In the MUNCHIES Guide to Oregon, host Gabi Chai traverses the state to uncover the natural culinary bounty of the state of Oregon. Overflowing with great wine, coffee, food trucks, seafood, and more strip clubs per capita than any city in the world, this gem of America’s Pacific Northwest is just begging to be explored.
Gabi kicks off her journey with a caffeinated history lesson about coffee and Portland from Duane Sorenson-founder of Stumptown Coffee Roasters-before popping next door to his restaurant, The Woodsman Tavern, to partake in another Oregon specialty: a tower of fresh-caught seafood. She also eats her way through a few of Portland’s 600 food trucks to understand the regional phenomenon that has created an entirely new dining scene. And no visit to Portland is complete without a meal prepared by Gabriel Rucker, the 2011 James Beard Award Rising Star Chef of the Year and 2013 Best Chef: Northwest-we get the VIP treatment and enjoy a home-cooked meal with Gabriel and his family.

Hooray Portland. There is so much food here. Don't forget Waffle Window - self explanatory. Stepping Stone Cafe - for the Smothered Bad Ass. Le Bistro Montage - for Mac and Cheese, and Gooey Butter Cake. Bro Dogs Food Cart - Get the Polish, and ask for his home made Mac and Cheese in the dog. Deutschland curry is fantastic. VIKING SOUL FOOD! - Get Mjolnir sauce. I've lived in Vancouver my whole life and love exploring food around the area.

The thing is Portland is naturally hipster but the good kind of hipster. All the negative types of hipsters are just people from out of state trying to emulate Portlanders. In Portland the term Hipster is much more specific and considered distasteful more than it is in other states. Also the negative hipsters are the ones inviting tons of people to Oregon. Oregonians have traditionally been kind and generous to outsiders but when it comes to them trying to live here we strongly discourage it. The state lines used to have signs that read something like this."Thank you for visiting Oregon. Please do not stay". Even my grandfather when talking to friends and family on the phone would lie to them about how horrible Oregon was and how it rained all the time. The reason was that Oregon is full of moderates who watched as every other state destroyed there own paradises. Take California for example they have run their state into the ground and they are running out of water. We do not want that to happen to Oregon and population booms is a real cause of this type of destruction. Of course the hipsters from out of state do not understand this.

This is legitimately the only episode I could stand to watch with this awful host and that's only because i'm passionately in love with anything Stumptown. Please use a different host next time Munchies, it'll make watching something like this a bit more bearable.

Is the point of this video to show off the much-hyped "great food scene!" of Portland, or is it to show the audience that an emaciated and tattooed hipster stoner-lookalike presenter actually does in fact, occasionally eat? Pretty hard to tell when viewing this 15+ minute example.

I love this presenters perosnality, she was so chill and engaged with everyone she met. BTW Portland is on my list of places to go now.

People read too much into coffee, I mean take kopi luwak for example. This bean has made it's way through the digestive system of some kind cat then been removed from said cat's turds, washed, roasted and served to humans. I have tried it and I would pick any shelf stored bean ( or freshly ground ) at your local, over this "delicacy".

Jay No. It's so mild it's just not too my liking. I like a strong dark flavour. KL is dark and it seems like it will be strong but it's not, best suited to occasional coffee drinkers imo.

ihave7sacks you do know that the reason for this is because the dutch forbid the natives to use coffee beans and therefor they scraped the catshit off the ground and used that instead? it's a complete myth that it is good coffee
(the Dutch colonists prohibited the Indonesian famers to pick and harvest the coffee fruits for their own personal use. As a result, the Indonesian farmers discovered a new way to enjoy and drink coffee. The Indonesian farmers soon discovered that the Asian Palm Civet ate the Arabica coffee fruits and left the coffee beans undigested in their poop. So what the native farmers did was collect the coffee beans from the poop, cleaned them, roasted them, and brewed their own coffee.)
