My guess is, this 'heavenly' dimension contains pot noodle varieties such as Bombay Bad Boy, or Tikka Masala, which must be absent in the normal universe. Knowing Lister, this is probably just what popped out of the food dispenser...! LOL
In Japan, people are sometimes divided into Ramen Fans and Curry Fans. Curry fans could eat curry every day and never get sick of it, but don't care for ramen, and Ramen fans are the opposite. The way Lister talks about the pot noodle, it sounds like he must prefer Curry. And it turns out he actually does!
Lol! The Divine Cat sounds like he’s naturally American trying to do an English accent, whilst Danny John-Jules is actually English being American in this series! 😂
I think the reason they're scary is that our evolutionary instincts tell us everyone has a dark side, so if you don't see one, it's horrific enough to hide.
I suppose the higher crew have a more eerie vibe to them. But what makes the lower crew worse is not how scary they seem, but how disgusting their morals are.
A human soul and an enlightened robot: *We occupy our time with philosophy, poetry, musings on the nature of existence, music, and study, seeking to become more than the semi-endless lives we have been afforded by technology and perception.* A.J. Rimmer: *What a pair of losers.*
@@enigmaomega4471 I remember that episode where clones were made based on the character's thoughts, which meant the clone Lister was an amazing guitar player because real Lister thought he was.
@@michaelmartin9022 do you mean the episode psirens - creatures which could use telepathy give themselves the illusion of being a clone of a person, right down to copying their personality, and the way the crew was able to tell real Lister apart from the psiren was bc the psiren copied Lister's delusion of being an amazing guitar player.
"Brother Rimmer is portraying agony..." Too bad Cat or Lister didn't snap back with "Checks out, but sharing a bunk with him... That gives that word a new meaning."
Plot hole: When Cat and Lister eat the devine Pot Noodle, Lister mentions that he played pool with planets. Yet in "White Hole" when Lister did play pool with planets, one of the planets went into the white hole causing it to be destroyed and time to be temporary altered and the Red Dwarf crew sent back prior to the episode with no memories of the "White Hole" and Lister playing pool with planets. If all memory of Lister playing pool with planets was erased from their memories, why and how does Lister remember?
Maybe the space time continuum in the red dwarf universe had been messed up so much that by that point multiple timelines and realities existed all at the same time, because of this the higher powers of the red dwarf universe merged the timelines to keep the universe stable; consequently one of the side effects of this could be that the new merged timeline contains many overlaps and anomalies, for example lister retaining memories from a time period that imploded on itself when time hit the reset button. It's either this or the writers on red dwarf never fully realised just how much a plot hole the pot noodle joke would bring up before it was too late to cut the joke out of the script for the episode.
what would be the American version of pot noodle -- that is, something so gross that the only edible version would be possible in the nice side of the universe? Spam? Papa John's pizza?
Kamen Raider117 Ace has enough flaws to understand normal people, violence is considered a flaw in this. Also, if they made the highers badass like Ace, then they couldn't justify killing them off.
I love this episode but I'm always disappointed by how shallow the highs and lows are. I mean this is character analysis gold and they waste it on the most basic caricature of good/bad
of the top of my head I would do: Rimmer; High, Ace. Low, same (though I wish they expanded on the queer reading) Lister; High, very caring and considerate. Low, slob, violent, self centered. Cat; High, loyal, affectionate, brings gifts (like a cat). Low, unsociable, selfish, feral Kryten; High, fully broken coding. Low, factory setting
Unless you're one of those "quest for the historical Jesus" weirdos, I think we can safely say he was as much as and much more than a hippie. The God-man who offered "peace the world cannot give" was also "the carpenter who cleared the Temple". All things in their right time and place.
All those years I watched Red Dwarf I thought ‘pot noodle’ was a generic term for an instant noodle cup. I had no idea Pot Noodle was an actual brand. Do the British make fun of it the same way Americans poke at Hostess Twinkies?
"That's weird, because I find spiritual and intellectual fulfilment a distraction from the pursuit of clothes" :-D
Must have been fun for them to play completely different roles for the show.
The looks on Lister and Cat's face at 0:49 are priceless.
Was literally going to post exact thing

The higher self ship is what happens when you smoke the pot noodles.
"What a pair of losers!" XD

"He was. He had long hair and no job."
He did have a job, he was a carpenter.
Zacharias Vaught and ended up getting killed on the exact thing that he made stuff with something seems fishy about that story

He was a carpenter wasn't he?
@@Enzo012 He was a carpenter, the city of Nazareth was expanding during his lifetime so there was steady work.
This episode makes me hungry for Ramen.
I DIED laughing. mannn Red Dwarf is just awesome

Well difference is, in Japan Ramen is gorgeous. Pot Noodle is essentially like fast food noodles. Low quality and cheap.
It's the only thing that his one remaining taste bud responds to.
He shouldn't have remembered playing pool with planets.
Ha! That's true. Well spotted.
Why is that?
@@DirectorHMAN They closed the White Hole, so it deleted that bit of the timeline.

Haikus are easy,

Refrigerator.

this is a pretty good episode...one of my favorites
2:09 I don't either. If that happened to Rimmer, he'd disappear.

LMAO
If I happened upon a Pot Noodle that tasted good I'd be immediately concerned for my wellbeing.

If their faces were any closer, they be kissing
I find it ironic that higher cat is wearing a yin yang symbol on his forehead when is only half of said symbol.
I think the higher crew are unintentionally scarier than the lower crew.
Georgio16100 what episode is this?
I totally agree, except it may be on purpose
I see nothing particularly wrong - though I do not think all better parts of us are merely philosophers and poets.

I'm not a fan of pot noodles anymore, but now I want one T _ T
red dwarf was and still is brilliant.
I can't believe videos in 240p still exist in 2021.
I always loved the chicken and mushroom ones
Never seen pot noodles here use Raman and cup of soup. Now got Orient noodles last 5 years actually just noodles.
Ahh.. When Red Dwarf was good.

If I was on that ship and wanted to see how good the food was, I would’ve ordered quiche, the one dish I can’t stand.
I would have ordered something with coriander. Tastes and smells like grass and piss
I'd get a banquet of surf and turf, even shrimp.
These comments are just making me hungry. I love quiche! I can't have it though because of gluten/dairy intolerance
I love pot noodles.
I coulda stayed there for a while.
