I don’t often comment, but that is beautiful work, fantastic effort, I have got ocd and my work has to be clean, linear and above and beyond expectations.
I even have to line the cross heads up in screws that no one will ever see, but I know it’s done. Maybe ott but that’s it and that’s how I work for the last 50 years. So never bother about how others work, just continue to do your own thing respect and best regards, Chris. 👍👍👍

Wish every installer worked to your standards. We work that way in industry, and I want the same for my home. Can't abide heaps of scrap wire ends and drilling debris under the floorboards. Keep clearing it all out and leaving a job to be proud of. Nice work !!!
yes, tidy up under the floor, unless it's 100 yrs of plaster debris in which case, hard nope. But i WILL clear up MY mess

I've had the good fortune to meet Nick and have him do work at my place... he is neat, tidy and professional (and perhaps a tiny bit OCD) - I've never seen someone that uses a vacuum cleaner for every hole drilled in a garage wall before... even I don't do that 😂

The quality of the workmanship speaks for itself , I would certainly want you to do work at my home looking at the care and planning went into this. I wish all sparks did work of this quality.
Always been a big advocate of having the rough in (what we call first fix in Australia) to be as neat as humanly possible. If the client and/or builder sees how much effort you apply to the things that arent seen, it directly correlates to your workmanship to those things that are seen. Obviously with time/cost in mind

Oval tube into the box is a very good habit for any spark to get into. Your future self (or descendent) will thank you. Yes clips in neat lines where not visible is a bit OTT... but that doesn't take any more time

Nick I rarely comment on channels but I have to say your attention to detail is fantastic and I get you, I'm the same and struggle to find trades people who are willing or able to complete work to this standard. We have taken on a small refurb and need a rewire near Bath and can only hope to find someone with your absolute commitment to completing a job to this level of perfection. At the end of the day you are the boss. You give the customer a quote and they accept. Essentially your a cut above the rest no pun. Going that extra mile to do things makes you get jobs over others. You have a method and routine of how you do your rewire jobs so keep at it pal. Tbh I'd be the same as you in your position. If you work and don't try, Your just trying to work.
Absolutely love the attention to detail on the cable route, clipping - everything. I run smokes in red cable too it's such a different finish. great work great content!
As a fellow sparkie… great to see the level of pride taken in your work. Personally, I’d use less cable staples, just thinking of the next guy. A clip every 500mm is enough for me on singles. With multiple cables, a 25mm galv union, nuts & a bracket. Main runs, use tray.
I’d never run in the corners of any room. That’s where people put trunking. Galv trunking sunk in if there’s no alternative & at least 50mm from the corner. Regs books make things look pretty, but don’t live in the real world… but good on you. Keep up the good work
just quickly from what ive seen-
straight runs to the board- means easier too pull and less chance of burning saving time
3core cut to same length- easier pulling through 1 time, less change of burning saving time
pendant pattern- they do it for new builds, i think it should be common practice for good light fixing
love your work mate, I really try my hardest to do the best job I can like you, even when I dont have the time and people to appreciate it :)

I see some spark in 50 years time installing a fusion-boiler in that house and marvelling at the high standards that electricians of today worked to. Unfortunately this seems more and more the exception.
I might have run that cluster of cables in the corner of the toilet room in the next-door room in 4x2 trunking in the corner and then across, under the fuse-board.

your adhd/ocd is perfectionism i have the same problem 🤦♂️ where everthing has to be uniform , inorder & neat 😮💨 and yes it does take slightly longer but the finish result is allways 🤩💯
Nothing wrong with spending extra time on quality when posting on YT. There will always be someone who can either do it better, quicker or cheaper (pick any two), some magicians will claim they can do all three! 😂 I'm currently running CAT6, fibre and speaker cable around the house, these videos help me keep the cabling standards as high as possible with the tools I've got. 👍
Don't change the way you work. You take pride in it, and it's well worth it. At the end of the day, it's your time, and you can spend it however you like. Maybe it will make others take more pride in what they do!

It's not wasting time, it's differentiating yourself and that appeals to people (like me) who want that level of finish. Yes we know it will never be seen but it gnaws away knowing it isn't right and yes, I am the kind of person who will "correct" something even when it's hidden under plasterboard.
So glad it's not just me that's a fussy get!

I've used the hole hawg and the super hawg, super hawg is alot bigger and aimed at plumbers for massive holes, I would highly recommend the hole hawg for sparks, had mine for years 👌

Good tip is cut lots of all round banding the plastic covered one...and place 👍 it along the joists instead of expensive staples or clips
The metal banding supports the cables nicely and looks super neat...
Or i have even fitted 2inch under the floor 😂
The trades I’ve asked to quote look at you like a madman when you say you’re happy to pay extra for this level of attention to detail. Probably triggers ‘customer from hell’ vibes for them but is the peace of mind knowing that corners haven’t been cut when it’s all covered up behind the plaster!

I'd pay extra to hve it done the way you do it. I did pay extra when my new garage/workshop was wired to get what I wanted rather than what would have just "done".

And definitely gonna steal the Red 3core and Earth for the smoke detector circuits. first im seeing that!
Hi, while I admire neat work, and this is.
As an electrical contractor I also see that just because we would like to run everything in a perfectly straight line, from A to B or laser up from a socket run, it clearly says in the OSG that any joists be drilled between 0.25-0.40 of the span of the joists between supports, so where rooms change and wall spans differ in distance that becomes more or less impossible as the zones change.
Yes refer to building regs in that case. We had to get a structural engineer involved on one job as the number of joist holes was ludicrous (LoxOne smart home system, literally hundreds of 1.5mm twins back to the control panel) ended up with RSJs (and yes you CAN drill them just like joists, the central part of the web is the zero stress area)
cost a few holesaws but peanuts compared to the cost of the RSJs
The easiest joists for any build are the open type composite ones with the metal bracing, no holes are needed at all with loads of space for separate cable runs, drainage etc.
What you call a “bit of wood” is known in Scotland as a lighting dwang. These are standard practice, and joiners will ask for electrical drawings in order to place these is the correct locations.

By the way for the size holes that Sparks drill the Hole hawg will do. Super Hole Hawg is designed more Plumbers as they generally drill larger size holes for waste pipes. And get the quick-lok hole hawg version if you can find it. Enables you to swap out drill bits without a chuck key. Its the BOOM!

I have the super hole hawg which imho I think is better because of the keyed chuck. I purchased mine after using my brothers which is the standard version (it has a hex shank which limits which drill/auger bits can be used. I don't think his had a gearbox on his and it was much lighter & smaller than mine, from what I recall.
Anywho, either way they're both an excellent bit of kit. I think the version I have was designed more for plumbers and the lighter one was designed more for sparks, I do both.
I'd go for the super, bulkier but it had 2 speeds, keyed chuck and eats through timber.
Agreed on a piece of floorboard or similar accross joists for Roses etc....off cuts laying around , easy ./ the days of screwing roses into ceiling , hoping to catch the edge of the joist , are long gone

I'm a mechanic and I work with the same mentality as you. Like yourself, I work on areas of cars that people will never see. Can you imagine if everyone gave 4% more. As you said, once you get into a routine and a way of working. The extra time it takes is negligible.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you taking pride in your work is taking too much time or not worth it. The small things are what make you stand out from other sparks. Most Clients do notice when they walk around at the end of the day.

No floor probes for stats? If not they should be at 1500mm from floor to pick up ambient temperature. Floor probes are always better to have in with ufh to limit floor temperature to limit danger of floor cracking etc

I would much rather pay the extra for an nbundy and account for a longer rewire than a bish bash bosh its not neccassary won't be seen. Well done for not dropping your standards! If you really wanted to impress clients they would be given a wire schematic after completion!
3 choices but you can only pick 2 of them cheap, done quickly and high quality so if customers wants quick and quality it’s not gonna be cheap an if they want cheap an quality it’s gonna be a slow process and if they want cheap and quick is gonna be lower quality and done by someone else haha 👍🏻

Having worked as a JIB APPROVED Industrial electrician for 50 years I was lucky to have worked in the decades where doing a good job was taken as the norm , having seen so called sparks work in the last 2 decades they would have been sacked 10 years earlier, I've worked for the biggest companies in England and worked on the largest contracts and worked under the scrutiny of electrical clerk of works who either worked for the client or the Education or Hospital boards, they checked every piece of work that you installed and they wouldn't hesitate to tell you to do the work all over again because it didn't pass the spec of the job or failed to meet the electrical regulations , so sparks today don't know they are born, they bitch about ring final circuits because they are too lazy to wire them, I have never installed a ring main circuit with smaller cable than 4mm , so in short keep on doing a good job, sod these other so called sparks.

I would have thought quinetic light switches might have been easier on those two way switches? The price cant be much different in pure cable cost alone...
Gen 2 feul super hog is the best, and absolute goat or a Unit, it's the best, pair that with an Irwin tri blade speed bit and your set, I use a 8amp battery with mine. She goes brrr, best $600 cad ever spent.
Aico recommend never putting smoke alarms on their own circuits.
Everyone works differently it is better to take a bit of pride in your work and just get on with it. It becomes sencond nature then to just do it nearlynearly
On the 2 ways, save your 3 core and earth and just run 2 core and earth for the strappers, as long as your have feeds and switch lines both ends. Saves money and space.
Not supposed to use an earth conductor as an live conductor/strapper bud.

Love your work Nick but around 4.30 in showing all your neat cable runs that are all drilled outside of building regs zones ie they are within 25% of the ends, noticed this a few times - pointless using a square to measure up to the middle of a joist then drilling it right near the ends 🤷🏼
