Now THAT'S how you close an album!!! ~ TOOL - RIGHT IN TWO ~ [REACTION!]

- Skullz reacts to Right In Two by Tool for the first time
Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles. Formed in 1990... due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and very long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship, and the band's insistence on privacy....Tool has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.

“Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here” Definitely my fav lines on this album 🤘
Absolutely.
Best song lyric I've ever heard really
One of the most brilliant and profound verses ever written.
Mine as well, maybe my favorite line of any song period.
Can someone explain what this means, i was never good with poetry
Since I believe you to be a true Tool fan like some of us, I think it's only fair that you wait 13 years before you react to their next album. That's what we had to do. Imagine having to do that!
Noooo. Please don't ask me to wait another 13 years.
HA!!!! Skulls will have to wait however long the rest of us have to wait until Tool put out another album.
@@hailzmoon4659 except we're already 3 years in.. so.. two, five, or ten more to go, if I had to guess 🤔
No please don’t wait 13 years🫤
You heard the man, 13 years! Mark your calenders! 😂😂😂
“I can’t imagine how he feels now.”
You’ll have no problem with that when you hear Descending.
Fear and anxiety you say?? Stay tuned for our next installment of TOOL "Fear Inoculum".
well said.
This is one of the best songs ever written imo
FAX. Or shared opinion.
A prelude to Descending? Possibly, imo
Absolutely! Every time this song comes up on one of my playlists, it is cause for pause.
And it's just a b-side in essence. There is more talent in this band than there is in the entire world
I listened to this and descending on loop all plane ride to Missouri earlier this year to see my 3rd show of their tour. The first 2 shows they didn't play this or the patient so I kept going to shows until I saw them play these songs. God it was AMAZING seeing them play right in two live
..as much as i have literal perfect respect for Lateralus.. ..9 times out of 10, i go to 10,000 Days..
..and there is no way for me to explain this, it's just that way..
..thank you for this album review.. ..remarkably done..
Thanks man! You don't have to explain your preference! We all have our own reasons! 🤘
Lyrically, this is my favorite track on the album. It hits me hard every time.
I think lyrically this could be my favourite song of all time
I’m getting giddy thinking about your reaction to FI!!!
LoL 😆..."they don't understand ". How many of us have had that exact same thought trying to share this "Tool" with our fellow monkeys trying to raise human conciousness. Skullz i gotta say man, you are by far the best to watch tool reactions from, your on point with a lot of the message lyrically and instrumentally, you pick up on a lot of the nuances in their albums and you always let us know the evolution of the song you have listened to after time, their music still surprises years and years after. Can't wait for FI. That album showcases how in touch with the times these guys are, it's almost prophetic considering it came out just before the world started free falling. Love your work brother, keep at it!
Much love brother! 🤘🌀🔥
This is a better version of the comment I was going to make.
So I have been a gigantic Tool fan since like 1996. Almost at times an obsession. But one day, my husband (now ex) asked me if I'd ever heard this song! I looked at him with total confusion, thinking "does he even know who he's talking to"?
Top 5 for me in their discography. The heart of the subject matter is the most poignant. Simple yet so complex. And I love that he speaks from "both sides" when it comes to belief. Angels. Monkeys. Evolving thumbs. Life. Death. Greed.
46/2 is 23. Viginti tres is 23. Maybe a harken back to 46 and 2. Makes sense when you consider the lyrics of Right in Two.
This song builds and opens up like 46&2 does. Worth a full unbroken listen many times.
There are a handful of about 5 reactor/analysts that I hold close to my heart. Their reactions are visceral, emotive, knowledgeable and have that emotional impact that equals mine. Good or not your reactions fall into that group of 5. I have been a fan/fanatic of Tool since the early 1990's and my appreciation of the band has grown exponentially since then. Watching people step into the Tool universe with a depth of thought is something that I truly enjoy. Your reactions/analyses touch all the bases. Thanks for the journey!
Can't wait for PUSCIFER and A PERFECT CIRCLE. 🤞✌️
Yes I'm going to see puscifer on All Hollows Eve here in Nashville. Can't wait
Havnt watched yet, about to, but love the fact that we got a surprise reaction drop!! Nicely done Skullz, you read your listener and anticipated our desires…. If only we could all absorb the lessons of tool and be more patient and happy with what we are given.
Viginti Tres isn’t really a song but shouldn’t be discounted for it’s contribution to the album as a whole… the theories surrounding the Enochian language as well as the less likely theory about adding this song to 2 others on the album is worth discussing at the very least, if not for the tool heads than for yourself at some point. Tool
Is deep, and all depths have merit in wandering.
Thank you Skullz for your thoughtful addition to the depths of tool analysis. Your consciousness is a welcome addition to the soup.
Many blessings brother, and blessings to all the listeners/watchers who give this soul your attention.
May we all grow together.
You’re so on point about the simplistic, almost literal writing of the lyrics on this one. It reminds of the saying “the more you know, the more you realise you don’t know” in that the maturity in this is the literal simplistic lyrics. It doesn’t need to be written in metaphors or in a way that you need to spend hours analysing. When the song opens up though, the most beautiful brutality I think Tool have been.
Also. This song is such a primal one. The lyrics are just such a call out to our evolution as humans and how off track we seem to get over time.
I've always felt sad for Maynard in this album too ... his taste of enlightenment seemingly being replaced with discontent at the current state of humanity.
It's a natural reaction when you wake up and everyone else is still asleep
Isn't that where we are tho?
I suspect this is as cathartic for Maynard as it is the audience who listen over and over again to this masterpiece
When you you compare it to his moms passing it's a very natural feeling for him to be and feel this way about everything
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
Love that line !
I think it is the line I'd pick if I had to narrow down Tool lyrics to just one !
it really doesn't matter how you look at Tool's toolbox just take it with you and let it, let you in Skulls your perception of it all will evolve! Spiral in and out it is the way. I have never been given so much by so few when it comes to the Toolmen.
SKULLZ your gonna have a good time with this one… the meaning of the song is deep!! And little towards the end 🔥 🔥 🔥 🥁 🥁 Danny Carey!!!!! Shows up!
Another great Tool reaction my friend. It’s funny that you said this track is about fear & anxiety, then 13 years later out comes Fear Inoculum! Perfect segment after all of those years. I am really looking forward to you reacting to this next album!
Can't wait to get to it! 🤘🤘🤘
Hope you’re planning on jumping to A perfect Circle and Puscifer after Tool. The Maynard journey continues
I know the feeling about family (and friends) being sick of hearing about Tool being amazing! Just wait till you catch a live show! Tool shows are unexplainably amazing!
I think it’s so freaking cool that you literally can split the song in two at it’s midpoint and it would be two totally different tunes.
Don't rush. You're good, there's no hurry to the next album. Most fans had to wait 13 YEARS... before Fear Inoculum. It just one album long song 2 me... until 🐦 🦃 🦉 🐥 🐔 🦅
I recommend you take a break before Fear Inocullum
This album truly cemented TooL as the musicians they are, Justin Chancellor being a pick-bass legend, Adam Jones being a masterclass painter on guitar, Maynard James Keenan being a one man choir and most importantly, Danny Carey truly became an octopus on drums
Undertow: learning to breathe
Ænima: learning to crawl
Lateralus: learning to walk
10 000 days: learning to run
Fear Inocullum: learning to fly
As an avid Tool fan.. Fear Inoculum was basically the same song 9 times over. It felt like a slog to listen to on every pass, only ever managed to get down the whole thing once.
Pneuma was the only song of note from my experience with the album. Everything else just blended together like a flavorless Tool smoothie.
Will have to try again with it, but only on a day where I have nothing going.
@@100deadI recommend giving it another listen with open ears. F.I. is fantastic.
@@TheNewAmericanMedia I've tried it again a few times since I made this post, and yeah, it has grown on me a bit. I still have my reservations about it, the whole thing kind of feels like they forgot the finer details of TOOL's sound and threw in some new styling to make up for that. Still sounds good, but it's a very different TOOL.
I think the main reason I used to experience a subpar blended experience was the song lengths. Half of the time, I didn't know that a song had just ended and another one came on. I just assumed it was another change-up. Taking a more focused look at it though, I can appreciate what they went for.
"How will they survive so misguided is a mystery. Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
is such a good line
Fuck yeah, that was an awesome reaction 🤘....thanks for the video 🔥🔥🔥
🤘🤘🤘
This was the first Tool song I ever heard because this girl I liked in high school had it on her MySpace page. They played it on this recent tour, so I finally got to hear it live after seeing them four times
Say it a little louder, because Maynard's in the back. WE NEED MORE TOOL!
YES!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Can’t wait till you get to the new album. It was a loooooooong time coming and the album is crazy different. And not in a bad way. Just in a more mature way. The maturity of the band in the years past between albums makes for a completely different experience.
Right I feel like their growth feels so big because they "skipped" an intermediate album 6 years ago but kept on honing their sound as if they didn't. If that makes sense.
@@HackNeyedOne for sure. There should have been an album in between. But because of all the legal bs they went through and all the money they threw into that, it caused a delay. But I’m not disappointed. It’s a great album. I just hope they do another one.
yeah, odd how I've grown to love it, yet Eat the Elephant, the majority of Existential Reckoning (aside from Fake Affront), and Mars Volta just didn't hit the mark for me
@@original696sin Danny's keen on 2025ish
Well you gotta remember that A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are unique in their own way. They’re completely different than Tool. Each band has their own signature sound. Tool being the best of the 3 obviously.
So ready for you to transcend space and time with Fear Inoculum! Also, be sure to check out their cover of No Quarter and Adam Jones’ song The Witness (basically instrumental Tool) 🤘🏼
Skullz gesundheit! Loved your 10000 Days reactions. Vicariously we sit on the sidelines again. Appreciate your introspection.
Amazing commentary on this. Best I've seen in four years of watching reactions 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Much love Marissa! Appreciate that! 🤘🔥🌀
Right In Two should vault right into your top 2 Tool songs, if not #1. It's a tough call, but there's no denying it's way up near the top...all 4 at the top of their game!
Definitely do Opiate next, then you'll get a sweet contrast coming from their very beginning and then going to Fear Inoculum.
Done! 🤘
I would say the OG Opiate not their recently remade beautiful version
I really like what you said at the end, about the need to stick up for yourself. We live at a very unique moment in history, where we know more about how our actions affect the people and the world around us than ever before, yet continue to let others get away with the extreme hoarding of wealth, and all it’s associated troubles. I think holding other people accountable is something that we definitely do all need to work on, and if more people are held accountable, it will make for a much healthier society as a whole
Keep up the good work brother!
Also I really hope you react to opiate!! It’s very overlooked, it has a very similar sound to undertow, which makes sense given they wrote a lot of the songs for both albums around the same time
Opiate is up next my friend! 🤘
@@Skullzrapper yesssss
Skullz... Just found you on Saturday morning... Watched your entire TOOL journey by Sunday night. I cannot imagine my life - my pneuma - without TOOL. The thought, honesty, and beauty that goes into their music is, to me, unparalleled. To share this trip with you as you discover them is phenomenal. Your insights are amazing... so thoughtful and interesting. I truly enjoy what you're doing, and I must say a huge thank you for letting us jump in the sidecar for your trip. Nothing rejuvenates, reinvigorates, and rebirths art more than seeing it discovered through some else's eyes (ears!), so... THANK YOU!!! Cannot wait for Fear Inoculum.
The thing about Tool is that there music always become realivent to you sooner or later and that particular song becomes your favorite.
Jup I can relate
Skullz, IS the best person on YT to explain tool. And this is coming from a huge loyal long term fan of tool.
Brother, I am 52 years old and feel like it was just yesterday that I found tool. Where does the time go? I saw tool in 2002, 20 years ago!? Can it be? Holy crap! I was a Captain in the Army then and Tool got me through some rough times...marriage, combat in Iraq and more. I usually can't stand a band after a couple albums because their quality usually goes down because of, what I believe, is required album production. Not Tool, these guys get better with age!! These guys are, without a doubt, so under rated by society. Tool should be mandatory study for anyone who is involved in music no matter what genre they are focused on. This is how its done!
My favourite Tool song and, in my humble opinion, the muscial and lyrical pinnacle of what makes Tool who they are.
It slowly sweeps you up from the ground into a swirling storm of thought provoking questions and musical brilliance before setting you back down on your feet again with more questions than answers, wondering what to do with it all.
For added impact, I suggest you try the video that has Right in Two played over a video called "The gloaming". They have nothing to do with one another, but at the same time, it fits so well you have to question if they weren't made for each other.
Can you believe 13 years went by between this album 2006 and fear innoculum 2019.
No, just the fact that 2006 is 16 and close to 17 years ago right now is plain out scary.
“My family wants me to shut up about them. They don’t understand. That don’t understand”.
Yep…story of my life. Luckily my kids have listened to them so much, they ASK for TOOL in the car. The wife…not so much. She’s a dork. But hey, I’ve done my bit and indoctrinated my kids with TOOL. 😁
Thank god
Fear Inoculum is my favorite album of all time. It's a masterpiece of musicianship from everyone involved and I can't wait for you dive into that. It's hard for me to pick a single favorite off the album cause they're all just that good
Have you reacted to Tool’s cover of Led Zeppelin’s No Quarter?
Just shows how ahead of their time Tool is. What they made music about back then holds even more true today.
TY so much Skullz been a hell of a ride brotha, and you finding your love for them makes it even better!! Onward & Upward!
Got to hear this live during their tour in early 2022. Amazing. Awesome work, dude.
Oh shit, I thought I had another week to wait! Right in Two is special
This song is definitely amazing you really should look up the video with the animation with the music in the background it's Fantastic
lol I have several things to note about this video. Lets take them chronological.
I did _not_ expect to hear a "God bless America" reference!
That sneeze cracked me up. Bless you.
And mostly: You are definitely a full blown member of the church of tool now. I consider myself agnostic, but tool is the closest thing I have to religion, easy.
The feeling of wanting to tell everyone around you about them is something everyone in the tool army can relate to. It's almost like a need to go on mission. Personally I find it exceptionally hard to really explain what tool has meant to me, and why they mean so much, without sounding like a pretentious bastard. That being said, I have successfully inducted one of my best friends and my father into the community.
I think this is part of the reason I enjoy truthful reactions like yours, so much. I have breathed tool since late 90' and there is no way for me to have that epiphany of discovering them for the first time again, except through reactions like yours. It gives me great joy to watch you really let yourself experience this and let it move you, like it has moved me so many times before.
I can still get very emotional when airdrumming or screaming my lungs out to any given tool track.
I have a lot of respect for your take on what tool is, and what they can mean to people. They have meant so many different things for me at different times in my life. My first favorite was "Ticks and leeches" so hearing you "bash" that stung me a bit :D And I know... Bash meant what, 9? 9.5? :D But considering how many tool tracks are 11's it stood out.
I expect you will continue to have new emotions when you are able to sit down in a chair and do nothing but listen to a tool album from start to finish, 3 times in a row. There are so many layers to digest.
Can't wait for Fear Inoculum even if it is the least interesting lyrics wise. Love your work. Spiral out. Peace!
Skullz would you consider going on another journey after finishing Tool? Would love to see you dissect this band’s discography. Very deep and poetic band that wrestled with their own personal demons and death and loss only to find a way to come out the other side and keep on rocking! I submit to you Alice In Chains!
Now that would be an absolute treat. AIC and Tool are literally my top two favourite bands.
One of Tool's best songs!
I really enjoyed the journey, man. This album does have a tendency to grow on you. Especially when you have to wait 13 years for the next album! 😂
Anyway, can’t wait for the next Tool reaction. Although if you’re gonna do Opiate, you might wanna get it in before Fear Inoculum; that way, you’d be making the bridge from their absolute earliest stuff to their most recent.
Either way, I guess what I’m trying to say, is keep on minitruckin’!! 🤘🏼
"Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky and Fight over life, over blood, over air and light Over love, over sun, over another
Fight for the time, for the one, for the rising."
Those lyrics really hit home. 🙌
Awesome that you heard the connection between Intension and Right in Two. I've always felt they need to be played together. Spiral Out! 🖖🏿🤘🏽🖤👽
Oh yes. We need more Tool!
Banger, on of my personal favourites. Glad to be a small part of your tool journey here on yt
I know you’ve already listened to Pneuma Live w/ the octopus. However, there’s SO MUCH MORE to Fear Inoculum. The textures, the lyrics, the layers and the way the songs build are simply masterful. And IMHO, Descending is the Cream of the Crop. I know you’re gonna love it ALL !!!
Amazing to watch you being pulled in the Tool repetoire and enjoying their music more and more. I can’t wait for Fear Inoculum, it’s going to blow your mind :)
Tool put the drum/percussions on the front of their song. Love that 👌
Definitely one of my favourite Tool songs.
Right in two is a straight banger! and masterpiece idk why everyone always says to listen to intension with it it flows good with the album but I've always thought it was it's own song
They played this after the Grudge and it was like a sonic cleanser. The Grudge was a thick heavy wall of sound barraging us. Then Right in Two seemed airy in comparison. It was my seventh time seeing them and how this song hit was the surprise of the show.
This is by far my favorite tool song.
This song always reminds me of the movie Prophecy, with Christopher Walken. Have always loved this one...💜🌀💚
The reason that Viginti Tres sounds like...sounds is because... it is sounds. It was actually meant as extra tracks/layers onto 10,000 days but the band decided to not 'clog' up the sound. Viginti tres translates to 23 in Italian, and some say the extra layers are supposed to be played over top of 10,000 days, hitting play on Viginti Tres 23 seconds after hitting play on 10,000 days. If you can time it right.
That's interesting, I'll try that at home tonight.
For me Tool have always closed an album leaving you with a flavour of what’s to come.
Undertow takes you to Aenima, Third Eye takes you to Lateralus. This song takes you to Fear.
Devolution isn’t correct. He continues to evolve, just in different ways. Due to the gap in albums re time, this has to be remembered. For me regarding lyrical themes and and continuing of his narrative, I see his last 3 albums as a trilogy. Eat the Elephant, Fear Inoculum then Existential Reckoning. 3 bands, one poet.
Not having to wait 13 years is a blessing, enjoy
You have to see Beards of Harmony cover of this tune, it's absolutely amazing!!
Another great reaction bro, it's an amazing song. I can't wait for you to get into FI. Been a huge tool fan since the beginning and love everything from tool, but this new album is just incredible, a true masterpiece of song writing. Easily some of there best work. Cheers brother and take care, till next time spiral out 🤘🌀🌀🤘
Love the musical breakdown in the middle. Starts with a tribal drum sound and builds up to that heavy part. It’s like a walk through the timeline of humanity with the inevitable ending of bombs dropping
3:30 Dude ! Don't apologize for that ! As an OGT I am amazed at how you notice....I do, some of them, yet can't recall which song like you do...and I have a 30 year head start !
K, you have to wait 13 years before you get to listen the next album like we did! 😉
EKK!! I can’t wait for the insight into this one. It’s just, an amazing song.
At the end of the song. The music fades. All of us, each and every of us has done exactly what you did. We sit and listen to the silence at the end with our eyes closed. Hoping and hoping some more for one last whisper ....
I literally spent years analyzing Maynard’s vocals to come to some of the same conclusions you were able to draw on your first listens. Kudos for that. It was so refreshing years ago to hear Right In Two and know immediately what it was about. Looking forward to your next album dive man! 🤘🏼
This is thinking music, from the lyrics to the theory, to the sound construction and recording. Everything is done at a deeper level.
Another great take.
Tool mastered their craft with this one
In high school I had to write a letter from the POV of a character from the book we were reading. I chose a character who was a soldier in the Vietnam war and was very religious. So I just used these lyrics.
Sad this album reaction is coming to an end. Contains some of my favourite songs
Especially Jambi, The Pot and Right in Two. So epic.
Love your reactions and your breakdowns 👌🤟
Been loving your 10 000 days journey! Thanks for going through the whole album and shareing 🙏 Looking forward to whats next 💜 Live your best life friend
One of their best lyrically... Up there with Vicarious for me!
The video effects on the last song were awesome 🤣
“Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here”
Maynard. Greatest. Ever! Ever!
They played this song when I saw them in Louisville earlier this year. The animated visual that went along with it was insane. It was like one of those ancient monkey masks that slowly split in half and exposed this slick smooth black chihuahua skull looking thing that slowly morphed into a more alien looking head and then collapsed into a shape resembling truck nuts.
I’ve really enjoyed (vicariously) watching you take this journey through Tool’s discography. Right in Two is one of my absolute favorites by this band. Hope you enjoyed the ride and can’t wait for you to start Fear Inoculum. In the meantime, if you’re gonna check out some other stuff before starting that album I highly suggest No Quarter. It’s a Led Zeppelin “cover.” Spiral out Skullz 💀🌀
Can't wait for your Fear Inoculum reactions 👍🏻😎💯
This is one my favorites. Very deep lyrically.
Love your reactions dude ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
U do them in special way, thank u very much !!
Finally u go to fear inoculum 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Cheers, and keep goin' 💪🏻
Legend. So looking forward to the next couple of months for your Fear Inoculum reactions. Wear a seatbelt. Spiral out, brother 🌀
Whew - you made it Skullz! What a ride, but there's still more to go (pity your family) 😉 You've eaten the middle and now have both ends to go. My vote would be for "Opiate" next and then F.I. - seems like a more interesting contrast than going to F.I. first, so you could hear their beginning and then jump to their latest for the starkest contrast in their overall journey - that's the order I vote for. Either way, can't wait! 🤟
Fave song. This put Tool in my upper GOAT ring. Everything Tool + super clear lyrics (for me). Love the angels’ perspective. That POV makes the song. Sure, humanity’s doomed to repeat, but what makes this so emotional is the father’s called out on it, like he failed and he’s failed his children. Oof. BUT! What you did @5:00? Drifting Vicarious thoughts in play. "The universe is hostile, so impersonal. Devour to survive, so it is, so it's always been." Somebody can connect the dots between these two songs… We’re all doomed? Later on… a tempest must be just that? Hearing a lot of acceptance and fate. 🌀
“ITS FUCKEN OVER” 😂😂
