    This is flight 11 of 13 from my recent journey around the world. In September/October, I set out to circumnavigating the Earth, and after 9 days, 8 airlines, 13 flights, and over 24,000 miles, I eventually landed back in Kansas City after visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Doha, London, Dublin, Munich and Newark. Over the next 4 weeks I'll be posting these flights in order, so you too can take this incredible journey with me! If the video doesn't have this bit at the top of the description, and in the pinned comment, it is not part of the around the world flights.

    Would be nice if you added all of the segments into each of the around the world video descriptions. Also, a flight number always includes the code of the airline so in this case it should be LH2517, not just "2517". I find this important just for the sake of documentation, but I guess a lot of people don't care. I do think it matters especially in this case since the aircraft operating the flight differs from the actual flight number and airline it's flying for (Lufthansa).

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Рік тому

      All of the segments are in the description. That’s literally the first thing in each of these descriptions. And then I have each individual segment listed with all the detailed info. I also include the two letter code with the flight number in the title. I list the operator and flight number separately in the description, in this case it’s 4Y2517 as it was operated by Discover Airlines. This was a Lufthansa codeshare operated by Discover. I guess I’m confused, because everything you’ve asked for, is provided in multiple places and I provide way WAY more info in my titles, descriptions, and chapters, than anyone else on UA-cam.

    • @Games-ei1qc
      @Games-ei1qc Рік тому

      @@sla31 My bad on the flight number one, I did not notice it was in the title as well. I am not sure why you opt to use only the number in the description though. But shouldn't it still be a LH code? Flightradar24, Munich Airport and even Lufthansa and Discover's own reservations show the flights operated by Discover Airlines as LHxxxx. They also use a Lufthansa callsign on ATC as well. I believe Discover have their own flights to holiday destinations using the 4Y code and callsigns but technically even if this one's a codeshare, one should use the LH flight number as I believe that's the "correct" one. Or did your ticket show it as 4Y2517? Because I am not an expert on these myself and I'm curious (always found these different operators a bit confusing). And I know, I'm just nitpicking but I can't help it haha!
      And what I meant with the description thing, I did not phrase it clearly enough. I did not mean the particular segments in each video, I think they are called chapters. What I meant were the around the world flights, what you call "Segment 1 MCI-SFO" and so on. Check out all of the 10 other videos listed in this video's description. Those videos only have the previous segments of the journey so far, but none of the future ones. I have just finished watching Segment 1 MCI-SFO and I would have liked to easily hop to the second one straight from the description but there was no link to the second one. I presume that's simply because the upcoming SFO-LAX segment wasn't public yet at the time of publishing the first one, but what I'm trying to say is when you eventually have all 13 flights public, a list of the entire journey would be updated into all those 13 video descriptions and not just the ones that have been flown so far. That way especially a new viewer wanting to go through that trip chronologically can easily get a glimpse of the entire journey, which airports were flown to, what's coming next etc. just by looking at the description and navigating to the videos from there. Just trying to bring my perspective since I think I'm going to watch all of it.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Рік тому

      I opt to only use the number in the description because I break it down even farther than just the airline code and the flight number together. The first two letters/numbers in the flight number is just telling you who is operating the flight. WN2131 is Southwest flight 2131, LH400 is Lufthansa flight 400 etc. I mean, we're splitting hair and getting super technical if we're trying to decide weather 4Y2517 or Discover Airlines 2517 is correct because they are both telling you the exact same thing. I list it as 4Y2517 or WN2131 in the title to save space. Titles are limited to 100 characters and so typing out Southwest Airlines flight 2131 isn't really a great option haha. In the description though, I have 5,000 characters to use, so I simply break it down. I list the operator of the flight in full and then I list the flight number next. So, in effect it's the same thing, I'm just typing it out as Discover Airlines flight 2517. It would be redundant for me to type Aircraft Operator - Discover Airlines and then Flight Number - 4Y2517. Everyone already knows it's Discover Airlines because I just listed that on the line above.
      As for this flight number specifically, I listed it as my ticket showed. When I booked the ticket the itinerary I got from Lufthansa showed 4Y2517 to LH412. But again, we're kind of splitting hair if we're trying to pick one or the other. Just like regional flights in the US. I took yesterday that was AA3855 and MQ3855. It was an Envoy Air operated flight for American Airlines. Both are technically correct. In this scenario the aircraft's livery, crew, and my ticket showed Eurowings Discover. Or at least it all did before they changed their name to Discover Airlines after I bought the ticket haha. So that's how I listed it. They use the callsign of whatever operator is operating the fight. The AA3855 flight above doesn't use American 3855. They use the callsign Envoy 3855. In this case I believe Discover Airlines would do the same. They may be operating as 4Y2517 and LH2517 but they'd almost certainly be using the callsign Ocean 3855 because it is not a Lufthansa plane and crew operating the flight.
      In the end, again, we're kind of splitting hair if we're trying to decide what to call it, it's technically both.
      As for the segments in the description, I see what you were saying now. The reason why they are currently listed that way is because I haven't finished posting the whole trip yet. Once they're all public there is a playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PL6poUgHngiIG6zdCyzDyHCJAe5TeRxU2x.html&si=N_lWiSwDhaXgMZ5F that all 13 will be listed in, in order. I can't link a video that doesn't exist yet haha. That's why I list the full routing in the text portion of the description. "I landed back in Kansas City after visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu, Tokyo, Osaka, Bangkok, Doha, London, Dublin, Munich and Newark." Once they're all posted I'll replace those list of individual links with the link to the full playlist.

      @Games-ei1qc Рік тому

      @@sla31 Thank you for the detailed answer. I see your point of view. I personally think the code is an inherent part of the flight number and therefore, never redundant to mention it. The code is also almost always listed in airport arrival/departure boards, flight tickets and plane spotting videos etc. so that's why I brought it up. I think Americans like to list the "number only" version more often (check out airport websites such as EWR, LAS, SFO for example) and also some plane spotting videos from the US. In Europe you never see the number only, it's always with a code. In American aviation I think it also tends to be clearer and simpler. There's much less airlines and just one big country. Not that much leasing going on (I don't think at least?) Like you said, it's obvious that a flight with a Southwest plane is going to be WN so I can see your reasoning for not adding the code - especially when it's in the title anyway - and that's fine.
      In Europe it's more convoluted. More countries, more airlines, airlines leasing planes all the time. We had Swiss flying with Air Baltic planes, BA and Eurowings Discover flying Finnair planes. They didn't use Air Baltic or Finnair flight numbers or callsigns on those flights, instead it was SWR, BAW and OCN and their respective IATA codes all the way. The plane was just not theirs. It's kind of the same thing here, though Discover is owned by Lufthansa and not a lease. If you check the history of this flight on Flightradar24, you can see it shows it as LH2517 / DLH4WR, meaning that they did actually use the DLH callsign "Lufthansa 4WR" on that flight, so even though the plane is Discover, it doesn't mean they will automatically use the Discover callsign. That was just a little correction I wanted to make to what you said. And if your ticket shows 4Y2517 then that obviously can't be wrong - though I do think LH is the "official" code in this case since both DUB and MUC airports themselves use it, plus of course the Lufthansa website reservation. Same with AA and MQ, the "official" code for that flight is AA since it's flying for American, but Envoy is operating the flight, so I guess it's an automatic codeshare?
      It's actually very interesting that you brought that up, because I've always wondered if Envoy and the other regional carriers there ever use their own code? Because I only ever see them use AA / DL / UA since they always operate for the big mainline carriers. But do they ever fly strictly their own flights? Like charter flights or even just positioning flights, would they only use MQ when flying it or are they somehow eternally "tied" to their parent carrier?
      I think that is the difference compared to America where you, like you said, have AA flight number but ENY (Envoy) and other callsigns actually operating it. In Europe it's usually the main airline in both flight numbers and callsigns. Lufthansa itself is very large and convoluted, but Air France for example has their "Hop" regional carrier. They still fly using AF / AFR codes, instead of AF / HOP. Same with KLM and their Cityhopper airline, it's always KL / KLM, not KLC. I think that is the key difference between US and Europe, you don't ever see the regionals flying with mainline callsigns in the US, but in Europe you do.
      And yeah, it's quite technical but I am "a bit" of a geek with this. I like to do some plane spotting myself and mark up all the codes, callsigns, routing etc. what was used for each flight I've captured just for the sake of documentation. It's surprisingly fascinating to me. And I'll check out the playlist, that works just as well.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Рік тому

      @@Games-ei1qc and that may all be true. I definitely don't know all the workings of the European aviation industry like I do here in the US, of which I have years and years of experience. That said, that doesn't change the way I'm going to list the flight info and here's why... Most people do not have any idea of how the airlines operate. Whether that's here or in Europe, or anywhere else. And in this particular case. Even if this flight was using the Lufthansa callsign, do you know how many comments I'd get from people all over the place wanting to know why it's titled "Lufthansa" when the plan says Eurowings Discover, but then the materiel on the plane said Discover Airlines. I'd get 500 comments about that. Whereas if it's the other way around, I get one.
      So here in the US the carriers operating flights for other carriers, regardless of situation, always use their own callsigns. Even Enovy Air, which is a company that is completely owned by American Airlines, still uses the callsign Envoy and the MQ airline code on all their flights. The flights are also listed as AA whatever but they never use the American callsign. But on all those flights I don't list them as Envoy Air, or Mesa Airlines, or GoJet Airlines, or SkyWest Airlines or whatever, because that is not the brand and airline being represented to the passengers. And 99% of the people watching the video, frankly probably could care less if Mesa, or SkyWest, or Envoy is operating the flight. In those situations I list it as American Eagle (Operated by Envoy Air), or Delta Connection (Operated by SkyWest Airlines) etc.
      I do it this way even though "technically" it is Envoy Air - MQ2448, or SkyWest - OO3434, because again, very few people watching will actually understand the way it's all really structured and listing the flight as Envoy Air (Operating as American Eagle) not only would get WAY less views, but it would just confuse people.
      The only exception is when I fly on their in house colored aircraft. Most of the US regionals have "house" colors. Aircraft that they actually have painted in their own livery. And when I fly on one of those, I will title the video SkyWest Airlines - OO343 and then in the description I'll list it as SkyWest Airlines (Operating as Delta Connection). Because again, that's what people see. They see the plane sitting there in Delta Connection colors, or SkyWest Colors.
      In this situation, the way you are laying it out, it's kind of the opposite, right? You have a Discover Airlines plane and crew (Operating as Lufthansa). But like like the American regional examples, that's not what the person watching the video sees. They see a Eurowings Discover plane, with Discover Airlines branding and onboard material. So, I believe you as someone who clearly knows more about the way things operate in Europe that this was operated as a Lufthansa flight. But that still doesn't change what people see, and just like with the American regionals when I list them as American Eagle, or Delta Connection. If I were to list this flight as a Lufthansa flight, I'd get 500 comments asking what the deal is. So, if I change anything it would be that I add (Operating as Lufthansa) to the operator section of the description.
      I hope that all makes sense haha.
