I had a sparring partner that was VERY good at timing this kick and not telegraphing it - had me on the mat gasping for air more times than I care to admit - he always used the heel, and he always aimed for the thoracic diaphragm. It was the complete extention of the leg - that extra push described in the video that did it, I'm convinced. Get the wind truly knocked out - fight is over.

Great tutorial. I am practicing this kick daily and using it in sparring often. I'm finding it very easy to land off of a punch (since I am obviously in range).

I recently started watching all of your tutorials, and I have to say you have cleared up a LOT of the technical questions I've had about certain kicks. I can see almost an instant improvement on my technique when performing these kicks. Now that I have the right technique, I can continue to grow as a student! Thank you for the informative Tutorials and keep them coming! :D

My advice would be to practice your jump without the kick to strengthen your legs, plus you will learn how to take off and land on the ground safely. Most people struggle with jump spin kicks because of the amount they have to think and do during them. Practicing this way will give you awareness, stronger legs and a safer take off and landing until you are ready to add the kick. Hope that helps and good luck :)

  • @GingerNinjaTrickster

It can do yes. Normally you will have a slight bend in your punches and kicks but it is very minimal and your leg should be extended close to full for better range and maximum power :)

It's a good kick and that's true but when you are at a high level, the person you are against are very skilled too so it is quite risky for them to try in MMA, hence why it's rarely used. Good luck with your training :)
