  • I installed a Givi Airflow screen (model AF3112) to my 2017 V-strom 650. This vid will show how easy it is to install and a test ride at half height. Bonus first go putting the bike on its centre stand to wrap it up!
    CODE WORDS:
    There will be 2 code words per video. The first 2 people to comment ONE code word each, will get a bigger sticker sent to them (again, provided I have or they send their details).
    If someone types BOTH code words they will be DISQUALIFIED... the idea is for 2 PEOPLE to WIN.
    An example of correct use would be:
    Codeword 1: MOTORBIKE Codeword 2: FISHING
    Person A: Fishing (correct - doesn't matter about the order)
    Person B: Motorbike (correct)
    Wrong person: MOTORBIKE FISHING (disqualification!)
    Person C: Hey man, great video. Loved it when you hooked that stonka spanish mackerel and its teeth nearly tore you to pieces. (good comment and goes into the draw for prizes)
    Person D: Fishing (too late - someone else already got it in)
    * If it's unclear who the first 2 are on UA-cam, it will be down to how my notifications order the 2. I'm the video ref, and I trust I'm better than any NRL video ref!
    It's all just for fun and maybe build some online comradery.

    Tip for the centre stand.
    Right foot on centre stand peg, hand on bar, grab subframe or grab rail (can't remember where on the 650 and I work at my local Suzuki dealership 😂, I also have the 1050) with other hand and push down while lifting up.
    You don't pull back on the bike at all. Bike should be stable enough that you can take all your weight and stand on the centre stand foot.
    It's all in the leg, if your back is hurting you aren't standing straight enough.
    Takes very little effort to do once you've got it figured out.

      Exactly... i had the same problem with the center stand. I found some UA-cam vids on it. Really easy now.

      Thanks mate. I knew it had to be a technique issue. I was told by previous owner to pull back on grab rail while pushing stand down. Will try your way and watch some vids.

      can you give me a vid? I use right hand on one bar from the passengers footpeg to pull and pushing with rightfoot on the center. Stiil is quite heavy. Maybe i overlooked a detail of you all.

    One of my best purchases for the motorcycle. I wonder why Suzuki doesn't put such glass in stock 🤔. Airflow is the best! My height is 182 cm and it solves everything. V-Strom is a dream bike now. ❤

    New sub here mate for feckin around with centre stand and coin drop. Also enjoy your videos as is. Nice house and garage/shed too mate. Keep doing your things. I don´t have a Vstrom 650XT but surely it is on my very narrow wish list for my second bike ever. Started riding only now at 33 years old.

      Haha thanks mate, appreciate the comment and sub. I sold the Vstrom about 6 months ago - great bike but I prefer off-road riding so have the Xtrainer 300 & KTM 500 now. Perfect age to get into it mate - I'm about 10 yrs older and only got back into it a few yrs ago, feel like I'm just hitting my straps 🤣

    Thanks for a very useful review of a screen I hope to try (in universal format) on an otherwise naked bike. The double layer with attendant smoother airflow seems to be the reason for its success in reducing buffeting.
    BTW, you may find that using your left foot/leg makes centre stand use easier even if being a right footer makes that seem counter intuitive. Good luck!

      Thanks Ron, hope the screen works for you. Might give the left leg a go next time.

    Glad the GIVI works for you, I went for the Suzuki touring screen, the one with the deflector, the tinted variant :D. For my 176 height it works really well but I think for taller riders, not so much. I get a breeze on top of my helmet, right where the main vent is so ... that's actually perfect (this is with the deflector in the most aggresive position and the screen mounted on the highest holes). This is at 100-130 kph speeds. At lower speeds I can confortably ride with my visor up and sometimes even at 100 I just use my drop down sun visor (another use for an already amazing extra to have on a helmet)

    • @AdvHQ
      @AdvHQ  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, the screen definitely works but as I did mention, I was content with the standard screen after a few weeks with the better helmet (this helped a lot). I imagine your devoted touring screen would work well and glad it suits you. It's the gusty crosswinds that I've gotta learn to live with now!

    Sit on your bike and rock it off the stand, that way you are sitting on the bike and controlling its forward motion as it comes down using your front brake. Putting it on the stand should evolve into a one motion zero out of breath maneuver. You probably have it all figured out by now. LOL. GOOD REVIEW OF THE AIR FLOW! Thanks!

      Cheers mate, coming from a DRZ it's super comfortable. I'm still adjusting to winds (especially cross winds), probably as I'm new to road riding. You do sit up quite high.
      It's a fairly well priced bike for what you get - I just couldn't afford the T7 and wanted something more road based, as I have the DRZ for more trail based rides. Enjoy the research mate, it's half the fun!

    I only experience buffeting with the Givi Airflow when there is a strong headwind. I also have mine set half way up.
    As for the center stand, I find this new Gen 650 is harder than the 1st Gen 650. I make sure I am on level ground, as a slight slope will make it much harder. From the video, it appears that your driveway was sloping up slightly towards the garage.
    Enjoy the V-Strom!!

    Great vid! I couldn't see clear or I must've missed it, but did you install it on the highest position on the bracket? I'm 178 cm (5'10''). I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I guess I'll have to figure it out, but what do you recommend as far as the position? Thanks! This video was just what I was looking for and it came my way without even looking 😅

    • @AdvHQ
      @AdvHQ  2 роки тому

      Thanks mate. The Gopro is looking through the screen (at basically any posution). I did a full high test ride and the top of the screen was basically at horizon level, stopped buffeting quite well but visually for me not great (maybe in rain?). The vid was at half height, I was looking straight over, not obstructed, and pretty much same clear air. I've still got to try it lower to see how that feels. I'm 181cm, so similar.

    Codeword: Air-Flow
    The Givi Air-Flow has really made a difference for me.. I did also experience the buffeting around my shoulders which I manage to fix with the Oxford Trapezium mirrors.. cheap and effective for me..
    Can I ask what microphone you use?

    • @AdvHQ
      @AdvHQ  2 роки тому

      Yeah, screen is impressive. Just ordered the mirrors from your Vstrom walk-around vid.
      I think that mic was Purple Panda and I'm trying Rode now (but sometimes gopro doesn't recognise it and I lose audio 😢)... I just use a dango mount and clip to it, I think it's less clear but more transferrable to other helmets. Something I'm still working on as well haha

    Have one of these screens on my ktm1190. If not going for long spin I slide front section off and only use fixed screen. Full screen really ruins the look on my bike. If any of your mates have and use main stands on their bikes, just go have a look as there's a knack to it, and once shown it becomes easy. Regards Al
