      Loved the Tim Horton's Canuck Coffee Grab ... that is SO typical of being a Canadian .... pity the coffee isnt as good as it was when it was OWNED by Tim ... the company now has destroyed the quality and raised the prices for crud in a cup and other junk
      Yolk of the day .... as they say happiness is the best medicine ... and of course 3 sunnyside with white toast and bacon and some strawberry jam ... dunk a slice and eat the eggs ... then jam on the toast left over add bacon and eat ... with a side of coffee ... That is breakfast
      wentworth ... 660 planes in 38 years or avg of 174 planes a year ... or 13 planes a MONTH
      tbh if youre going to be buying planes from all over ... BUY a C130 ... and get certified on it ... loads of room for planes ... and you can even hang hammocks in them to sleep ... add a kitchenette and composting toilet ... and you have a traveling flying camper ... with hauling capacity

    • @007camera
      @007camera 8 місяців тому +7

      Maybe the rush in the rebuilding process is the main cause of that tragic crash!!!! Maybe the uninspected gas tanks or the right gas cap caused the trouble! Gas tanks should gave been cleaned and the right gas cap should have been changed! It is too early to put it all on Sam with 1800 flight hours! Wait for the end of investigation! Pls
      RIP Sam! 🌺

      Ultimately Sam is the pilot and is responsible for it no matter the outcome. It had water in the fuel and a compromised fuel system. And should not have been flown yet.

      @007camera Make no mistake; I am so terribly heartbroken about this. They call it the Swiss Cheese effect. You only need one set of the holes to line up for an accident to happen. There will be a lot of self-blame and a lot of 'what if's', but we all have to face facts that ultimately Sam was in the left seat and made a judgement call that the plan was safe to fly, after that we will have to wait for the finale report for the most likely Probable Cause. Please R.I.P. Sam :(

    • @christophergagliano2051
      @christophergagliano2051 8 місяців тому +10

      This is going to get interesting, hopefully the NTSB report will draw a clear picture of what went wrong. It could be that the annual inspection was incomplete to include either missing the fact that the fuel cap gasket was missing and or neither of the propeller feathering systems were properly checked. But it needs to be clear that failure of the engine alone did not cause the crash. By design this aircraft should have been able to climb @200 fpm if the failed engine's propeller was properly feathered.

    • @fumo7887
      @fumo7887 8 місяців тому +17

      @@christophergagliano2051Unfortunately it’s on the inspection checklist, so it was clearly initialed even though it wasn’t present. There are usually multiple chained events that lead to things. And we’re already seeing some of it in the preliminary report. Gasket wasn’t installed, it should have been checked as a part of the annual, and the tanks weren’t sumped during preflight. It’s all devastatingly unfortunate, but it shows that checklists exist for a reason. In this case, the combination of the annual checklist and the preflight checklist led to a “Swiss cheese” alignment.

Then you said you were a part of their family for the last year it was heartbreaking to associate the words I was currently hearing with the loss I had just previously seen in your eyes. Sam was an amazing person and a huge part of why I enjoyed rebuild rescue. This crash sends shockwaves of distress through the rebuild rescue family for those that met him and those that never had the chance. Our hearts go out to those of you that had the opportunity to be so close.

    I’ve been watching you since you first tried to start the 401. This is my first comment. I just lost my wife of 49 years, 4 days before Christmas, and the pain is still raw. We watched your videos faithfully, together, and now I watch them alone. I’m in terrible pain because she meant so much to me. Isn’t it the same with Sam? If we walk into the pain, as you and your crew have, and I have, the pain eventually dissipates and we are left with fond memories. Those that have never made a mistake, broken a road rule or can see into the future, please take a bow. Was it the previous owner that needed a gasket or someone from where the plane sat for 2 years? That plane made the flight back to base without any problems. Should the refueller when they first flew have mentioned that there was no gasket or even the last refueller? Did the lack of the gasket cause the water/fuel mix or was there water in the refuelling truck? Make no mistake; I am so terribly heartbroken about this. They call it the Swiss Cheese effect. You only need one set of the holes to line up for an accident to happen. Jason, this must be the most pain you will ever feel. You must be completely heartbroken as all of us viewers certainly are. I have watched your show diligently and the friendships you have built over that time are everlasting. Just seeing all the guys who have participated in all the rebuild show that they have tremendous faith in you and what you are achieving in restoring these beautiful aircraft. But there are always dangers doing what you are doing. Will the plane EVER be the same again. I feel the same after I got in a car accident when an articulated lorry u-turned in front of us and we were literally the width of a tyre away from losing our lives. We could easily gone right underneath the lorry had we not hit the wheel and we know what could have happened. When I lived in the UK they would have written off and scrapped the car but here in Thailand where parts and labour are so cheap they rebuilt it but I will never feel safe getting inside it again. Due to the sadness surrounding Sam's death I understood you needed time to reassess your goals and those of the crew. I found out about the accident purely by chance but then realised that it followed the rebuild of the Cougar when you had 5 days to get it repaired before flying it back to the hanger. The final piece of the jigsaw was flying the plane back but something went tragically wrong. Not knowing how things work in the USA I assume there will be a full investigation into how and why and what happened but whatever it will not bring him back. I used to love seeing getting out of tight fitting aeroplanes and seeing him when you rebuilt his old bi-plane that he was keeping a secret. Please do not give up on what you and Joe and the crew have been doing and I am sure Sam would feel exactly the same!!! RIP Sam.

    I see in the comments people being sympathetic towards Jason. As for me... I feel for Sam's family for sure. But Jason has taken the channel to racing to rebuild wrecked or abandoned planes, like home remodel shows trying to remodel and entire home in 5 days. They are not the same and Jason is a novice, not licensed plane mechanic to make matters worse. Nothing about planes should be a race or rushed, people die when things get rushed and Sam is a very good example of that. The plane was rushed to be rebuilt, a tank gasket was not put on. The plane was rushed to be inspected by a guy who basically works for Jason, missing gasket not noticed although it's one of the very basic inspection items. Sam who was in a rush didn't have time to do a proper preflight which costs him his life because of a missing tank gasket...
    I have posted in a few RR video's how I felt like things seemed rushed as well as I have seen others mention it too. In 2 video's since Sam's death I have yet to feel like Jason is honestly sorry for his part in Sam's death. He should have owned it and taken a step back from all the rushed atmosphere. But instead? Lets look at 7 planes in 5 days! Jason is in this for the views and money at this point and that seems to be all that matters. Safety and responsibility are clearly lacking here on this channel even after it cost a man his life... I will not be a part of it any longer ~Un-sub~

      There unfortunately seems to be a lot of truth in the above. It's been clear from the beginning they were in over their heads. Yet keep taking on more. If it were just the 401, they might have a chance at seeing it through. Dividing time between a half-dozen non-airworthy planes was a recipe for disaster. They're simply spread too thin. But over time, it seemed to be more about the "show" than actually rebuilding these aircraft with the attention required.

      @@rickjablonski9669there's an older incident and risk management system called the Swiss cheese model. It's worth a read. Haste and failure to follow procedures are part of the issue. Worse in hospitals where clinical error is a leading cause of death

    • @rickjablonski9669
      @rickjablonski9669 3 місяці тому

      @@melanieford1269 I'm well aware of the swiss cheese model. But it's a good callout. So appreciate you mentioning this. And I'll add another...
      Which is "normalization of deviance". An ex-Nasa guy gave a speech on this a number of years ago. But the short of it is, when you normalize something that deviates from expected/standard protocols, it's only a matter of time before that could bite you in a big way. Maybe nothing bad happens the first, second, or hundredth time. So that deviation becomes normal. To the point that you may altogether lose sight of the fact that you're taking a risk.
      Then one day that deviation causes things to go south. Or maybe at that point it's been a couple deviations that have been normalized. Hopefully it doesn't result in a lesson that's learned in blood. But it could be.
      All that's to say, whether swiss cheese or normalization of deviance, complacency and comfort are often the most dangerous things you have to deal with.

      No, the 401 awaits parts, then inspections. Paperwork must be submitted and completed. It is a step by step process and parts are sometimes hard to get. Repairs are time consuming. The in depth restoration of the 401 will take a long time. Other projects just fill in the time while waiting on parts to be repaired or replaced and then inspected.

    I get that the Jason and the Rebuild rescue crew are grieving right now and I'm very sorry for their loss. Sam is a big loss to the channel. But I expected Jason to be transparent about what happened but he said nothing nor has he reacted to ANY comments about what happened. I was at least expecting Jason to say that he can't comment on what happened due to the ongoing NTSB investigation. I think the videos that Juan Brown (Blancolirio Channel) did on the crash were interesting but I bet Jason didn't think so. Is the 401 project going to continue? Are they still going to try and quickly flip old aircraft to raise money for the 401? Does Jason and crew have to wait until the final NTSB report is in to see if they can continue on the 401 and flip old aircraft? Does Jason have to get an A&P? I guess we will find out at some point.

    One of the things which You guys have only mentioned a few times, because most of your videos are rebuild videos, but like Jimmy has said frequently, the most dangerous time to fly a plane, is just after it has had some major repair work done.
    Having seen the NTSB review of the incident, Sam did make a mistake. That was to schedule his return flight as a priority, over taking the time to do a proper pre-flight walk-around.
    Having been in the US Navy, I know that many Policies and Procedures are written in blood. Take your time to do inspections properly when they are required.
    Take your time and do the repairs in Accordance with the manual.

    Things happen and you can't go back, you have to be very brave to move forward, I know it's not easy. I suppose there is an investigation and you can't talk about it, maybe talking about that won't change anything. Moving on is fine, now finishing the 401 has become mandatory, and Sam is following them daily.
    These new projects can help, the Rockwell had a ventilation hose installed incorrectly and fell into a golf, and the pilot came out completely unharmed. The Piper Cherokee was on a training flight the instructor cut the engine to simulate a failure, and..., it went wrong. The crew members were also unharmed. I hope you join forces and keep going, see you next Saturday!
