Thanks CCC for that wonderful coverage! Elizabeth Taylor was so beautiful and talented. Her friendship with Michael Jackson and her support for people victim with HIV-AIDS were amazing.❤
No, her eyes were BLUE. People who worked with her said they were a deep shade of blue, but looked violet when wearing certain colors. And, she liked to do her own eye makeup and it was the way she did her eye makeup with colors that made them look more violet than blue. She was beautiful, no doubt, but her eyes WERE blue.
How bittersweet this is. They always had such passion for one another. They broke each others heart. But loved each other forever in a way that never fades even to the end of time itself.
A friend told me she read in one of her biographies that there wasn't a lot of emotional depth to him. A bit emotionally shallow. It's very challenging on a relationship when one person can't sustain a depth and evolving on a personal level nor as a couple. I tried having a relationship with my parents for decades with always dead ends because they had no emotional depth.
@@ZFern9390 He had great emotional depth. He was a great Shakespearean actor and was fantastic in reading great poetry. You can't do that without emotional depth.
And he pissed it all away. Seriously folks. God given talent and he failed to honour it. A disparate life. He sings Camelot like the brilliant Shakespearean actor he is and he has HIS HANDS IN his POCKETS
...filled with animosity, jealousy, cantankerousness and alcoholism: a Disney happy ending. I'd rather have spent a night with him than her, but that's for the love of poetry and bacchanalia. If she'd been Ava Gardner or Bardot, I'd have more the impression of amorous warmth; but with even the young Taylor I find something steely and unwelcoming in her eyes, as if "bitch" were tattooed across her forehead. Still, they retain a fascination, and I'm only speaking for personal taste, of course.
Elizabeth once said, in an interview, the reason Richard Burton didn't win Best Actor for "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf" was because Hollywood was jealous of his talent.
@@melianna999their relationship was obviously not that superficial. Relationships are very complex and if both people aren't of emotional depth it isn't sustainable.
I don't think the world will see a couple like Burton and Taylor for a couple of centuries more. Both were Iconic actors, and their love was something written in the stars. When you see Taylor looking at him, she seems in awe of him. And while Burton and Taylor eventually remarried, its painfully obvious when you read his biography, that he considered his time with Taylor as the best days of his life. I do not think they ever stopped loving eachother.
I know what she meant how “after Richard all the others were really just there to hold my coat”. Nothing could compare to not being with your other half. Tumultuous or otherwise your heart mind and soul don’t understand such minor details. Someone might as well tear you in two and you can try to go on but everything will just be shades of gray because it knew what it was to reach the heights and the depths. It’s transformative. Like a near death experience nothing will ever be the same. It doesn’t always mean a happy ending. In this dimension, at least.
"Night of the Iguana" - is my favorite Richard Burton Film (with Ava Gardner). Elizabeth Taylor is exceptional in everything she ever did. Intervention was good for Taylor (and all of us - as we got to appreciate her even more). I met Elizabeth Taylor (at a Fashion Show). I was a model (during her department store perfume line). She was stunning - even when along in years, and she was very kind.
What a life that woman led!! My goodness!! Charmed and tragic, sad and fun, lavish and trashy at times!! She exemplifies the good and bad of humanity and make believe. :)
So fortunate to have spent my lunch with him when he offered me and a friend to share his table at thr Royal Forresters pub in Bracknell! He was filming in Bracknell at the time! He had beautiful eyes and was extremely gracious and charming! I remember he said to me “what a capacious handbag “
This was a great documentary - short - but great! It revealed information I had not known before. This gave detailed insight to their marriage(s) and what drove them to divorce. I have seen quite a few documentaries, on Elizabeth, Richard and their marriage, that I almost didn't click on this one. I am so glad I did. As a side note; Richard Burton should have won the Best Actor Academy Award for "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf".
Undeniable love in their eyes for each other. Can you just imagine for a coupla minutes, what it would be like to sit down with these two, have a drink or 5, and talk about a simple topic as the weather? Then move on to what Shakespearean theater of let’s say the 17th century was like? I think about it often.🎭

I read somewhere that Mike Todd was her great love, he died in a plane crash......be as it may, Richard was a great actor and is synonym with Liz.... ..The Sandpiper was a lovely romantic movie with them starring together......
Not everyone’s love can be a fairy tale but two different kinds of people do fall in love. I hate how people say stop “romanticizing their love”. Their love was whatever they felt and did and it’s in the past but if someone would just read about their relationship you would know the truth. Substance abuse and infidelity would ruin any relationship.
The fact that they divorced twice limits how much we can consider them "soulmates". It's hardly the 73 years of marriage of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip for example
@@oliverford5367 Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were together stuck by royal duties... They never divorced because they could not without causing scandals 😂😂😂 Elizabeth and Richard were free of any duty
Liz finally came into her own, and in later life she survived cancer, seemed comfortable in a larger body, shaved her head and allowed her hair to go grey. She finally seemed happy as herself, and I greatly admire her for that. How difficult it must be to be such a beauty icon growing older.
@Justified Freely Right after her brain tumor surgery while her hair was growing out. That's when we learned her hair was really white and she had been dying it for years. Her dad was prematurely gray so, I'd say, she took after him. I was disappointed that she didn't just leave her hair gray/white. It was okay like that.
Richard Burton was on a hot streak in the 1960 s. Beckett ,Night Of The Iguana,The Spy Who Came In From The Cold,Virginia Woolf,Anne of a Thousand Days even films which most critics would call average The Sandpiper, and The VIPs Richard always stood out!!If my memory serves Richard got into Oxford when he was only 15!!! There was a quota on Welshman at Oxford so his mentor /professor changed his name from Jenkins to Burton. It’s hard to believe but English was Richards second language!!! Richard also was a Bombadeer in the RAF during the Second World War. When asked by a journalist what he learned in the RAF Richard replied”Fear”!!!! To his credit he was able to quit drinking. But could never quit those damn ciggies. When he died Richard Harris was here in San Diego in a revival of Camelot. Harris the Irishman and Burton the Welshman were great pals and partners in nocturnal debauchery. When Harris was ambushed by a local TV crew here in San Diego and asked if he had a comment about the death of Richard Burton he replied” he’s not dead he’ll never be dead to me”. Nor to his thousands of friends and millions of fans from San Diego to New York to London and Cardiff to Melbourne and Perth to Sough Africa and literally all over the world.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt of Golden Era. Orginal powerfull couple. The same thing with Vivien Leigh and Laurence Oliver who were the first powerfull couple in Hollywood history.
Another excellent video. The narrator, biographers and behind-the-scenes people are always so well-suited to telling the subjects' love stories. And of course the photographs and clips are wonderful. Elizabeth and Richard were truly an iconic couple. I vaguely remember the start of their love story (I was very young). They were always in the Press, on TV, or at the movies. I never realized, until this doc how much they were a part of my life! Even though they are both gone, their love is still felt. Speaking of their love story, I saw Debbie Reynolds dancing like a bullfighter on the cover of "Life" (at least that's how I remember it). My mother had to explain divorce and why the Pope was so mad at them. As much as I love your series of iconic lovers, I think you glossed over Eddie's "betrayal" of his family and Elizabeth's responsibility in it; you mentioned Richard's distress in leaving Sybil & his daughter. Just sayin'🤗
And it was well written in Bacall’s autobiography that Bogart was an alcoholic. She cared deeply for him but he never grew past the alcoholic need and died, leaving her a widow at age thirty-two with two children. An unnecessary loss.
Ron Berkley was Richard Burtons makeup man for 20 years. Berkley is a very old name and title, Richard was always tickled that he, a poor boy from a coal mining family in poverty, ended up with a practically royal employee from one of the oldest families in England....
What a shame they never had children together....they would probably have looked stunning......I used to live near his sister Cissie in Wales.....she was lovely. and so proud of him.......she still lived in the bungalow he bought her...Such talent chucked away down the neck of a bottle.....
@@melisagalvalizi6982 It was when Elizabeth was with Eddie Fisher that they had Maria. I don't think the adoption went through with Eddie, but Richard adopted her with Elizabeth. She needed so many operations, but Richard said that she was doing very well at the time of his book.

He saw all of her films and asked her questions about them. She told him everything she could. When he let her off, she thanked him and give him the best tip he ever had in his life. Agree. If they would've had a son together he would've been gorgeous if he had her dark hair and his radiant green eyes. Burton was ultra masculine and she was ultra feminine. There has never been actor talented enough to play him in a biopic. MAYBE Daniel Craig.
from what i've read, they were both alcoholics and they had to split up because they made each other worse. in burton's diaries he said he would try to quit and taylor would say, "Have a drink, you're so dull when you're sober." Pretty toxic situation.
Ultimately, maybe a power struggle that can only be lost when addiction is involved. They had the best of love and the worst; they lived it in all the glory and pain. And now they both belong to the ages, as shall we all eventually.
Ew! tasteless as hell when Burton told everyone the next day that he " f@$#&d her in the back of his Cadillac last night" Jesus! It was messed up out of the gate!
I never knew that Burton was not initially attracted to Elizabeth! Also that he never thought much of her acting and said she was stone faced! Wow just shows how things can change.
I well remember the "Liz and Dick" days - they were the ultimate beautiful couple and were so glamorous when they were together. The tabloids had a field day with arguably the most famous couple in the world. Everyone wanted to know more about them. I wish that they could have stayed together until his death. And I'm sure that Elizabeth Taylor took that last loving letter from him with her when she died.
Theirs was a larger than life relationship and they wanted it to be even larger in their own individual ways. They wanted it all- whatever, however difficult it made them feel for one another. They were two passions that electrified each other when in contact yet were unable to keep themselves in control for such a word had no meaning and didn't exist for them.Being actors was a means to an end of achieving all that they'd set themselves up for.Two great personalities that were caught up in a maelstrom till they spent themselves.

There will never be another Hollywood love story like this one. I hope they found each other on the other side ❤❤
I think it was not love. More like opssesion.
The real Hollywood love story was Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward
@@kathleengill994I agree
Thanks CCC for that wonderful coverage! Elizabeth Taylor was so beautiful and talented. Her friendship with Michael Jackson and her support for people victim with HIV-AIDS were amazing.❤
The most beautiful women ever. Her eyes were deep lavender. I saw her as she was coming out of Halston in NY.
Elizabeth Taylor was and will be definitely the most beautiful woman the world ever known as far as I'm concerned.
Vivienne Leigh was more beautiful. So was Ava Gardner. JMHO
Yes she was the most beautiful woman in the world God bless her soul ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹

@@vogelfrau2425 The two actress are very different type. I love Audrey Hepburn. She is so special!
Vivien Leigh?
How bittersweet this is. They always had such passion for one another. They broke each others heart. But loved each other forever in a way that never fades even to the end of time itself.
he broke her heart by cheating constantly, drinking, etc. He killed the mariage.
@@ZFern9390 I think he did have emotional depths AND demons.

@@ZFern9390 He had great emotional depth. He was a great Shakespearean actor and was fantastic in reading great poetry. You can't do that without emotional depth.
Richard Burton deserved an award every stage or movie he was in!
Especially Virginia Woolf. It's a tragedy that he didn't win for that.
Welshman always atractjve
And he pissed it all away. Seriously folks. God given talent and he failed to honour it. A disparate life.

They were twin souls, destined to be together forever. I know EXACTLY the kind of love they experienced.
Valeria P. - Except it didn't last forever dear. Cheaters rarely last.
...filled with animosity, jealousy, cantankerousness and alcoholism: a Disney happy ending.
Everyone feels that way in the infatuation phase.

I think The Sandpiper was cast so well with these two. Love her
Burton should have received an Oscar either for Who's Afraid of VW or Night of the Iguana or perhaps both
Loved Night of the Iguana. Also, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold
At one time he had more Oscar noms without ever winning.
Elizabeth once said, in an interview, the reason Richard Burton didn't win Best Actor for "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf" was because Hollywood was jealous of his talent.
His first nom, I think, was for My Cousin Rachel.

I believe these two were the true love of each other’s lives. But both were difficult to live with so it did not last.
Lust doesn't last.
Thank you Captain Obvious.
I do not think they ever stopped loving eachother.
written in the ...lust.
Now they know ..if was it worth it.
They were the most passionate couple on the planet. They were truly in love! What a great couple! They are my favorite actor and actress of all time!
he married those women because he needed a nurse but he wanted to go back with elizabeth, unfirtunately he hurt her a lot
I didn’t think much of either of them 🤷♀️
Then why did they divorce?
Were her eyes really violet?
@@RH-td7vc Yes, a director who I met on a trip and knew her said it was true. Her eyes were violet.
Handsome man Merveilleux couple
He did oratory not acting. But, yes, in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf he was superb.
Especially with him. He seemed like an excellent conversationalist.
This is an excellent film. I only wish it was longer. Engrossing!! 👏👏👏

Dos almas pasionales y tormentosas
A great love story, one that will be told and retold. There has been nothing in this generation to equal it.
With celebrities you mean? People fall in love lime that all the time, we just don't know their stories...
I read somewhere that Mike Todd was her great love, he died in a plane crash......be as it may, Richard was a great actor and is synonym with Liz.... ..The Sandpiper was a lovely romantic movie with them starring together......
Elizabeth Taylor was a real beauty...
I've always thought...
These two were soul mates what a love they are United again
Where? Hell?
There's 1,000 reasons why this was a bad idea. But you can feel the chemistry even now.
She had skin cancer, basal cell. I've had it, wouldn't exactly call myself a survivor.
She was in a wheelchair for most of her life. That's what I heard.

Well Leigh and Olivier lasted 20 years, longer
Honestly, if Vivian Leigh had not had her mental problems, she and Olivier would have lasted, I believe...
Pitt and Jolie...meh.
The comparison of Richard burton with brad pitt made me giggle
Burton and Taylor the best

She" loved" seven. Many of them were someone else's husbands. Poor soul of her.

I am so glad I watched this. I usually am more of a history buff, but this was well done. Thank you.
That was really intriguing.
Thanks.
Now this is a “power couple”! I’d marry him twice too!
Definitely. He was all man. 😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥

Great documentary!!❤
Richard Burton was very handsome when he was young. Wow!
The original Hollywood power couple.
There was a certain aristocracy in Hollywood back in the day. It's greatly missed by me today.
They weren't the only ones that couldn't get enough of each other, I think of Lauren Becall and Bogart.
And it was well written in Bacall’s autobiography that Bogart was an alcoholic. She cared deeply for him but he never grew past the alcoholic need and died, leaving her a widow at age thirty-two with two children. An unnecessary loss.
Humble beginning from South Wales to global superstar
Ron Berkley was Richard Burtons makeup man for 20 years. Berkley is a very old name and title, Richard was always tickled that he, a poor boy from a coal mining family in poverty, ended up with a practically royal employee from one of the oldest families in England....
What a shame they never had children together....they would probably have looked stunning......I used to live near his sister Cissie in Wales.....she was lovely. and so proud of him.......she still lived in the bungalow he bought her...Such talent chucked away down the neck of a bottle.....
they adopted a girl
@@melisagalvalizi6982 It was when Elizabeth was with Eddie Fisher that they had Maria. I don't think the adoption went through with Eddie, but Richard adopted her with Elizabeth. She needed so many operations, but Richard said that she was doing very well at the time of his book.
How interesting! Richard was a theatrical actor and she was a cinema actress! He didn't catch her talents at first, but the camera picked them up! 😀
Elizabeth was not unsure of herself, she knew damm well who she was married to.
Exactly. She didn't trust him.
I knew a Taxi driver who picked up Elisabeth Taylor in Stuttgart Germany back in the 70s at the airport. She was with another female. She was very nice and cordial.
He saw all of her films and asked her questions about them. She told him everything she could. When he let her off, she thanked him and give him the best tip he ever had in his life.
He said American celebrities tip good but not as good as that. German celebrities give a better than average tip, but nothing like the Americans celebs.

Amazing that Zev Bruffman saved Elizabeth Taylor! NEVER heard that before!
it wasn't exactly how he told it. Her family and friends gathered and intervened.
Just the most amazing looking couple.
Agree. If they would've had a son together he would've been gorgeous if he had her dark hair and his radiant green eyes. Burton was ultra masculine and she was ultra feminine. There has never been actor talented enough to play him in a biopic. MAYBE Daniel Craig.
J'ai découvert il y a peu ce duo dans le film...le chevalier des sables. Quel film magnifique!
from what i've read, they were both alcoholics and they had to split up because they made each other worse. in burton's diaries he said he would try to quit and taylor would say, "Have a drink, you're so dull when you're sober." Pretty toxic situation.
They both were not very intelligent. Good match.
@@melianna999 not true. He had an almost genius level IQ. Get your facts straight.
That's true. He wanted to quit but she made it hard for him. 😊

Mike Todd was the love of her life. If he hadn’t died, the Burton affair never would have happened. Eddie Fisher was no Mike Todd.
Eddie Fisher was a huge mistake.
I never knew that Burton was not initially attracted to Elizabeth! Also that he never thought much of her acting and said she was stone faced! Wow just shows how things can change.
That's not exactly true. He thought she was sexy from the beginning.
he had a huge ego, she was a great film actress, he wasn't
They were a force to be reckon with. I feel a bit sad for Sybil.
It's sad but Sybil would go through this one way or another because he never intended to be faithful
What a love affair. Elisabeth and Richard created platforms for lifestyles we learned to enjoy.
RIP Liz & Richard.🙏
Pareja perfecta, íconos del amor. Talentosos y bellos.
So she can SEE now how much was it worth it.
Why would you wish anything about their relationship? You wanted them to stay together FOR WHAT EFFING REASON? For YOU?
Theirs was a larger than life relationship and they wanted it to be even larger in their own individual ways. They wanted it all- whatever, however difficult it made them feel for one another. They were two passions that electrified each other when in contact yet were unable to keep themselves in control for such a word had no meaning and didn't exist for them.Being actors was a means to an end of achieving all that they'd set themselves up for.Two great personalities that were caught up in a maelstrom till they spent themselves.
