I'm sorry to say but this commes closer to the old G-wagon than to the defender probably because of the deal with Austrian-based Magna Steyr. (like in puch steyer who build the milatary g-class) I see so many reviews comparing it to the old or even worse to the new defender. It isn't under powerd as the old defender and isn't a playstation as the new defender. It has a awsome fundation as it is build on the chassis of real rugged "aussie" land cruiser 70 series. If you need a working vehicle i think this is the best and only choise you have for the moment in europe. Can' wait for the shorty...

Is the Commercial speed restricted on A roads and dual carriageways? It may be a climb up like in a Defender but at least there's good elbow room...

I have, though research found the same, the only way you can run though the business and claim vat is to nominate as a pool car. It would have to kept at the registered business address, mine is my home so ok, and demonstrate use of business only.

All new chassis, much more robust that any other. Galvanized and interior also spray waxed. This is over and above any competition.

Bad news for you. While the DVLA do classify it as a commercial for duty purposes, I’m afraid that HMRC DOES NOT consider that it is a commercial vehicle and therefor it is NOT VAT qualifying.
It doesn’t carry a ton, due to its tare being about 2.7 tons, leaving only 700kgs cargo limit including passengers and fuel and extras. Above that it breaches the 3.5 ton gross weight limit. Ineos are being less than honest on their web site by claiming it is certified as a commercial vehicle when they know full well that HMRC does not. So the VAT cannot be reclaimed and instead of tax relief on a purchase you get lumbered with a massive benefit in kind tax bill. To qualify as a ‘dual purpose vehicle’, like a five seat pickup, it absolutely must have a ton or more payload.
I don’t expect you to believe this but please check for yourselves and any dealer that claims that it is VAT qualified may be in danger of misdescribing their sale with all the consequences of that.
Please provide feedback on what you find. I have a commercial five seat on order but if the above turns out to be true, which I believe it to be, I shall be cancelling my order rather than signing their contract to purchase. I want a vehicle ‘built on purpose, to be a commercial vehicle, even though it is generally limited to 10mph less than ‘normal’ cars.

I had to cancel my order as the car is not recognised by HMRC as a full commercial vehicle, so the vat cannot be recovered by the business, ineos please make the pick up with a 1 ton payload so businesses can run this through their books as a 100% commercial vehicle

I’m afraid they cannot make the pickup with a one ton payload for Europe due to its laden weight then exceeding the critical 3.5 ton limit.
I have also cancelled my order this week and ordered a Ford Ranger Wildtrak with and electric bed cover and various options, which is a stock order and will arrive in about a month at the dealer. In truth it will suit me better, will be more economical, more roomy, more refined and comfortable and will save me a cool £25,000 due to the VAT qualification and other tax considerations for which the Grenadier does not qualify. I may even fit a winch, which could be used to help erect fencing and with a tripod and pulley, be used as a crane .

@@hedydd2 Huw it’s all thanks to you that I looked into this as I did , I’m absolutely gutted that ineos have scored a big own goal and all construction companies now will probably cancel their orders due to its status . I really like the grenadier but if I can’t run it through my business then it’s not the wagon for me . I may look at the ranger as you have and see if it suits my work.

It is a great disappointment even though I would have willingly paid the 10 to 15k extra over the Ranger’s net price before VAT for one. However the Ranger is a known quantity to me as I already have one in daily hard use towing 3.5 tons and carrying tools around in the back seating area. That is a 2.2 automatic that is now 9 years old and after the occasional wash, still looks like new.
I have had a demo of the last model 2.0 with 10 speed automatic Ranger and was so impressed with its performance, refinement and general utility that I and my brother remarked that it was the first pickup I’d ever consider to better my Land Cruiser 100 4.2 diesel in almost every way. Due to Grenadier’s failure to qualify for VAT, the Ranger is indeed now to replace my worn out Land Cruiser and I’ve no hesitation. It probably will not last another 25 years but then again, neither will I unless I find the elixir of life.

The big let-down as far as I’m concerned is the disingenuous and misleading claim on the Grenadier’s web site where it plainly claims that both the van and the five seater with panels are ‘certified as commercial vehicles’ when they are NOT as far as the critical rules of HMRC are concerned. I hate being deceived.
