Terraria had the same issue, stacks of your stuff that eventually fill up and took another slot. but they did basically a x10 maximum capacity to almost all consumables and blocks, the best exaple of this problem was ammo, you could have just 4000 ammo in the dedicated slots, and then you would waste space. but with 9999 per stack of the same ammo type, you can go arround without worrying. same with blocks. and your tools, equip and valuabnle items remain unstackable

Terraria already has a better inventory system anyway. Instead of 4 rows and 9 columns, it has 5 rows and 10 columns. That's already 39% more. And also you can have 999 of blocks instead of only 64. 64? What, does Minecraft need to use multiples of 2? I'm sure they still use a whole 32 or even 64 bit integer under the hood anyway.

the solutions they introduce over time have technically solved the inventory issue but then a few updates down the line we’re back to square one cause there’s more items and more clutter and so it’s a weird case of power creep where the inventory has become an insane boss like you said and the solutions they add don’t amount to the modern game. we need a fundamental change but as for the bundle i’m actually someone who really likes how it works in its current state and always keep 1-2 on my as they are extremely useful for storing my crafting table, furnace, some torches and scaffolding and then i always leave room in it or just bring a second for clearing up clutter like seeds or other loot i get in small quantities

      @purplesnaks9712 6 місяців тому +3

Because bundles use a weight based on stack size, which I do find to be the absolute answer to the inventory problem as they clear up the main issue: Not the unstackables but actually the Lesser valued stackable items. Bundles will help here as they'll aid you greatly by cleaning up incomplete yet needed stacks of stackable items. Also having an inventory full of unstackables is crazy to achieve on a single trip anyways so I do not find this to be an issue at all. If, for any reason, people do somehow achieve this odd feat and they're still *travelling and looting* regardless, then they should just toss out easily replaceable items or weigh the items they're holding with the new loot in that fancy chest they found and just exchange and forget. Absolutely zero problems and this whole conundrum with the inventory really isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

Wouldn’t be as secure as say an end chest with shulkers but point being, it makes sense to give players more inventory space to manage more misc. items that they may want, but is clogging their inventory space. Minecraft clearly has a push for exploration and building so while your play style might be to settle in one area, someone else might like to explore and keep walking just because. I know for me I do a lot of exploration first before finding a good build location. I respect the fact that you think the current inventory is fine as is, but if anything, expanding on the current system allowing for players to manage misc items better, or to store unstackables would be extremely useful. I remember back when Terraria had a max stack for some items of only 250. You would have entire chests full od dirt, mud and stone from a couple hours of mining. But they increased it to 999. This was of course better, but it was still an issue, especially since some items were still capped at only 100 or 30. So in 1.4.4 they just increased the stack limit of pretty much every stackable in the game to 9999, and it's way better! Bundles are REALLY GOOD for the early game, bundles will NOT solve the inventory problem as a whole.
My biggest problem with inventory is when building, specialy in survival, having full blocks, stairs, slabs from differents blocks is horible to manage, you may not even have enough inventory to have them all.
For exploring after a while in a world, Shulkers are REALLY GOOD, they could recieve some improvement but they were massive game changers.
That left us with the early game, it's almost imposible to play without droping items or without saving them in a chest, but bundles... Bundles are amazing to save you space in the early game, I really think they do pretty well what they were made to do.
I dont know what Mojang will do, but the inventory problem is pretty hard to solve while staying true to "vanilla". Adding some extra slots wont solve the problem from its roots.

    • @anty.
      @anty. 11 місяців тому +1

there could be a really interesting solution to this, which I'll just call "palette packs". they are like bundles, but they have multiple slots, and the caveat is that they can only contain blocks/items of the same set, with one slot for each.
For example, a palette could hold the normal, polished, wall, slab, stair etc. of a block, or all of the color variations of an item.
There could also somehow be a way of having alternate sets, such as having all wood colors of one block, or just stairs of various materials.
This kind of ties in with the other additions people have mentioned like toolbelts and quivers.
These could be future proof (kinda), as there are generally more variations of items implemented than entirely new categorizations.

Notably, 999 has been the maximum stack size for a large amount of Terraria's run time, but from what I've seen, no one has complained about the change, as it only added to convenience. I don't think bundles are inherently bad. Gave them a go in my current Minecraft Survival Series and they serve their purpose well even after the early game. I think they are pretty neat!
That being a organizer for smaller items. It's not meant for non-stackable items, which is what people are upset over, even though that isn't the point of bundles.
I think Pixlriffs said it best "Even of you increase the capacity of the bundle, you will eventually run out of space or be turned away because it only keeps one non-stackable item."
There are multiple problems with inventory and I do agree it needs to be rectified, preferably increasing the amount of spaces.
So long more items are added in updates, inventory management is going to get harder and harder, and there is no silver bullet. Not even Shulker Boxes are the end all for inventory management.
Calling bundles a failure purely because they only hold a stack of items or one non-stackable item is very pessimistic IMO.

i've never had a problem with inventory. i've only had a problem with unstackables like beds. when my inventory fills, it's usually because of junk that i dont need. my inventory is usually empty. tools from slots 1-4, food in 9th slot and water bucket in 8th slot(because hotkeys). everything else in my inventory is just silk pick, elytra, and torches, with shield or totem in my offhand. i think beds should stack to 16, but i do agree that trash like seeds should have more stack. same with signs and throwables. i think we should stop worrying about having less inventory, because it adds the aspect of sorting out inventory management in game. managing your inventory is rewarding, and i personally think shulkers are great because inventory DOES become an issue when gathering things in bulk. bundles i think will not be a faliure because when your inventory gets filled up with stuff that you dont have a lot of, but you need, you can chuck it in the bundle. i dont see an inventory issue here. just an issue with stacking items

Honestly the way I’d fix the bundles without having to change the actual inventory is probably by making them have a point system where 64 stack items take one point per item, 16 stack items take 2 points and unstackables take 4 points. The point total could be like 128, to fit exactly two stacks of normal items, or it could be 96 so it’s 1.5 stacks and you’d still have a decent inventory without completely cluttering it with blocks or bundles.

    • @SunshineRey
      @SunshineRey 11 місяців тому

@@catsdogswoof3968 the inventory problem goes beyond a stack of items. It’s multiple items littering the inventory and having space to hold just 64 basic items is messed up cause when 64 cobblestone takes the same inventory space in the bundle as a bucket of water or a signed book, the design is immediately flawed. The bundle renders all items in it unusable until taken out so only storing a stack of items, regardless of how big that stack is, will never fix the problem. We need more space and making it so the bundle acts as a good early-mid game item to hold a couple stacks of your blocks as you tunnel or just use it to hold important resources, but is strictly out classed by shulker boxes late game might help a ton.

adding more inventory slots seem like a band-aid solution imo. I much prefer if Mojang finds multiple creative ways to help with inventory issue with their own pros and cons, and players had to pick. I like having options.
It's kind of like when they added the Elytra, and it made it so Horses and Minecarts kinda went useless. I don't like having one option that's just better in every way, I want to use a horse or make a railway track depending on the situation because that makes me interact with the world and motivates me to play. The inventory issue should be taken in a similar way. I definitely agree that the sheer amount of unstackables and horrible hotbar management are the two biggest problems with the inventory, but "more slots" don't entirely fix those issues.
How about a toolbelt that you can put your tools in? Once a tool is in a toolbelt, punching a block will automatically put the correct tool for that block in your hand, and it'll go back to the belt when you let go? This way we can free up 4-5 slots from your hotbar. Or a quiver that holds arrows so you're encouraged to use lots of different types of arrows without worrying about them clogging up your inventory? Similar smart solutions can be made for stuff that you constantly have to move in an out of your hotbar: totems, potions, building blocks etc.

I quite like the bundle actually. Somethings early game you'll want to keep if you come across it. Think potatos, carrots, string, bones, etc. But while you're off mining or traveling those items take up an entire slot of inventory space. And due to the small numbers you have of each a bundle can be used to clear the inventory slots. Though they do need to add a cycle function to take things out.

I think if there was an item similar to the bundle, but with the express purpose of compressing unstackables perhaps somewhere in the range of 4-9 unstackables that, when empty, can be stacked to 64 like the bundle would maaaaaybe work???? It WOULD be really hard to communicate its purpose, though.
Like the main draw of the bundle is its portablility, have three bundles and your inventory can often stay pretty clean. But right now, the bundle is held back by its recipe and the fact that the only mobile control scheme on bedrock capable of fully using it is the most recently added one, that too few players currently use to justify having a feature designed around. It's now the current default setting, so the more new players come to bedrock, the moment those controls form maybe 30-40% of the playerbase, they would be able to implement the bundle. Those controls came out... last year.
Which is exactly why the bundle is stuck in stasis. RIP bundle, for the next 5-10 years.
I think the 64 stack does make SOME sense, too, as players have the ability to divide stacks in halves, and so an exponent of 2 feels reasonable, also numbers beyond 100 clutter the item view too much, so the limit should remain under 100. As such, 64 was probably the limit created for those reasons.

One of the main issues is the cost of the bundle. It requires 6 rabbit hides, and the default per rabbit is 0-1 hides. As I'm currently playing create above and beyond, that modpack has great inventory management. First you've got the create toolboxes, which has 8 inventory slots, but around 258 of each item in that slot. And you can access it remotely, and will always try and give you a stack of 32 in your hotbar when you select an item.
Then you have the upgradable backpack, that goes from 9 slots to like 54 slots, which can first be upgraded with just leather, then gold, and finally diamond.
Then you have the "surprisingly substantial satchel" which out the box has 72 slots, but needs some in depth exploration of it's mod pack to create.
Then you have the occultism remote storage, which can easily get 1024 slots mid game, can be accessed anywhere in the world with just one item, and works with physical item movement in loaded chunks.
And with the curios mod allowing you to wear most of these solutions outside your general inventory, I'm probably walking around with a good 2,000 slots ready to go at a moments notice.
So I open inventory with E, then I do shift E for my occult storage. Then I press B for the backpack holding tools, and shift B for my satchel holding work blocks. And then hold alt to access my toolboxes holding my most used items.
Now, obviously I don't expect vanilla Minecraft to go this extreme, but an upgradable backpack would fit the current upgrade to the smithing table. And then later when you unlock shulkers, its basically a final upgrade to the backpack, just by shulkers being themselves.

I've been playing with bundles enabled since 1.17 and I genuinely can't imagine playing the game without them now.
Sure, there's more they could do (dyeable, dispenser functionality, loot table incorporation...) but the only real issues bundles have atm are with their accessibility and interface.
Being locked behind an optional feature toggle - which itself is kinda tucked out of the way too - is bad enough already, but then these things are also a pain to get your hands on early-game (when the majority of players will find them the most useful) because rabbit hide isn't the easiest material to come across in large enough quantities for 1, let alone a couple of bundles to maximize the sheer variety items you can carry in your limited slots in 1 trip... To help fix this, I play with a custom data pack that lets you use rabbit hide or leather interchangeably to craft them - I'd highly recommend this to anyone willing to give bundles a 2nd chance.
Touching on the "loot table integration" thing from earlier; it'd be great if they generated in some overworld structure chests too, already containing a few items to both increase their likelihood of being discovered/used by players that aren't familiar with/have forgotten about them while also conveniently demonstrating exactly what they're used for.
As for the UI; I actually find it's current implementation for putting-in and taking-out items quite intuitive... the problem is when you have a full inventory (so no temporary dumping-slots) and the item you need is burried a few too many slots deep in the bundle. I think the easiest fix for this would be to just let us keep the bundle contents window open in the inventory while holding either shift or ctrl so we can hover over and select a specific item - closing the window when the desired item is grabbed, or shift/ctrl is released.

I think the only reason you'd need a bigger inventory is when you're transporting a lot of items from one place to another. When you're out exploring you have to be prepared to pick your loot and not just grab everything without thought. The best way to transport items now is shulker plus elytra which I think is alright but I have an idea. Instead of just adding more slots to the inventory, buffing minecarts would be a greater choice, specifically dealing with chest minecarts or even the furnace minecarts. Someone else suggested this but connecting minecarts with chains would be quite amazing. Using this feature players can create railway systems and be able to transport items from one place to another. Not only that but chests can also hold shulker boxes so it doesn't get obsolete. For me the only things that I would count as a problem is when something is too tedious. Managing my own inventory is fun is really fun for me. Transporting some items is a hassle most of the time but with this chained minecarts feature the process would become not only useless but also fun. It also means that railway system might return to the meta. Theres no need to adjust the inventory you just need to be creative and maybe solve your own problem for once by managing your own inventory.

I've always loved the "backpacks" that The Mining Dead mod introduced to Minecraft.
Incredibly easy to use - simply have on in the hotbar, hold it and right click, and it'll open an inventory screen for the bag! The bags have different amount of slots (5, 10, 20) depending on how rare the bag is, which in vanilla Minecraft could just reflect the expensiveness of the crafting recipe. They were also able to be stacked so long as they were completely empty and couldn't hold any other bags inside of them. They also had lots of different appearances so it was very easy to visually sort them into item categories!
If something like this were to be introduced to vanilla Minecraft then I would be using it CONSTANTLY.

Honestly, this is why a Terraria (no hate intended to Minecraft) player has no inventory problems.
You have 50 inventory slots, 10 of which are for the hotbar.
And you also have 4 ammo and 4 coin slots.
But the real deal is the junk slot. It gives the player the ability to dispose of trash. If you accidentally put a valuable item in there, don't worry, items are only disposed of when you put anorher item atop of former on the junk slot.
From 1.4.4 forward, we have loadouts, to alternate between different loadouts, armors and accessories. You can have 3 loadouts at a time.
We also have two ender chests, the safe and the defender's forge, and they have indipendent inventory from each other. Lastly we have two easily accessible handheld shulker boxes: the piggy bank and the void vault, which, again, have indipendent inventory from each other.
Other than from the piggy bank and the void vault, i think Minecraft can also benefit from a junk slot to eliminate from your inventory useless junk, though I think trash isn't as much of a hassle in Minecraft.
P.s.: i forgot about the encumbering stone, an item which stops you from picking up items from the ground.
27/12/23:Also i forgot to mention that most items in terraria except tools and stuff can be stacked up to 9999

I have an idea to fix (help) the inventory issue. I call it
    Inventory Upgrader
There are 3 stages, for early, middle, and late game.
Stage 1. 10 extra slots. Instea did just slapping them on there, we could make a sort of side bar on the end of the right side they when you click it, opens a mini tab of sorts where you can put items.
Stage 2. 20 slots. Same as the last one.
    Stage 3. 36 slots.
And they don’t add on each other, just increase the amount. So go from 10 more slots to 20 and from 20 to 36 extra slots. The worse the upgrade, the cheaper. And you can only craft 1 of each per game.
Not perfect, but I think it could help.

First off, I think it should be a separate item that can hold unstackables. Otherwise, it just becomes kind of confusing communicating the stack limit of the bundle.
I think a good carry value is indeed 3 or 4. Probably 4, since it would allow you to carry a full suit of armor and it's an exponent of 2. If you carry 2-3 of them, you can massively prolong the time you spend out in the world exploring. In combination with the bundle and with shulker boxes to take care of bulk items like dirt or stone, the time you can be out exploring gets truly ridiculous.

Terraria too faces inventory issues but theirs is way worse because they have 5078 unique items (Source: terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Item_IDs ). They continuously increased stack sizes from 100x items per stack up to 250, 999 and most recently 9999. They doubled the size of all chests. They added vanity item slots for storing unstackable items as well as 3 equipment loadouts (basically triple the slots). They added ammo/coin slots. They added three "Ender Chests", two being easily accessible on the fly without "placing down" and one that fills automatically when your inventory is full. They made nearly all items stackable. But guess what: the inventory STILL fills up to the brim!
This shows that resolving Minecraft's inventory issues requires at least similarly drastic changes, however this would destroy the way how Minecraft Survival feels. Bundles as "trash collectors"? An "Ammo" slot? Tools, weapons and armor become unbreakable? Increased max stack sizes for all items? An early game Ender Chest that is also more fluent to use? These things are clearly not gonna happen!
I personally like the way how the inventory is very limited. It adds to the experience and makes you think twice on what items you REALLY need. It adds another level of "difficulty", which makes it fun to work with. I don't think it would need big changes, however I think it's sad the Bundles didn't make it because in some cases they can be useful, especially when exploring.
Also, 9:33 you watch too much Peenix! 😂

    • @RePorpoised
      @RePorpoised 11 місяців тому +1

Let's be honest, we are all inspired by that guy, he's great fun.
But yeah, limited inventory is part of minecraft. by having such an inventory, players NEED to store things, and around those storages spots, they'll build structures that they can return to. It sort of feeds back into the game loop. The thing that people hate though, is when they have to do it far too frequently.
As you showed with terraria, ReLogic just dropped a nuke on the issue whenever started rising, but minecraft definitely wants to be more careful about it. The real limitations of the bundle, their latest fix, is:
      1) its crafting recipe
      2) bedrock mobile controls (they need more players to use the new control scheme)
      3) that it needs a partner item to exist: an item to compress unstackables
The last clearly doesn't exist yet. but with the way Mojang has compartmentalized the issues of inventory, it is likely to come into existence eventually. With such an item, exploring can last an incredible amount of time, with the proper management of the inventory. Such an item would probably be limited to just a few slots, because it means that your inventory can be multiplied by that amount. Honestly, this items screams END GAME ITEM. It would need to be not TOO difficult to obtain, but still hard to get in bulk. Just imagine if each slot could store 8 unstackables, condensing the inventory would get ridiculous. Multiple sets of tools, armor, totems and other would be possible to carry with you with ease.
Thinking about it, 8 might be too powerful. 4, then? I think an item carrying 4 unstackables could work...

I think it would be best if the inventory could be upgraded mid game to double the slots, while at the same time tweaking the stack sizes of common stuff so one stack holds more. For example, I would increase dirt, sand and the different types of stones stacksizes to 256. Arrows to 1024, redstone and lapislazuli to 128. While reducing the stack sizes of precious stuff like diamonds or similar to 16.
Another QOL thing would be to be able to summon or call something that you can give it items and it will take those items home, but without having to physically path all the way to your home. For example imagine an item that summoned a villager with a cart that you give him items that you want to store but don't want to carry around, and when you give him the items and pay him he disappears, then you can call him at home and retrieve the items.

I think Quark Oddities' crate block is exactly what we need. Basically, it can hold up to 640 items, but each item in a typical stack will take up 1 point of space, making unstackables the best items to put inside.
If unstackables take up so much space, then a storage device (not necessarily a block) made specifically for these items would be a godsend. I think that all of the "failed" storage solutions have a place, but feel incomplete without all the other components. Enderchest for private storage, shulkers for extra raw slots, bundles for incomplete stacks (I personally would prefer 128 or more "slots" in bundles, but that's just me), and a 4th item for storing unstackables.
On that note, I agree that increasing stack sizes in general would be the biggest and most impactful change here since it indirectly buffs all of the aforementioned storage solutions as well.

Here's an idea! Early game, you're gonna stay by your base often while youre farming wheat, raising cows and sheep, and mining for diamonds. Inventory isn't that big of a problem because you have easy and convenient access to mass storage.
After this though, you'll start running into the inventory issue.
With 4 strings in the corners, iron ingots to the left and right, leather top and bottom, and a chest in the middle, you could craft a backpack. This backpack would be worn in place of your chest plate like the Elytra is. Trade protection for mobility, or trade protection for carry capacity. If you take off the backpack, you drop all the items it was carrying (since bundles seem more than happy to throw your stuff on the floor anyway).
When it comes to late game, you'll start replacing your backpack with elytra, shulker boxes, and your faithful ender chest. 27 shulkers in an ender chest is a massive upgrade in carry capacity, sacrificing some convenience. It's not that bad tbh.
In addition to this backpack, you could have your increased item capacity numbers and higher capacity bundles as well.
Bundles should be able to hold up to 18 unstackable items, or up to 256 stackable items.
Seeds could be bumped to 256, while common blocks like stone, dirt, gravel, grass, netherrack, basalt, blackstone, deepslate, etc could stack to 128. Resource blocks, like diamond, gold, emerald, etc, could stay at 64 since most people wont have many of those available, and for those that do have them it's a trivial issue storing those blocks.
Additionally, who said chests had to be 3x9 slots? Why not make chests 6x9, and double chests 12x9 with a scroll bar? It would certainly help lag issues for the industrious folk who build massive redstone storage machines like myself

In my opinion they are missing out on an enchant. I dont recall which mod adds that but there is an enchant called `(something) pockets` that you can put on your pants (we literally have no enchants for pants in base game so this would be a good opportunity). There would be 3 levels: lvl1 adds 9extra slots in your inventory, lvl2 adds 18 and lvl3 adds 27. This seems balanced an would help on solving inventory issue.
Also, why don't we have actual backpack item that we can equip? Its not like they need to add an extra slot for it (tho it would be nice), but it would be something that for balancing reasons need to choose to equip either chestplate, elytra or backpack.
Another thing which they can implement that would work with last idea is special slots for some unstackable items. Add a slot for backpack, heck if not backpack, then at least bundle, slot for totem of undying or really anything that might be useful and would add points to solving inventory problems

i have an idea of how to make bundles usefull in the way we need it. We dont want junk in our inventory while walking around. Junk for everyone at the different stages of the game is considered as something else from seeds, flowers, plants to cobblestone, stone, sticks. So i think these bundles could work like this:
    - u could put up to 18 (2x9 space) types of items there
    - the bundle would pick up only the items u put at least one inside of them
    - u need to have the bundle in ur inventory so it will pick up these items u chosen before
    - when u d be picking an item these specific things would travel to the bundle so everything s in one place
In this case we could put there stuff we "dont want to collect" to actually collect them in one place so it could be easier and quicker for us to get rid of. Also, we could use this for other stuff. For example when we dont know where our item has fallen, we put the exact same in the bundle, we go around and check if the thing we were looking for travels there

3 simple solutions to the inventory problem:
    1. Make chiseled bookshelves silk-touchable, which will allow for multiple enchanted books and/or books and quills to be held in one inventory slot. When a chiseled bookshelf is mined with silk touch, it keeps the books inside it as nbt data.
    2. Make bundles store items logarithmically. Basically, items which are worth 4 items (items stackable as 16) are now worth 2 items and items that are 64 items (unstackable items) are now worth let's say 6 or 8 items. Also make them far easier to obtain, as rabbit hides are an incredibly obscure item and getting the necessary 6 hides for a bundle requires players to kill on average 12 rabbits (without looting), which is a big issue as rabbits only spawn in really obscure biomes.
    3. I once saw a suggestion for a "copper crate" - a toolbox type of item that let's you store a certain number of certain items, e.g. 4 pickaxes, shovels, swords, etc.
