- Is "A Tout Le Monde" Megadeth's SADDEST song? In order to find out, we'll be watching a live performance of this classic track at Woodstock in 1999. The song is rumored to be about a time when frontman Dave Mustaine tried to end it all by taking a load of valium pills. Fortunately, Dave was unsuccessful in his attempt. The song has a very dark, reflective tone with many sorrowful chords. Do you think the sadness in this track tops Metallica's darkest songs? Get on Dave Mustaine's level by taking my music theory course below and writing some sad songs yourself muhahaha

I would like to hear your take on why Papa Het's rhythm playing style while singing is so difficult. I hear other guitarist admit what he does is a beast but I not heard a good explanation of why. I'm not a guitar player maybe that's why I don't get it.
Hey I know I’m 12 but can you reach me how to play pantera floods solo
The chorus in french goes "to everybody/To all my friends/I love you/I have to go"
MASTER SHRED!!! Would you please check out Conquer or Die by Megadeth?
For me this song isn't sad at all. It's a love letter to all you leave in this world when you pass.
which is fucking sad no matter how you look at it especially for people who love you
yeah, in my darkest hour sounds a lot more desperate
6:25 Dave Mustaine's voice peak. Seriously, I wish Dave could sing in that way all the time, he sounded really powerful and amazing here.
Ye fr man. He almost sounds like Axl Rose.
He had some singing "lessons" off Chris Cornell before they recorded Youthanasia. I read an article round that time and he stated he wanted to actually try and sing on the new album rather than the snarl or Mickey Mouse on acid as he described himself!! 🤘
that's not power. He is screaming
Youthanasia has got some of Dave's best vocals. Sounds a bit similar to Mike Patton (The Real Thing album esp.).
I was going to say, I'm not a huge Megadeth fan mostly due to Mustaine's awful voice but he's actually killing it in this performance.
I was honestly convinced it would be In My Darkest Hour….
Promises is sadder, though. Everyone seems to forget Promises.
I went through depression and this song and fade to black helped me get through it.
Same. I'm glad we've both made it through :)
For me it was a tout le monde
That song just has an all around nostalgic sound and cool vibe to it. Almost like you're sailing when the chorus starts. Hard to explain.
There are similar flavors in the Secret place. Nostalgic, cool and melancholic.
(Time: The Beginning) will always be the saddest to me.
It's a reminder for me that time runs way faster than we realize, and that it never stops for nothing we go through in our lives, be it good or bad. It's truly the most UNDERRATED song they've ever created, hidden in an album hated by almost everyone.
Play in D minor, the saddest of all keys. It makes people weep instantly, I don't know why
Ya'll know nothing. The saddest song is Promises from highly underrated and omitted The World Needs A Hero album. Both lyrically and musically, I think it has no contest.
The acoustic version from the Canadian TV is beautiful, and Pitrelli's backing vocals and acoustic guitar solo are perfect
I absolutely love Promises 😎 a bit more than I love A tout le monde.
Dave mustaine as a vocalist peaked in the late 90s
I mean he never really peaked above 3/10 as a singer
Marty with that hair and outfit, looks like a normal guy you’d see working at Wal Mart, but happens to be an absolute God at guitar
I was taking French in high school when this song came out and had my teacher translate it for me and ended up having a meeting with her afterwards cuz she was concerned I was gonna hurt myself or someone else. Once I explained it was just a song and I wanna to know what it meant it was all good. Definitely one of the saddest songs. Got me, and I'm sure plenty others, through some shit.
The French verse :
A tout le monde (to everybody)
A tous mes amis (to all my friends)
Je vous aime (i love you all )
Je dois partir (i have to go)
You should check them playing she wolf at the same show they killed it
They killed every song at Woodstock 99

In my darkest hour def the saddest. It’s so relatable to anyone who has especially been through traumatic events or anything like that
most tracks from the Risk album make me cry.
You should do something on savatage one of the most underrated metal bands ever, also the guitarist that would replace freidman would be al pitreli former savatage guitar player and underrated as well but not as much as Criss oliva
Please savatage!
Savatage is extremely sad pulls on every emotion that you have. Love me some Savatage.
I was so lucky to see lord Dave in the flesh finally 4/26 Omaha NE of all places by a happy accident. Check one more off my bucket list. A Tout is a sad song and another great example of his ability to articulate through song writing some of his life experiences. He and Kiko were tight, the guitar was of course exceptional although MF will always be my guy! I tell all the I don't knows that I know that if you wanna break into Megadeth start with the Capitol Punishment record which definitely does have A tout Le Monde on it!
I think that Dave said somewhere that he wrote this song after recovering from literally dying of overdosing on drugs (they reanimated him,of course) and that this song is a note for everyone (a tout le monde) for when he actually dies.
I do think it's the saddest. And definitely most beautiful
bruh for me the intro to good mourning black friday is the saddest. The way chris poland plays... I just can't describe, but I can attribute many feelings of hopelessness and a sense of doom, knowing what is coming and being so sad that nobody else listens when you point it out or simply just anxious anticipation.
I love that song, but isn't that a song about a murderer? I suppose it could be sad in an abstract way, as if you are trying to imagine yourself in the victim's shoes. Interestingly enough, for me I don't cry when I listen to the song and I love how dark it is. But it also has a kick ass guitar intro.
I’d love to hear you react to their song You’re Dead. It’s a bit of a mess but I like it lol.
Promises is the saddest.
Iceland 94 or 95, i was 14 and my school band were always playing school dances. Part of that was learning the best and hottest songs at the time without the internet. Hard times🙂. Anyway we desided to bring this song on to the set list. Only proplem was that nobody our age was listening to Megadeth in Iceland at that time. Not the crowdpleaser we were hoping for. But one of Megadeth best songs 😃
It sounds like Megadeth on valium compared to the rest.
Yes it's a great song but I dont get sad from it. It makes me reflect but its optimistic for me. I'm in love w this song since I learned of it a few months back actually.
Diggin these Evil Videos Shred! I'm a guitar instructor myself, and these are entertaining as HELL!
Music theory notes:
F# minor
Modulation to G# at the end
Double chorus
Rocking the demanufacture shirt dude 🤘🤘
Muhahaha
I cant stop crying.
"You know the sleeping feel no more pain, and the living are scarred"
I just watched megadeath today at the BOK in Tulsa OK and I got a Dave mustang pick and their lead guitarists sweat band and a lamb of god pick
Can u start doing more vids about music theory and metal in the vain of the ones u did about Bach? I feel like u could become a metal version of Adam Neely and fill a niche that really isn't done by anyone else. I would love to see a video about how u could use counterpoint to write metal harmonies or something like that :)
Right?! That would be great Shred!
Those videos take a lot more work….I’m trying to figure that out though. Might need to hire an editor
Loved the Bach videos
Great lyrics...I get so frustrated because I think deep..and my life feels like a song or a movie but I have a hard time talking with peers about life ,they dnt Wana hear it..sadly they might die without ever thinking ....what's it all about 🤔
I feel ya Josh. completely understand. same boat. just hang in there!
Québec love megadeth ! Merci dave et shred ! Thanks !
Again asking for conquer or die 🙏 can't wait for this one
honestly shred is one of the best people on youtube absolutely love every second.
How do you get the hall like reverb on your wap belches? Is it a side effect of the wap juice itself, or a voice edit.
Man pours out his heart in front of thousands…
Shred - “BAAAaaurrrp”
It’s definitely one of their most epic songs… I think In My Darkest Hour is a contender.
Don't forget Promises.
I would say in my darkest hour would be the saddest, it hits right at home.
May promises is sad as well
I know this is a couple of years later (for the comments), and I agree it's "Tout Le Monde". I rarely have had a song make me cry instantly. I've had to listen to it several times before I could listen to it without crying. I had heard it was about his mother passing away and my mom did as well in 2018. So yeah. I could relate to that being the saddest Megadeth song.
Still it's a beautiful song. I often sing the chorus as it gets stuck in my head.
As for the saddest song ever, I would nominate the song "Gloomy Sunday". That one is about suicide and originally done in 1933 by Rezső Seress. I just know about it because one of the bands I like a lot covered it.
I’d say “Promises”.
I also like Promises but this track is not so memorable. In general MEGADETH repertoire is not rich on ballads because from the start the band was created to play speed & aggressive music. But in the late 90's Dave Mustaine & Co released the most pop oriented album under the name "Risk". I recalled very short but at the same time pretty nice song that's called " Time: the beginning "! You can find the track in the end of the album & I hope you will be impressed with this ballade! 😢 ❤🙏🤘🔥
Shred you should review some randy rhoads. Can you do the live video of over the mountain in Albuquerque 1982?
Time the beginning is also a contender, one of the most underrated songs imo
Shred, you definitely should do She-Wolf, the harmonic leads from Dave and Marty are just great
Literally shred reviews all my favorite songs, like I don't have to request anything in the comments
dude have you heard of the hardest part of letting go? I think that might be the saddest can you do a review about it
In my darkest hour has a very sad "evil" mood
weirdly enough, in my darkest hour, while not very "sad", has been there in those 3 am crying sessions. it definitely has something to do with the anger of the song. it's angry sad!
For me, it would probably be In My Darkest Hour or Addicted to Chaos.
Time the Beginning ist the saddest song.
I saw an interview where Dave said that the song is about if the dead could say one last thing, what would it be? He thought it would be to say I love you
I would go for Promises
I think of lost loved ones and friends when I listen to à tout le monde and smile like the lyrics
English translation: ''To everybody, to all my friends, I love you, I should leave''
Promises is really good too, quite sad.
That’s the best sounding Megadeth concert on UA-cam, Marty came straight from the party he looks high and Dave scowls towards him a couple times. Megadeth brought it that day
I love this song!
Dave fucken rules
Promises
The saddest song from Megadeth at least for me would be or In My Darkest Hour, or Time: The beginning
😭
Ever hear the version of this song from united abominations? Cristina scabbia from lacuna coil guest vocals on it.
I'm Québécois so I can translate it for you:
To everybody, to all my friends, I love you, I have to go
The modulation was a very common trope in the 90s. Sounds good in a vacuumm but it was pretty cliche in that context.
I would really like you to talk theory on any Animals as Leaders song
Utterly my favorite song from Megadeth 👺👹👿👿
I would’ve thought it would be promises
Marty's hand freaks me out. It looks so weird while hes playing!! I love that song. Its possibly my fav Megadeth tune!!
For all the world
that belch was in the key of WAP.
Use the man is pretty depressing too imo
Seen the man with what's her nose from Lacuna Coil , love it
If you want real sadness, go and listen to any Sentenced rerord made with Ville Laihiala on vocals .
Promise
It is Promises. 🎤👋
I mean the entire album Risk made me cry but that wasn't because the music was melancholy.
What about The Hardrest Part Of Letting Go... Sealed With A Kiss and Promises ? Both song has more saddest than A Tout Le Monde
Imagine competing with metallica, no wonder he became suicidal ☹️
Cool FF t-shirt)
for me it's addicted to chaos
In my darkest hour
A tout le monde = To the world/ To everyone
A tout mes amis = To my friends
Je vous aime = I love you
Je dois partir = I must go
"a toot Le mond"
You're wrong - In my darkest hour is Megadeth's saddest track, you need to do a video on that! plus the solo absolutely shreds
In My Darkest Hour isn't sadness, it's anger.....
Was he the Dude in the PANTERA videos to where they were at a Hotel and F'n with him. Talking about donuts and he was tripping flipping on them n stuff?
If so..... that's too gawddamn funny!
Nice on the yngwie doughnut line lol
Great song, but if you want a SAD Megadeth song... That would be Forget To Remember from Super Collider. Easy to overlook, I know, being form that album.
I find Promises to be the saddest
A tout le monde = to all the world
a tout mes amis = to all my friends
Je vous aime = I love you (plural)
Je dois partir = I have to leave
No donuts just beef jerky
I'm so glad Dave didnt put a big anthem breakdown chant in it. It would fit but how cheesy would it have been?!. That's good writing right there.
It's sad but imho, time: the beginning is a little more sour lyrically
Someone could recommend me sad metals songs? Similar to A Tout Le Monde, Pantera Hollow, Metallica Fade to Black... That kind of stuff. Thanks.
Poisonous shadows is really a sad song.
i would have said promises
My last words.
