The last clip about PS2 emulation, Ayn Odin and Retroid Pocket 4 Pro really got me thinking about what I want in a handheld.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I see your point regarding actual pocketable handhelds like the Retroid Pocket 4. I might order one for review tbh.

Honestly, I try to strike a balance between shoving as much quality as I can, while not being stuck editing a single clip for days on end. I want to provide good content for you dudes.
One thing that has to be mentioned is that the USB port on the side (when in landscape) has problems with power delivery. For example the GameSir G8 isn’t being charged by it which means you have to connect the USBC on the bottom too, for power.
This is a non-issue, considering that this is a Bluetooth controller. :)
I'm at late 34, and one of the reason I held off from buying handhelds (aside from the price) is that I don't know how long the thing gonna last. Battery is my main concern, second would be reparability in case the controller breaks. Right now I'm using my mid range phone with a controller. Sometimes I'm using my T618 powered tablet if I want bigger screen (the y700 is in my wishlist for years now).
Best part of choosing this route us that, in case either the phone or controller breaks, I can just replace with cheaper price. Arguably it's inferior against handhelds, but, as long as I can play, it's OK for me.
I totally share your thoughts, but there's a couple of things I would add (which I found along the way):
- most of these simple handhelds (think Miyoo Mini Plus or the Anbernic RG35XX H) use fairly generic 2pin connector batteries, so in theory replacing the batteries should be as easy as getting a couple of them off AliExpress.
- durability wise, it's a mixed bag really. Many reviewers say that the Miyoo Mini Plus is super fragile, but I've dropped my black one plenty times and the darn thing gives me OG Gameboy durability vibes though. On the other me hand, there's a lot of reports of them cracking fairly easily, so maybe I'm just lucky.
- you can't go wrong with your setup, so don't necessarily feel any pressure to change it if you enjoy it. Playing PS2 is a mixed bag on most of the Android handhelds still, while midrange phones and up can usually breeze through them.
- honestly, I'm a big proponent for these dumber (and cheaper) Linux handhelds, rather than the fancier Android ones. I'd get a Miyoo Mini Plus as an entry device if you just want to play the old consoles. (Ps1 and below).

@@VladNerd Thanks for the tip! sadly my country blocked almost all foreign marketplace some months ago. Aliexpress don't even have the option to ship to Indonesia right now. Hopefully this changes soon.
I did find authorized stores of some Chinese manufacturers here. Might consider to get the RG556 when I get the chance.

Plus the size and screen ratio make it better that skinny phones for ds/3ds, albeit oversized.
Pretty sweet idea. I was thinking that same thing, the problem is that tablet is $500 US and it's from China only, at least here in the US. I wish it would be available on Amazon. Plus, I would not be using that controller. The Game sir G8 is the best right now on the market. Btw, I have the Odin2 and love it but not pocketable so my RP 4 pro is on it's way.
Gen plus 1+. Gen 1 is the crappy overheating one. Plus you didn't mention the most underrated feature: battery bypass. You can run it off a powerbank/PowerPoint without have to charge the battery meaning less battery wear.

I dunno if my comment got deleted cause I linked something, but what about those budget tablets from aliexpress that go for around $70 to $100? I don't have $300 to drop and I saw one that looked promising, but I know how Aliexpress can be sometimes. I was looking around and I also saw that lots of people like the iplay tablet but it has a helio chip which from my own phone having one I know can be sorta ehhhh.
You are right. I spend way too much on video games. Tbh I should just buy digital for my switch or not buy one in the first place and just save for a good mini PC or a good tablet like you did. Would saved so much money. I have 160 or so all physical but at least I am not spending anymore on this hobby 👍. And let's not talk about what I got on steam & gog lmao.

It's awesome to be pragmatic about things, but don't ever feel bad for investing in what gives you pleasure.
I have a retro mini collection in a storage locker somewhere (still renting and jumping from place to place, do unfortunately carrying them around is a chore until I get a place of my own).
I never regret investing in them. Just looking at them and not even playing them makes me feel better.

Odin 2 is definitely the best Android handheld
It's cuz no one else can make a handheld with top of the line snapdragon. But rp4 pro is totally enough for game cube and ps2

Thanks for the compliment! Never had the Tab S9, so can't directly compare. I will say this however: The Lenovo Legion Y700 2023 is literally the only 8.8inch (Android) tablet with flagship specs, so if you want a tablet that size that also packs a punch, there's really no other alternative. :)
hi the tab s9+ is better with a 12inch screen snapdragon 8 gen 2 and bigger battery

I am going for this tablet. Is there a drawback to getting the 12gb Ram version instead of the 16gb one? If i will never use the extra Ram, might as well get the cheaper one. What is your opinion on this? I do not think i actually need the extra storage space, 256gb should enough for me.
Honestly, 12gb is overkill as it is. I wouldn't go for the 16gb one.

La tablette dans le clip est la Lenovo Legion Y700 2023. Je ne veux pas en faire trop d'éloges, mais c'est à peu près la meilleure tablette Android de 8 pouces que vous puissiez obtenir actuellement.
C'est génial pour pratiquement tout type d'émulation que vous lui lancez. Il fait de la PS2 à une résolution 3x avec un anticrénelage maximal, ainsi qu'une émulation Nintendo Switch (ici, vous êtes plus limité par ce que Yuzu peut faire, pour être honnête, car l'émulateur a arrêté son développement à cause de Nintendo).
Globalement, c'est objectivement un des meilleurs achats que j'ai fait. Si vous souhaitez l'acheter, j'ai un lien dans la description de la vidéo (c'est un lien d'affiliation).
Veuillez également ignorer les fautes de frappe. J'utilise Google Translate pour ce message. Mon français n'est certainement pas le meilleur. 😆

J'ai une ambernic RG351V avec je joue aux jeux playstation 1, cependant elle ne peut pas emuler la playstation 2, donc j'ai cherché des reviews sur la ambernic rg556 qui émule la playstation 2, et aussi samsung tab a9, cependant j'ai vu que des reviews ne m'ont pas convaincus par exemple je trouve que la rg556 n'a pas de bon graphisme, et bug. Et la TAB a9 j'ai vu des mauvais commentaire. Là je regarde des vidéos sur cette lenovo y700 et j'ai vu la tienne ! C'est pour cela je te demande si elle est bien ou non 😂 tu a deja emuler des jeux ps2 comme gta san andrea, bully, the gateaway ? Il y a des freezes ? Les graphismes sont bons ?, thank you pour ta reponse ton français est très bien 😀

Absolument aucun ralentissement ni gel. Le Y700 2023 maximise à peu près tous les paramètres graphiques de tous les jeux que j'ai essayés (résolution 3X pour une meilleure clarté d'image, filtrage anisotrope 16x + anti-aliasing). Il fera tout ce que vous lui proposerez en rapport avec la PS2 + la plupart des jeux Nintendo Switch que j'ai essayés fonctionnent bien (tant que l'émulateur Yuzu les prend en charge). :)
Ce que vous devriez également vous procurer, c'est un contrôleur télescopique, comme le BSP D8 ou le BSP D9 (vous pouvez également les trouver sur Aliexpress, j'ai le lien pour le D8 et la tablette dans la description).
En fin de compte, tout est une question de préférence. Très probablement, votre téléphone pourrait exécuter la PS2 sans problème (à condition que vous soyez sous Android), mais jouer sur un écran 16:10 de 8,8 pouces est une expérience totalement différente.

If you like PS2 emulation, forget Android. The emulator is out of development and compatibility is far from perfect...
Ideally, I would love pcsx2 on Windows for Arm or an arm-based Linux distro, but we can't have that yet, manufacturers still ain't too hot on arm laptops. :(
PS2 emulation really eats battery life on x86 compared to arm stuff (that's why I'm doing it on Android).
I do see this issue being way less noticeable in the future, though.

@@nomnom9110 it does, and immensely good I would say. I have no problem running everything at 3x resolution, with anti-aliasing enabled (pretty much maxed out settings) ❤️

True, but you do gain in other areas, like screen size, battery life and overall flexibility (multi-purpose device). Like with everything in this segment, there's always a trade-off. 😄

@@eiceys4612 good idea. I'll do it when the HDMI dock arrives. AliExpress slowed down due to their Chinese new year, the dock is probably chilling and shittalking with other packages in a warehouse somewhere still. 😄
I went back to check the video because I forgot the name of the tablet 😂. My next device will most likely be a tablet. Does this one has any case for it or a stand or something? Also what do you think about the red magic phones? Smaller screen but I think for that price is the best thing you can get for retro emulation on Android.

AliExpress also has cases for it, just make sure to get one for the "y700 2023" model. There's also a 2022 model that's weaker, and cases are not interchangeable between the two models.
I'm also eye-ing the red magic 9 pro, but apparently there's some manufacturing issues with the fan that can't be fixed through OTA. I'd wait for them to release a "9s" version of it. :)
Also, the Legion Y700 2023 will also soon be released to global markets, but it'll be roughly two times the price than the model on AliExpress, so imo ordering from Ali is still the way to go.
