Wow the SF 40 ringed version, never had one on my hands cause the hobby shop near us just tend to have in stock the 46 size instead of the 40, also remenber the OS 46 sf reverse rotation, os had the conversion cranckshaft suitable for twin engine kits, the normal rotation engine was placed on the left wing and reverse rotation on the right, to compensate the gyroscopic and torque effect in the case one engine quit in flight

David, from your memory, what year was the FT-300 released? Mine is a very early one.

No need for memory Mike, I simply consult the available OS engine timeline. Available for the OS website. The FT-300 was released in 1986.

I have a question: i am 16 and just bought my first engine (HP40 gold cup). Do rc plane engine con rods wear out the same way as rc car engine con rods? My engine is in pretty good condition so i just want to know if the con rod is a critical part to look after.

Please do not take offense to my answer. If you are 16 and wearing connecting rods out on RC car engines, then you need to run airplane engines a bit gentler. There is an entire mindset change for you between a car engine and an airplane engine with regards to care and operation. There are very limited replacement parts for that engine, if any. You wear out the conrod or any other component then you have a pretty doorstop. I would recommend you buy an engine that is currently manufactured and has replacement parts available.

@@dmrcflyr2 I am haven't own a rc car, it was just a reference, but i just want to know if the connecting rod is a weak point in rc plane engines.

Whomever told you that rc car engine conrods don’t last didn’t take very good care of the engines. I have run RC cars and trucks for many years as well and NEVER lost a connecting rod. It is very simple, care for and operate an engine properly and within the design parameters and it will last a lifetime minus consumable parts like bearings, ring, and glow plugs. Treat them poorly, over rev, etc. and expect to purchase many engines.

@@dmrcflyr2 Thanks, this is what i meant. i have all the proper oils and stuff to keep it running for a long time. i am not planning to put it on a plane. I just want to enjoy it in a test stand and maybe do some other projects with it.

That was my first glow engine that my father bought for me in the early 90 s along with a modeltech trainer 40H and hitec focus 4 radio. I got a tonn of flights with that combo. On both skiis and wheels. Only rudder and elevator controll though 😅

What a score. I saw it on the bay but resigned from buying from that seller due to his rating score. So glad you didn't get burned. This is a fantastic engine especially being ringed. A real stump puller. BTW, I have the 46SF manual if you want it.

Thanks Mike. It would be nice to add the 46SF manual to my Google Drive for all to see. This is a 40 SF and it came with the manual.

Stunning quality from the SF. Although I would love this engine with the FSR styled “torpedo” muffler rather than the swivel type.
A request David if you could remove the baffle in the muffler that would be sweet!👌🏻

The baffle in the exhaust has been removed.
