  • In this video I compare the 2023 Chevy Colorado Z71 and the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 options, features, and pricing. With the new generation right around the corner, the Colorado Z71 and Canyon AT4 are likely to be very popular among shoppers. Several features that were formerly standard on all Z71 trucks are no longer and the AT4 starts out very nicely equipped however at a higher price tag. With the Canyon receiving the widebody, lift, and 2.7L HO tune, this makes the base AT4 a very compelling trim in my opinion. If you are not seeking the widebody, lift, and tune then I would say the Colorado Z71 Convenience II or III would give you better bang for the buck in the mid to upper $40k price range.

    Great overview. I think you may have missed one point though. I really wanted a truck with the aesthetic of a Trail Boss with the amenities of a Z71, but wasn't willing to give up the towing capacity of 7,700 lbs or the MPG to go up to a ZR2 (although I would love the lockers). You can't outfit a Trail Boss with all of the options of a Z71 unfortunately so my choice was to buy a Z71 and lift it, or buy a AT4...which has everything. So I went with an AT4, which has a little more options than a Z71, has the offroad capabilities (and aggressive look) of the Trail Boss (2" lift and +3" wheel spacing)...and comes standard with the HO tune. For me at least it was the best of all worlds and when you added in all of the upgrades I would need to do to a Z71 to get it 95% of the way to the AT4 (2" lift, wheel spacers, HO tune), it was only about $1.5k more. Oh, and as a bonus the interior looks better too.

    If you skipped over the 2023 Pro4x and are seriously considering a Z71 or AT4, you own it to yourself to test drive the Pro4x before pulling the trigger. This is exactly the situation I was in, I was all set to buy a fully loaded Canyon AT4 at $52k, but I decided to test drive the Pro4x at the last minute. Long story short, I wound up purchasing a fully loaded Pro4x Premium for $45k. Full disclosure, I previously owned a 2nd gen Frontier which I loved, so I am a fan of the Nissan platform, but I initially overlooked the Pro4x because I assumed it was not on par with the redesigned GM twins. I was wrong. This Pro4x is probably my favorite vehicle I've ever owned...I love how it drives and the overall confident feel of the truck. It's just the right balance between old school and modern. If you are in the market for a midsize truck, don't make assumptions about the Frontier like I did. I got an amazing truck and saved $7000!

      I have been cross shopping the pro4x and my hold backs are 430 lbs of torque from GM vs the 281 of the nissan is a big gap. I do have two enclosed trailers that I occasionally tow (16ft aluminum and 20 ft steel frame). Even though the tow rating on the nissan is up there I suspect the extra 150 ft lbs of torque is really going to show up with the GM trucks. Also nissan doesn't have a integrated brake controller. I have installed prodigy controllers in the past and they work great but I have a '19 F250 with the integrated controller and it nice to not have something aftermarket and be able to program through the dash lcd. The camera and infotainment system on the nissan also is outdated. Everytruck has its strong and weak points and the lack of turbo worries, good looks, and solid drivetrain of the nissan are compelling.

    I originally ordered a ZR2. But changed my order as I liked the look of the exterior better of the AT4. So I ordered a fully loaded minus sunroof of a AT4 and it was only 3K difference between a loaded ZR2. I figure I'll eventually change out the suspension on the AT4.

      Just want to add that the Canyon comes with a forced 3-year OnStar subscription which adds $1500. It's like the don't want to sell them, most will see that and go straight to the Colorado! Who wants to pay for OnStar?

      The AT4 is sharp! I will have a video taking a look at one in person here in the next day or two. As a whole (inside and out) I believe I like the Canyon better but the Colorado isn't far behind like Chevy has been to GMC in some vehicles over the years.

      @@matth3wc meh. Whatever.

  • @matth3wc
    @matth3wc Рік тому +6

    Some other things I noticed that are different:
    The Canyon has a forced 3-year OnStar subscription that adds $1500 when comparing to the Colorado.
    The Canyon has a body colored rear bumper and led marker lights above the wheel wells.
    The interior is Soft-touch, someone tapped the interior of the trail boss and it was hard plastic. Chevy doesn't list that on any trim level but I'd be surprised if the ZR2 or Z71 didn't have Soft-touch.
    And lastly the Canyon has a bit more leather stitching on the door panel and dash along with carbon fiber inserts.
    One thing I would have ordered on my AT4 but it was so ridiculously priced was cargo lights. $350 for the lights but then you have to get the accessory power distribution box for like $480. So about 850 dollars in total. Complete BS. It used to only cost 200 more for LED cargo lights.
    Which brings up another point, for some reason you can't get the cargo lights on the Z71 but it seems all other Colorado trims you can. Not sure why they'd do that.
    There are also 2 little things standard on the canyon that you can get separately on the Colorado. The plastic wheel arch moldings can be added along with an plastic engine cover. Bose sound system is forced with a Colorado package but the Canyon, you can get fully loaded without Bose oddly enough.

    • @mhardy006

      @@mhardy006 the 24's won't have it (thank goodness. But all 23's do, it won't show up as a separate charge on the window sticker. It's part of the base price. If it didn't come with OnStar you would see the deduction on the sticker.
