    I cant lie. I know how to play Gloomhaven, and have been playing a bit of Jaws of the Lion since its release. I understand the rules completely, and as I play Gloomhaven about 5 times a week, I'm not really in need of a refresher. Yet still I enjoy watching Rodney's videos, and have for years. Sometimes Ill just watch Rodney's videos for entertainment. These videos you've made, from Gloomhaven to Mansions of Madness and from Small World to Arcadia Quest, have been the most clear and informative board game explanations on the internet. Can't wait for the fifth video, thank you for your contribution to the board game society Rodney.

    I was talking to a co-worker who said she and her husband got Jaws of the Lion for Christmas. They are very casual gamers. But when she mentioned they’d watched an instructional video featuring a super nice guy with glasses, I knew it must be Rodney. It just makes me excited to see people discovering the hobby. Thank you for being such a great ambassador for the hobby.
    Now if only I could get them to listen to some Boardgame podcasts, then I know they’re hooked.

    Hey Rodney, loved the video as always! Once thing I'd add and like to leave here as a comment since I see lots of newbies confused about this, one side effect of how the elements work is that if for example air was already strong or waning at the start of your turn, you could in the same turn in any order use the bottom part of Power Pitch which generates air and the top part of Stopping Power which consumes air to, Stopping Power would consume the already existing air and Power Pitch would generate new air at the end of your turn as you explained, even if you are using Power Pitch first and Stopping Power second.

    • @Skarpo89

      I know this is a logical result from what you explained, but I see some people having trouble with this (from normal Gloomhaven) so I thought about making it clear : )

    Thank you for your excellent videos. We've been playing this one, relying on just the rulebook, for the first 3 scenarios, but then work got busy and we had to take a break from the campaign for a few months. Now we're trying to pick it back up at scenario 4, and your videos are helping a tremendous amount. We were about to quit the game entirely, because it seemed too much to re-learn, but then we watched your videos and all is right with the world. We just barely lost scenario 4 on our first try. Going to try again today. I've been watching your videos for years. You are one of my favorite UA-camrs. Thanks for the great content. 😊

    This Scenario 4 is the hardest compared to the earlier Scenarios 1-3.
    I almost lose this Scenario with my Hatchet is the only one left with card balance before he killed off the final monster.

    Hi Rodney! Thanks for all your awesome vids! I have a couple of doubts about attacking objectives: it says that you can only do melee against them, but what about if your attack card says "ranged" but you're adjacent to an objective - can you use that attack as melee with a disasvantage? And my second question: there are a number of melee-range card effects like the Red Guard's "all adjacent enemies suffer one damage" - do these cards also affect objectives, although they are not labeled as attacks per se?
    Thanks!

    • @WatchItPlayed
      @WatchItPlayed  2 роки тому

      If it says melee attack, you can't used a ranged attack against it (even if you're at melee distance).
      Regarding the melee-range effects: I do my best to answer all rules questions on the games I cover, but I avoid individual card effects, as that's a level of detail beyond what I can manage across all the videos I do. I'd suggest checking the rules forum for the game on BoardGameGeek or the publishers website. I hope you can find your answer there - have fun playing!

    Great video!
    I'm a little bit in doubt about if the dotted lines also affect the elements. For example in the card down in the video (stopping power) in the lower half, is the element only infused of you use the immobilize action or is it also infused of you use the Move 3 action without using immobilize?
    My guess would be that if your use any of the two actions you must infused the element, get experience and loose the card. Correct?

  • @jhok9649
    @jhok9649 3 роки тому

    Hey Rodney, quick question. You might have already answered this in a previous video, but I still thought I’d ask. I came across an instance in which an enemy was out of range to attack my character. However, the monster ability card also instructed me to infuse any element to disarm my character. I know that if an attack is attempted, (even if there is no damage inflicted) your character suffers the condition. Do I still suffer the disarm condition if no attack was made by the monster? Thanks!

    Thanks for the video! I have a question.
    That Phase Out card that gives 5 shields and heal 1 (adding an element), is that a boss only card? If it is a regular monster card, how do we use it? The way I understand shield is, every time we deal 1 damage to a monster, we take away a shield symbol from its slot on the monster stat mat. So if player one did 2 damage, player two did 1 damage, and then player three did 3 damage, the monster finally takes 1 damage on player 3's turn.
    I did some research online, and some seem to say that the monster simply get a 5 reduction to any attack damage it takes for this whole round. This effect ends as soon as the next round begins.
    And that card has initiative 5. It will be hard to hit and damage the monster, before it put up its shields.

But We find it a little bit hard to solve how to use the actioncards that should be active over time. Me as an exampel that play Viodwarden with "Master Influence - 83 initiative", how to solve this tophalf of the card? What is actual the diffrence between an "Attack" and the actual state on card "Grant an attack"? or should I take them for the same? Does it mather if I attack by my self or throu another monster or player? Also, Do I get the 2 experience EVERY time I attack or only once when I set up the card as active? As far as I see in my level 1deck this Card will probly be the base for my build for many scenarios ahead so I realy wanna have this right? Another card I do think needs a clarification is the bottom half of "Signs of the Void - 15 initiative". Do I move my marker every turn whatever or do I move marker every time I actually attack? Sorry for detailquestion here but I had nowhere else to go ;-) Hope its alright with ya? Anyway, Happy New Year 2021 to you all out there! Stay safe and lets play us out of this dark tides... ;-)

      These are actually fair questions that you have. I am playing a Void warden too with my too brothers playing Hatchet and Red Guard. We had the same problem too we ran out of cards and lost in this scenario. As for your questions I think Master Influence y ou get the experience one time and it triggers when you grant an attack to an ally or a monster but not for your attacks.
      As for the Signs of the Void I am not sure. I trigger it every turn even if I don’t have a target but I am not sure if that’s correct.

      “The Favorite” card is essentially Hatchet’s favorite weapon. When he throws it, it does +3 extra damage but also gets lodged into the enemy. When the enemy dies, Hatchet can retrieve his weapon from the dead body.
      The way this works in the game is that you “activate” it by choosing the top of “The Favorite” card. When you do, place the card to the top of your player mat. Put a circle “hatchet” token on top of the card. On a later attack (of your choice) do an extra +3 damage and then move the hatchet token from “The Favorite” card to the monster’s status card. When the monster dies, take the token from their card and place it on the hex where the monster died (along with a coin as usual). Hatchet can then retrieve this token by ending his turn on that hex, or using a Loot action from nearby. The token then goes back on top of “The Favorite” card, where it can be used for a future attack. Note that other players can loot the coin where the monster died, but not Hatchet’s token.

      Yeah, the game once you go beyond the first five scenarios I think it's almost identical to normal Gloomhaven, it's just meant to be more approachable as Rodney said because of this intro scenarios and the smaller campaign for people that don't want to have to make as huge an investment in time as normal Gloomhaven requires.
