"The Fitzpatrick brothers first gained recognition for their engine expertise as control line speed fliers in the 1960s" RCM, JUNE 1993, $3.25. Still have it around here.
This engine runs very well on "straight" (FAI) fuel; hand starting, I'd ruled that our from the beginning :) But since you have your starter that's no biggie. Great run, adequately powerful, very nice looking, thank you very much David! Regards Harry
I keep a small squeeze bottle with a long slender tip on it full of fuel, and I'll squirt a couple drops down the carburetor on the known to be hard to start engines that I own. Gets em fired up and running in no time. I can even get my stone cold Cox .020 Pee Wee engines started with the first flick, no starter spring required. I took those springs off ALL of my tiny Cox motors. No use for them.
I’ve never used a bit of hose for hand starting, just used my bare finger. Many years ago, I had seen blokes use a special rubber finger stall to protect their finger.
Do as you wish. I have used my hand to start hundreds of engines on this channel. I have also been damaged doing so. It is your body, do as you see fit.
I was not offended. Here in the US they sell these things called ‘chicken sticks’. Hard to believe you have never heard of them before. hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-starter-stick-for-gas-glow-engines.html
I've always just used fingers also... but I do NOT put my finger tips a Ross the edge of the prop when I start the engines. I put 2 finger tips flat against the FRONT of the prop blade, and give it a flick. That way, you can NEVER get bit by the blade during a kick-back or quick startup.
Nice motor runs. Ys would like to see 5-10% runs, or jst go to look inside. I got a SKYWARD 6O (rebranded PICCO) NIB I bought months ago if this fits the bill for the channel hit me up. Thanks for all you do.
David, did you notice if it seems to run hotter or cooler with the FAI fuel compared to the 10%. The helicopter guys I know claim that it will run cooler with more nitromathane.
I used to to run 20% nitro in my .21 car engines with a hot glow plug. I switched to 30% nitro with a medium plug, and the engines run stronger and cooler as a result. Edit: SOMETIMES you will need to add a head shim when going up in nitro content, so that it lowers the engine's compression a bit. If the compression is too high for the nitro percentage you are using, the engine CAN experience detonation issues, and that will ruin an engine VERY quickly. I personally have never had to add a head shim when switching from 20% to 30% nitro, but I've ALWAYS had to switch to a step down in the glow plug heat range.
Nice running Fitzgerald, er Fitzpatrick. Lol Question... What do you define as FAI fuel? I have heard some say its just no nitro fuel regardless of oil mix and others claim that its 80/20 (methanol/castor) ONLY and nothing else. Noticed you had company in the background. Not sure if the person was checking the mail, grilling, or doing something else... Starts around 8min mark.
FAI fuel, also known as ‘straight fuel’ is simply methanol and oil. The normal ratio is 80% methanol and 20% oil. I use castor oil in my mix. I have an entire playlist titled The FAI Experiment where I show many engines running on FAI. Nitro is not a requirement for running glow engines. I am on a friends land shooting this video. She is in the garden.
@@dmrcflyr2 gotcha... I made some recently and thought it was FAI since it was no nitro with a different blend of the oil (synthetic and castor)... But I guess I just made my own mix of some plain old 0% glow fuel and not true FAI
Would prefer to see Morgan 15% Omega used as a fuel because it is so popular. It ran so much better on the first video with Cool Power. Since you are doing reviews and please don't take offense I would think you would always use the same type of fuel or don't do review until you can get it. IMHO. For my Heli's I use VP PowerMaster 30% and I like the extra oil content it has for protection.
First of all I am not doing reviews. You do not seem to be a subscriber so your suggestions, after the fact, have even less weight for me. Unless you are willing to contribute to the channel and/or provide the materials you desire to see your suggestions are pointless. As I always do, I will do my runs with the fuels, and props I have on hand or choose to use.
my first time seeing one on a bench running. good job
That engine was the unobtainium dream engine of the day.
That thing sounds absolutely beautiful, I could listen to it idling all day 😍

Hi David, grest looking engine and runs well too. 😉
What a nice running engine......

Hose is actually a very good idea.. 💡
Better than a wooden stick
7.720 RPM for a 14x6 isn't bad at all. That's a lot of prop.
ESPECIALLY with 0 nitro... 👌
I thought the Fitzpatrick engine was aimed at the FAI pattern crowd...Interesting RPM figures...
I have no idea what theirr intended usage was for this engine.

I would love to feature that engine on the channel. Email me.

I didn’t touch the engine nor did i have the means to measure temperature. So i cannot say

That is what I said above. FAI is methanol and oil only, no nitro.
