself just as Rob and Doug intended. Re-watching now, can I just say that Chris's delivery really shows his acting chops? It is both hilarious, and really creepy at the same time. Many actors can do one, or the other, or even do one in one sitting and the other another, but to do both at the same time is very impressive.
Still the only moment in Red Dwarf that really scared me and crept me out for days afterwards. When it's revealed he's been listening and watching like that the whole time.
luckyspurs maybe it's the music that made it scary
One... maybe two hours...
The terrifying thing is the realisation that the one who was really affected by the virus was the one in control, and not only does he not realise he is insane but he knows he doesn't realise he's insane and carries on as if everything he says is perfectly fine.
The music adds a lot to it.
I love this episode, especially Rimmer going nuts here and Kryten malfunctioning. Two and one half badgers please.
Is it wrong that I have genuinely used the excuse "Because the king of the potato people won't let me"?
0:54 Lister's reaction kills me.
This is my all time fave episode. 'Back to Reality' and Polymorph' were contenders, but this one nearly killed me when I saw it back then. V was the series running when I first starting watching Red Dwarf so I like all the episodes from that series especially. Chris Barrie deserved an award for this one.
excluding holoship and back to reality I found this particular series to be pretty dark and creepy
Back to reality, when the whole episode was about them being tricked and encouraged into committing suicide? that seems pretty dark to me. Also this Episode is golden.
@Stefano Pavone I find season one and two to be the definitive seasons.
Stefano Pavone
6 for me. 5 veered too far into the sci-fi creature of the week format.
Chris Barrie wished he’d played it more scarily.
Which makes you wonder how mad the character would have been THEN...
one of the funniest scenes in anything ever
ALL HAIL THE POTATO KING
+Simon The Digger death to the potato king! kill him and eat him with a side salad thats what i say.
+Simon The Digger by the way i like your first name! its a pretty good name one of the best i have seen.
Simon0 TRAITOR! And thankyou but, it is pronounced See-Mone
Atticus Shadowmore ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY GLOW CLOUD!!!
Atticus Shadowmore HOW DARE YOU COMMIT BLASPHEMY AGAINST YOURSELF, LORD INFERNO COP!!!
Red dwarf 5 was easily the darkest dwarf series of the lot.
When I first saw this episode, I was secretly hoping that the King of the Potato People would make a little cameo appearance. Plus, I would've loved to have seen Lister, Cat and Kryten flying on a magic carpet together!
You are saying that you want to see the king of the potato people? And see Lister fly a magic carpet? And you're telling me you're completely sane? That warrants two hours of WOO.
This has to be one of my favorite scenes in this show
"A little test to see if you went crazy...OOOOOOOOOGH!" XDDD
No lie my psychiatrist was Dr. Richard from the survivor series. He went nuts and went on that show. The face paint and all that stuff wasn't an act..he went full rimmer 😂
This episode aged perfectly!
One of the most hilarious scenes from one of the best series....... "Do you have a magic carpet?"
Yeah yeah, it's a little three-seater.
Brilliant acting by Chris Barrie. He should had gotten a BAFTA for his performance. 0:46
"So let me get this straight; you want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and beg him for your freedom, and you're telling me your're completely sane?"
That line is one of the many reasons why this is my favourite RD episode! That and Mr Flibble, of course. XD
“Do you have a magic carpet?” 🤪
“Ya a three seater 👋🏼”
One of the best red dwarf scenes ever!!! Classic. I really hope the new series is half as good as this
this is best episode of Red Dwarf ever! I laughed so hard when Rimmer pulled out Mr. Flibbles!
1 week of self quarantine and now I relate to rimmer
Me self-isolating because of COVID-19.
Yes, but unlike Rimmer because he caught the Holo-Virus, COVID-19 dosen't drive humans metal psycho insane.
Does anyone else think that noise Rimmer makes at 0:52 is kind of terrifying.
Adam Besley, Yes very.
I once did that in front of my wife and she thought it was terrifying.
CHOOOUUUGH!!
It's even more terrifying played at 0.25.
I do it all the time when I'm at work, for some reason though people there don't really like to be around me.
I finally found this after seeing it on the Critical Drinker.
Same here
that face he has when he sees Rummer in a dress LOL
If you ignore the background laughter it's actually quite a chilling scene, especially with the tense music playing.
I like to think the director and all the actors played out this scene as straight horror. Which makes it even more effective.
Arguably the best episode of Red Dwarf.
Amazon have sold out of army boots and Gingham dresses... HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Scary thing is, this is how most employers behave now. Creepy secret surveillance and completely irrational, completely unaware of how insane they look.
I am currently in quarantine in Shanghai and I can't stop thinking about this episode.
Last year at school, a teacher asked me if I was insane. My only response was "SCHHUUUUUUURRRRRRRRGGGHHH!" I got detention for a month. Worth it though.
No, you didn't, Tumblerina
"Rimmer's Gone Wrong"? Was he ever right??
Not in the strictest sense. However, if we are grading on a curve of rightness, then the red and white checked gingham dress is definitely going wrong. Rimmer doesn't have the figure for that dress.
Gregory Bogosian he looks completly mental
Covid-19 sent me here😂
“Because the king of the potato people won’t let me” to this day whenever I refuse somebody something and they ask why, that’s the exact reason I give them :)
Im going to use this as well nice one 🤣
One of my absolute favourite episodes of Red Dwarf! I noticed Chris Barrie used the same voice for Rimmer's inner critic in the Series XII episode Timewave.
"CHOOOO! If it's one thing I can't stand.....it's crazy people!"
I remember the first time I saw this episode. I was a kid (no older than 10 or so) and I couldn’t sleep, so I turned on the tv and caught this episode, starting with this scene. Because it was so late, my brain was operating weirdly and I got genuinely frightened by it. Though, in my defense, the music and that guttural howl definitely didn’t help matters!
One of the best scenes!! Hell yeah!!! :D :D Red dwarf is one of the best English serials. God bless english kind of humor. :D
Even though this is one of the funniest scenes of Red Dwarf, I am genuinely scared of Rimmer in this ep!
'We're All Saine Man!'
'Well That's Good...'
'FRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHH'
rofl. xD I love rimmer he fucking rules.
I know this is a comedy, but I always get a little nervous watching this. Rimmer’s descent into madness is terrifying.
"The potato king" that's gonna be my new callsign lol😂😂😂
One of the funniest scenes from one of the greatest shows ever! Thanks for sharing!
corn on the cob guards stopped me from seeing the potato king :(
"I think our only hopes the Potato King" "Hmmm REQUEST DENIED!"
My favourite moment when Lister puts his head in his hand lol
0.53 priceless
Rimmer is like Hannibal Lector in this scene.
Their only hope is the king of the potato people
Dork Jedi Damn right I am.
The actor for Rimmer was always amazing in this show but this segment might be the pinnacle in Red Dwarf
haha! "can we see him?"
i love this show.
Do you have a magic carpet?
I....am the King of the Potato People....and they never did come to see me ?
supersesqui NO YOU’RE NOT....I AM.
0:51 LOL
hahaha! the bit where he goes DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
hahaha! omg! that never gets old!
Seems most appropriate at this time in 2020 #coronavirus
i'd still have him ;)
For dinner? :P
Jennifer Filips if he likes eating out :)
One of my favourite episodes!
"I can't let you out. Because the King of the Potato People won't let me"
"If there's one thing I can't stand, it's crazy people."
The noise at 0:51 has me in stitches everytime.
Cat was my brother's favorite character! I think each of them have hilarious and quirky personalities and their own special importance! :D
0:51 when you keep getting the same 30 second unskippable ad
the best part is how he's holding his dress, it's brutal! :D
Don't forget, "That'll teach you to be bread baskets."
This scene is surprisingly creepy. Rimmers actor is amazing
OMG 0:53 makes me laugh so much! Love red dwarf!
lol funniest ever, "yeh a little 3 seater"
OPPAN GINGHAM STYLE!
To this day I can still quote this entire scene. :D
This is probably the best episode of Red dwarf I ever saw! Which means that its possibly one of the best episodes of anything ever seen on T.V as Red Dwarf in general is pretty damn fine (until Kochansky gets involved, then it goes all pants, but they do redeem themselves in the next series when they get incarcerated on nanoed Red dwarf). Possibly the only other episode to compare with this is Queeg from the first series, as that had a brilliant ending and build up.
I could watch 0:52 over and over. Makes me laugh every time!
0:52 Llewellyn makes that noise now when you mention his favourite political development starting with B
I've got all 8 series of this on DVD. I occasionally watch some episodes.
I just saw a clip of the USA version... I feel like killing myself now...
The UK version brings me joy an laughter.
never heard of the u.s. version. I imagine they treated it like they did one foot in the grave and made the main character happy because they don't like grumpy characters 🤦
Has to be godawful. Much like the price the bbc charges for a DVD 😱
I've lost my voice, which means I can only just laugh... I've seen this countless times and the section at 0:45 always - and I mean always - makes me laugh, but this time I nearly died because I stopped breathing... I don't think the King of the Potato People wanted me to laugh :P
I find it hard to choose my favourite series. I love the early ones for their nostalgic and zany sci-fi appeal, but the later episodes are so funny. Quarantine is one episode that EVERYBODY loves. So many top-quality jokes, good music, excellent script and what a cast.
One of the best red dwarf episodes and such a great scene
I think our only hope is the Potato King.
I love The Cat. xD
Using this clip to introduce friends to the show. I need more people I know to watch it so they don't look at me so strangely when I quote it.
0.54 i think robert was really trying not to crack up..
