Every time I buy a pistol I watch your review video first, 380 Thunder, PX4 storm, 92 fs, XDs 45. Its 80% of my final decision . Thanks for the great videos ...
I really enjoy my XDs, your the reason I bought one. When I filled out the warranty information it asked what made me buy it, I put down "Hickock45". Thanks for doing your videos.. Really enjoy them.700rds with no problems.
I looked at the XDs as a possible carry gun, but dismissed it after holding one in my hand; I thought it was too light to be able to shoot well. After watching these two videos, i went back and had another look. Three of the gun store employees had bought one, said the recoil was minimal for a .45 acp. Made the purchase and I love it. Accurate, easy to shoot. recoil much less than expected. No feed and eject trbls with Ball, SWC or JHP. Two Barrels Up on XDs.
There's good and bad points to the mag disconnect safety! I personally love it, here's why... If an assailant is close enough to charge you before you can get off a shot or if he's pumped up on drugs and the shots didn't phase him, and he tries to wrestle you gun away from you, then you simply eject the magazine and render the gun inoperable! Then you can use that moment to fight back, flee, etc. I really like safety features like this and other features like safety/decocker switches!
I love my Springfied XD .40, not quite a 45acp but i love the way it shoots, Im with you on the sandpaper grips on it, they make it feel more like a part of your hand than a rubber grip would do. Thanks for the vids and the information.
Love watching your videos, Hickok. Awesome material you cover and your just a natural. You give me a lot of insight on how to use my weapons properly and what ammo to purchase. Honestly saves me alot of time and money. Your the best Hickok, and John!
I just picked up an XDs thanks largely to Hickok45's videos. Even though it was heavier and larger in the pocket than the 9mm Nano and the .380 BodyGuard, the stopping power of a .45 can't be beat. It came with a nice case, 2 mags, slimmer backstrap piece, trigger lock, couple of extra optic front sights (red and yellow), 2 mag belt holder and a factory holster. I need to order the AL pocket holster and the larger mag & i'm done.
Hey Hickock45. Thanks for this video, made my decision solid on what im going to carry with me. Just want to say that I love your videos and watch them daily. I am a U.S. Marine Infantryman with 1/9 on Camp Lejeune, NC. Originally from Cleveland, TN. Big fan, and love what you do!
The XDs is only available in .45 ACP with a 3.3 inch barrel with a single stack magazine (5 rounds standard). The XDm is available with 3 different barrel lengths (3.8", 4.5", 5.25") and 3 different calibers (9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP) all with double stack magazines with capacities of 19 (9mm), 16 (40 S&W), and 13 (.45 ACP).
Had my XDS for four months now, 400 flawless rounds. It's my carry pistol now that it's proven itself. I'm a member of the XD forums and it seems that the XDS models with a serial # starting after XD511 aren't having the problems that the earlier ones did. Great work Greg, as usual, Semper Fi.
To continue . . . If the firearms has been utterly reliable for you, and still is, you just have to assume some weird aberration with the ammo, limp wristing, or a piece of something got in the way. It's usually after shooting several magazines of practice ammo or handloads, and extremely, extremely rare, even then, as I say, unless you have a gun problem. With carry ammo and a clean, lubed, quality pistol, virtually never going to happen.
Really like your videos. Very truthful and informative. I purchased a XDS about 3 yrs ago. Never had an issue with it. In fact it is my EDC. I also carry a Glock 43. Both guns are excellent carry guns year round. I’m a sucker for the big bore though. Thanks for the great videos.
Was having trouble with WWB, but fired remmington UMC, hornady 165 and 180 grain hollow points w/o a hitch. Great little gun, but kicks like a mule on PCP.
picked mine up last night.. I enjoyed firing it at a range when I rented it and just had to get one ..great for all types of situations from hunting to home defense.
I have one of the early ones. The trigger on mine was horrible, but after a couple thousand rounds has gotten consistent but still stiff. I have had to send it in twice to have the magazine release fixed. It wouldn't re center itself and catch a second magazine. Good customer service and they sent me a free magazine each time I've returned it.
Shot the XDS at the range the other day, among about 6 other guns of all makes, sizes, and calibers. A couple months until my 21st birthday and I think I'm going to treat myself to a little piece of .45 cal furniture from the fine folks at Springfield Armory. Great video as always.
I have a para warthog and its a sweet little gun. Its the alloy version so its pretty lite and that makes it bite more than a fullsize 1911. It conceals great holds 10+1 and shoots very accurate with a nice trigger. I love mine!
I have tried several IWB holsters for the XDs, and I highly recommend the Crossbreed MiniTuck. A very subjective topic, I know - but I have a video review of it that I did if you're interested.
Got my XDs at a Show in Louisville, Kentucky this summer and have loved it ever since! Sweet shooter despite the size and it disappears in your pocket so long as you aren't wearing skinny jeans... And it's a .45 too!!! My only problem with it when I got it was that there were no dedicated holsters for it, so I had to buy a DeSantis (which works just fine). Glad to see Alabama has finally come out with one!
These lil gems are hard to get here, every time an LGS gets em, they sell within a day or two. May hafta camp out at they doorsteps. Nice job sir. MIKE
This is the only Hickok45 video that stressed me out. Watching the rain bead up on the beautiful blued colt 1911 had me saying "John put the camera on a tripod and wipe the colt down and get it out of the rain!!" Just kidding, I am an old guy from the era when blue steel and wood were the primo elements of a fine gun. However I'm not allergic to plastic and this video is one of the best selling points of polymer frames. Anyway, great video. That single stack XD looks great.
Thank you again for all your work with these vids Hickok, John too. Thanks to you, Talon Grips has gotten two more customers (my Lieutenant and myself) for XDs rubber grips!
The big variance in FPS could be a weak spring or locking design flaw, causing the breech to open up prematurely. I would be interested to see other XDs owners test this out.
I have only managed to get my hands on one of these. That being said, it felt great as a pocket carry option. I know many people say that a Glock is too fat, too heavy, or maybe too bulky to carry but I carry my Glock 30 quite often in a IWB holster.
i love my white hat holsters, best money i ever spent. plus when i ordered two holster shells for my xd9 subcompact and my xd45 compact, he emailed me and said i really only needed one shell, it would fit both. so i changed one shell to fit my sw j frame. it's grreat to only have to break in one holster and be able to carry multiple models.
The barrel tilts down so it will unlock from the slide after bullet exit. This is a Locked Breach action, that's why we all worship John Mosses Browning. There's also a Blow Back action commonality used on 22's. Those will have a fixed barrel and the recoil of the casing will operate the slide or bolt in a rifle.
Great video, I have had my XDS for 4 weeks now, 800 rounds including mixtures 185 grain, 230 grain FMJ and Rem 185gr HP Golden Saber, not 1 miss fire. Not one issue, hit where I put the sites, my SIg P250 carry 9MM kits more than the XDS.
I am super happy with mine... although I think Springfield cheaped out a bit with no 7 rounder standard... and the xtra backstrap should have been bigger, not smaller... very minor stuff, tho, this is a huge winner, IMO... 200 through, no problems... very accurate and recoil is VERY mild with FMJ, with hi octane stuff, who cares? I LOVE it!! Thanks for the great vids... ever handle a Wilson Combat ADP Poly 9mm? Just got one, feels great in the hand...
I picked up one today. A while back I got a GLOCK 27 with a LWS 9 MM barrel and enjoyed the 9 more than the 40s. Today I went to a gun show and traded my 27 plus extra mag and LWS barrel and $50 for a new XDS 45. Haven't shot it yet but love the feel. I have another show about this time next month and plan on taking a nice Baretta 84 and see what I can get for it. The price of the guns is coming down...but not the ammo. May try to pick up a little 22 to practice with...
Love mine, never had a jam and very conformable for concealed carry. Have a mag release extension, trigger spring kit, and grip extension on the way to see what I can do to improve it
Hey hickok45. Just back from my idaho elk hunt. Got a nice bull btw. And i picked up my first handguns during my trip. I got the xdm 45 competition. And i picked up a smith & wesson 329pd air-lite .44 mag. And i am quite happy
I have had mixed results slingshotting the XDs slide. It has to be released quickly to work. I found locking the slide back and using the slide release works without any problems. This is the same think Kahr recommends with their little guns. Basically, the slide works best when you do not slow it down with your hand.
Thanks for sharing. I was under the impression you were straight up Glock, but since you have given a positive review of this XDs and there were no issues loading, provided you have the correct magazine in, I am sold. I was actually going to look at getting a Taurus Slim, but I am thinking the XDs is more reliable than the PT Slim series. I only wish it was a 9mm instead, but I think the .45 is more manageable to shoot anyway, than the 9mm. Thanks for your review.
That's funny the guy at the range today had that exact gun and holster on his hip when shooting his shot gun at the skeet! Open range without a range master, out in the middle of nowhere... Sounds like a certain compound I know of LOL. Another great review and the timing was perfect since I just finished talking with the guy about it vs the M&P's.
By the way, I'll put it in the description, but I sneaked out the chronograph today for a few minutes between rainstorms and took a few shots again with the 5" Colt Government Model and the XDs. The Chronograph seemed to work okay. Four shots from each pistol with some SureFire 230 grain hollowpoints I had: Colt 5" barrel: 4-shot average of 776 FPS XDs with 3.3 barrel: 4-shot average of 712 FPS I'll do some more with this sort of thing when I get a new Chronograph.
I just bought a ProChrono Digital from Competition Electronics. I like it because it has an interface fora laptop and will store the data if needed. It was around $120 for the Chronograph and another $50 for the cable and software.
Nice shooting Hickock45! I love that pistol. I must find me one. Where do you get all your cool little things to shoot at like pigs, the gong and stuff like that? I wish I had my own little spot on some land to shoot like you have also... Someday, someday... Godspeed.
@Spartacus it is always a good idea to remove the factory oil. The oil placed by the factory is used to prevent rust in most cases not actual lubrication. I prefer clp for all my lube weapons wise. Hope this helps.
I have the XDs .45 and my wife has the XD Subcompact 9mm. I carry the XDs, I can not conceal the XD Subcompact very well, due to the double stack magazine. My wife does not carry conceal the XD Subcompact, also due to its size and is actually looking at the Sig P938 for it's size. XDs .45 is a great pistol and perfect size.
That XDs reminds me of a stormy day in early July, hangin' out with a couple of UA-camrs in the middle of nowhere TN. That gun seems to like the rain for some reason.
Uncle purchased this handgun. Nice fit in the hands for me. Would consider taking this over my fathers Barretta 92FS. Of course it took a little while to get it zero'ed in nice and good, but does fairly well in my eyes.
"Im hoping to get one of those nice IWB holsters I like". At that point in the video at least 4 holster makers yelled " get a holster on order for hickok45" I have bought more holsters based on hickok's video's then any other source, and the makers know that. I have a feeling you will be getting a few gifts in the mail shortly. ;]
Got my "glock" 40 about 3 months ago...used to have an actual glock 40...didnt like it.. I LOVE my xd40...best carry piece ever!!!3.3 inch barrel...belly gun...500 rounds plus and still going like a boss...no issues...p.s. if you practice real world shooting....um...yeah...wear hearing protection...shooting in a bathroom or small area will make you go blind deaf!!!!
I have seen most of your videos - haven't seen one yet where it was raining. Awesome how it doesn't faze you even with your expensive pieces getting wet. I imagine the lesson here is that as long as you clean your gun after using it there should be no problems. I for one would not want to recreationally shoot in the rain but that is just my personal opinion so far. I do think it would be fun to have a "beater" pistol and rifle.
My father has an early xds .45 and recently picked up the 9mm version, and i found the same thing. The trigger is much better on the later production 9mm xds.
Well if you do some simple Googling/Research you'll find that the PPQ has earned an exempliary status amongst its owners for being extremely reliable, accurate, comfortable in hand and many say it has one of the best stock triggers on a stryker fired handgun. The Gen. 4 is actually what I've shot and the advantage of the PPQ is in its ambidextrious operation, the Glock offers a reversable magazine release, where as the PPQ has full time ambi mag release and ambi slide release (not on Glocks).
I've got the Crossbreed Supertuck IWB for my XDs and it's great. When I got it a month or so ago they were the only company that had IWBs for the XDs as far as I could tell. It came two weeks after I ordered it. I wish I would've gotten the combat cut though. I might have to do a little surgery on it.
Hickok has the stiffest wrists of anyone I have ever seen. He handles the recoil of a .45 better than most handle the recoil of a .22 My 9mm XD-M [full-frame and compact] are fun to shoot, eats all brands of ammo I put in it, and is nicely accurate outa the box.
Cool vid again. I have a request. Put mento's in the 2 litres before you shoot them, it should be quite cool when you shoot them. You have to use an iron screw and a magnet to keep the mentos in the cap when you screw the cap on.
Hopefully n82 will make one for it. Ii picked up one of the n82 professional IWB holster for my springfield XD .45. The thing is great - retention system is reliable and easy to operate. Extremely comfortable - Almost forget it is there. Slightly expensive (79$ I think) but well worth it.
Is there a difference in trigger pull after having the handgun sent in for the safety recall ? An XDs chapter 3 video would be a nice way to answer this. thanks.
Every time I buy a pistol I watch your review video first, 380 Thunder, PX4 storm, 92 fs, XDs 45. Its 80% of my final decision . Thanks for the great videos ...
Me too, i just purchased a XDs 45, Hickok hasn't let me down yet !
Me three
Same!
I do EXACTLY the very same thing. Hickok has become my most trusted gun guy out there. Thank you!
I really enjoy my XDs, your the reason I bought one. When I filled out the warranty information it asked what made me buy it, I put down "Hickock45". Thanks for doing your videos.. Really enjoy them.700rds with no problems.
It's fun to see that little pistol doing the work of a bigger pistol. You make shooting small targets look so easy.
This video is strangely relaxing, especially with the rain. It's one of my favorites and have watched it several times.
I looked at the XDs as a possible carry gun, but dismissed it after holding one in my hand; I thought it was too light to be able to shoot well. I purchased this great CC weapon about 9 months ago. I love it. Your videos just confirm I made a good choice.
Glad to finally see a chapter 2 for the XDS! Thank you for the great videos Hickok. Keep life good!
I love my Springfied XD .40, not quite a 45acp but i love the way it shoots, Im with you on the sandpaper grips on it, they make it feel more like a part of your hand than a rubber grip would do. Thanks for the vids and the information.
One has to wonder, "Who on earth would dislike a Hickok45 video?" Great videos Hickok, keep the lead flying!!
He never fails to impress me with every damn shot. Remarkable Marksmanship !
bought my first gun based on this review. Thank you! XDs 45
I received mine from my dealer from the first shipment from Davidson's and I have been in love ever since! Absolutely the perfect .45acp carry gun.
Thanks hickok45 for the review. Your review has helped me become a proud owner of a new XDs.
The XDs is only available in .45 ACP with a 3.3 inch barrel with a single stack magazine (5 rounds standard). With the rain in the background, and Hickock's cool demeanor, I felt like I was watching an old Vietnam war movie.
Also I'd like to say to the camera person, you are doing a very good job!
To continue . . . If the firearms has been utterly reliable for you, and still is, you just have to assume some weird aberration with the ammo, limp wristing, or a piece of something got in the way. Hickok I appreciate all of your videos, SO much help I've probably watched 50 of them. Thank you so much for your help and information!
"Let's see if we have anymore ammo" dude I know you got some more ammo lol. Great video
Aside from the xds being an outstanding firearm, thank you for continuing to record in the rain!:) Take care
Was having trouble with WWB, but fired remmington UMC, hornady 165 and 180 grain hollow points w/o a hitch. Great little gun, but kicks like a mule on PCP.
Shooting in the rain is as relaxing as a nice walk in the woods on a fall morning
picked mine up last night..
The ants must love your shooting range with all the 2 liters you shoot! Love the show, keep up the great work!!
Shot the XDS at the range the other day, among about 6 other guns of all makes, sizes, and calibers. A couple months until my 21st birthday and I think I'm going to treat myself to a little piece of .45 cal furniture from the fine folks at Springfield Armory. Great video as always.
Just reserved mine yesterday. Rented the CDs at the range and loved it. This will be my primary concealed carry gun
I like that pistol. It looks like it would be easy to control for being a large caliber in a small package.
I don't buy a gun until hickok45 signs off on it.....getting xds today
You guys are warriors. Shooting in the rain and the lens stays dry, nice job as usual!
I love the sound of the rain in this video. Ok really I just love the sound of gun fire in the morning. Great video.
These videos are by far the best, informative, entertaining and professional. I wish I was your neighbor, I would shoot every day with you. Thanks
These lil gems are hard to get here, every time an LGS gets em, they sell within a day or two. May hafta camp out at they doorsteps. Nice job sir. MIKE
Hands down the best no BS gun reviewer on youtube!
Thanks for the videos Hickok. Just picked up my XD 40. service model yesterday. Cant wait to get out to the range and put a few rounds through it.
Hickok's gotten so good at talking to the camera I feel like I'm actually having a conversation with the guy.
Great demonstration on the Springfield XD45
Bought my xds because of this review. Thanks!
Probably will when I get them back. I sure hope the .45 trigger is more crisp; it was not nearly as good as the 9mm XDs trigger.
This is the only Hickok45 video that stressed me out. Watching the rain bead up on the beautiful blued colt 1911 had me saying "John put the camera on a tripod and wipe the colt down and get it out of the rain!!" However I'm not allergic to plastic and this video is one of the best selling points of polymer frames. Anyway, great video. That single stack XD looks great.
L-O-V-E my XDS. The perfect combo- Big Punch... Little package.
Hickok45, thanks for all the great videos!
I have this as my CCW. It is great as a pocket carry. Very light and you almost forget your carrying. Pretty great for a 45.
I have this pistol already but I was thinking about switching to the glock 26. After this video I think I’m going to stay with my xds. Thanks
When he walks down toward the targets, at the end of the video, it sounds like he's knee deep in brass. Love it.
I've owned quite a few pistals and the XD series are one of my personal favorites! Great weapons! Nice video....
Hickok, you never seem to let your viewers down! Awesome video bro!
I have only managed to get my hands on one of these. That being said, it felt great as a pocket carry option. I know many people say that a Glock is too fat, too heavy, or maybe too bulky to carry but I carry my Glock 30 quite often in a IWB holster.
Probably the first time I have seen it rain in a video, I like it.

I have another show about this time next month and plan on taking a nice Baretta 84 and see what I can get for it. The price of the guns is coming down...but not the ammo. May try to pick up a little 22 to practice with...
Got mine back from the recall zero issues. Had zero issues other than the cya of sending it in after seeing others fire while loading. No jams
Frogman, best home defence round for this pistal is the Federal Hydro shock hollow points! Very accurate and expand wonderfully...
Love mine, never had a jam and very conformable for concealed carry. Have a mag release extension, trigger spring kit, and grip extension on the way to see what I can do to improve it
completely off topic but i freaking love the sound of rain on the trees here in east tn!!! GO VOLS!
Hey hickok45. Just back from my idaho elk hunt. Got a nice bull btw. And i picked up my first handguns during my trip. I got the xdm 45 competition. And i picked up a smith & wesson 329pd air-lite .44 mag. And i am quite happy

By the way, I'll put it in the description, but I sneaked out the chronograph today for a few minutes between rainstorms and took a few shots again with the 5" Colt Government Model and the XDs. The Chronograph seemed to work okay.
Four shots from each pistol with some SureFire 230 grain hollowpoints I had:
Colt 5" barrel: 4-shot average of 776 FPS
XDs with 3.3 barrel: 4-shot average of 712 FPS
I'll do some more with this sort of thing when I get a new Chronograph.
Which xd is this hikok i hv the xd 9mm 4inch i love it which ammo are u using
I just bought a ProChrono Digital from Competition Electronics. I like it because it has an interface fora laptop and will store the data if needed. It was around $120 for the Chronograph and another $50 for the cable and software.
This is the only video I've seen of his that didn't start off with "Hickok45 here" But i love his guy, reminds of my grandpa hahaha
Nice shooting Hickock45! I love that pistol. I must find me one. Where do you get all your cool little things to shoot at like pigs, the gong and stuff like that? I wish I had my own little spot on some land to shoot like you have also... Someday, someday... Godspeed.
Great chapter 2, still want to get my hands on one of these.
I've got a HarWell Clip-N-Go holster for my XDs. Love it!
At that point in the video at least 4 holster makers yelled " get a holster on order for hickok45"
I have bought more holsters based on hickok's video's then any other source, and the makers know that. I have a feeling you will be getting a few gifts in the mail shortly. ;]
Billy Joel is in a New York state of mind....Hickok is in a 45 state of mind. Yeah!
If Hickok Likes it......I likes it :D
Would of been crazy if that 1911 mag worked in the XDs!
My father has an early xds .45 and recently picked up the 9mm version, and i found the same thing. The trigger is much better on the later production 9mm xds.
Best shooting channel for sure.
He handles the recoil of a .45 better than most handle the recoil of a .22
My 9mm XD-M [full-frame and compact] are fun to shoot, eats all brands of ammo I put in it, and is nicely accurate outa the box.
springfield xd&xdm are some badass guns.
An XDs chapter 3 video would be a nice way to answer this. thanks.
