I would have loved to have seen MM more serious big roles like this but as a leading lady or co-star.
I think she would have done very well as Eve in All About Eve. She was young and it would have made more sense. They could have died her hair to a light brown for the role, then after Eve became a star put MM back blonde for the awards scene.

she was blonde as a kid and a light brown. Elizabeth Taylor was the Brunette and MM said they made her lighter and lighter to white. The use a teeny paintbrush and I've never seen regrowth- she had to spend hours in the chair for hair n make up. Love her.

In those days they all started somewhere and were groomed by the studios much as they showed promise . Alan Hale JR here later the skipper Gilligans Island . It is great to see the beginning films and appearances they all first did before some of them becoming the fav huge world stars . Have two early silent films with a early appearances Valentino before he really became Valentino . Paul Newman’s first screen appearance in horrendous costuming and role , The Silver Chalice with Virginia Mayo . And a early Sean Connery role with hair and Lana Turner .

Gilligan's Island was not the height of Hale's career. He appeared in many many movies in the 1940s and 1950s. One of his best roles (in my opinion) was as a merchant marine in the North Atlantic with Humphrey Bogart. Good war film based on the challenges of lend/lease and keeping the allies supplied during World War Two.

I was ready to turn off this movie at about the 30 minute mark. I thought it was headed in the direction of being a diatribe on the supposed merits of communism. I'm glad I returned to view the remainder of the film the next day. Especially noteworthy was the scene in which Donald Crisp as head of McFarland Manufacturing tries to explain to Jeffrey Lynn the benefits the for profit system accrues to virtually all segments of society. It would have been very surprising to see a film espousing leftist propaganda coming from MGM with Louis B. Mayer, a staunch anticommunist as head of production.

While the profit of a person selling a car or typewriter, makes profit by receiving money. Which allows this person to invest in, or buy anything, that causes this person making more profit with it. And would always be better off than the customer, money-wise. After all, who pays taxes?

I love the old flicks and expected this to be good. It started out good. Then the hero, the new young editor of the paper, sez, "We need a good crusade to increase circulation!" and it's not a minor point. It's plot central. That's what the writer of this sad commentary believed. When the hero finds his first crusade, his first headline is, "Business Profits Too High!" I was stunned. Communism had insinuated itself this deeply into our fabric. What did the young Commie think business did with those profits he excoriated? The real answer is they built another factory and hired two hundred more people. They paid dividends to their investors, most of whom were retirees living on pensions. The worst thing about this is it's Obama's screed, too. He grew up hating people who had money, when he was dipping ice cream at Baskin Robbins. Both his parents were communists. His 'uncle,' the guy who took him under his wind because he didn't have a father around was a revolutionary, full of hatred and dogma. The problem is what results from the stupidity. In the first quarter of 2014, Americas economy Shrunk. That's the result.

However, your comments don't include an alternative to socialism and capitalism, both are based on irrational selfishness and both result in an ultra greedy selfish clan and the vast majority of wage slaves working to pay for the property of the greedy few. How long has it been since you heard the words anti-trust, small business and family business, etc.. The alternative was laid out by G.K. Chesterton and other very wise rational selfish people truly interested in advancing standards of living for all human beings, not just a well connected few. Shalom...

@@PizzaFLIX The music soundtrack at the beginning and the end have been cut and replaced with some sort of dubbed in piano score. I'm guessing (don't know for sure) that because it was made by General Motors Film department (released by MGM) some of the music had some sort of copyright limitations that lingered longer than the time it fell into the public domain. I'm not saying all the soundtrack, just the beginning and ending. This is no reflection on PizzaFlix, which we all love and are thankful for but rather just an observation on how silly and sometimes vague some copyright stipulations can be. Over the years I've come across PD episodes of Bonanza and The Beverly Hillbillies where the opening music sountrack has been replaced probably because while some shows have fallen into the public domain the theme songs may still be renewed and therefore royalties may need to be paid out.
