when you talked about retroids launcher you said that ps2 wont load from the launcher. that is a problem with all frontends have when dealing with athersx2 not just the retroid launcher, im not sure about citra but athesx2 just doesnt work with frontends. there is a community made patch called NetherSX2 that allows frontend compatibility.

Nintendo did actually just send you parts back in the day. When I was 13 I got the GBA when it launched then immediately got the screen punched in by some kid at summer camp. I just sent Nintendo a well worded letter, then 2 weeks later they sent me a screen repair kit and a thank you for spending my hard earned allowance on Nintendo products... For free. To a 13 year old. Addressed to his bunk at summer camp.

Honestly, if a company responded within a day with "we're sending a replacement part immediately," no shipping charge, no other hassle, I'd actually be pretty happy. That seems fine, that seems like a nice standard to just implement widely.
Yeah Retroid is pretty good about this, but after getting replacement parts for every Retroid device I've bought (due to hardware failure out of the box, including screens, thumbsticks etc) I feel like I should be on payroll with how often I'm reassembling their products. That being said I had to RMA my first steam deck for screen and non-functional LB, so...
I'll comment on my experience, I fucked up and broke my screen on my Flip by sitting on it wrong. Was my bad, so I asked how to go about replacing it. Two emails, 35 dollars, and 1 week later I was sent a video and a new screen which took 5 minutes to replace. Fantastic customer service.
It's a hobbyist brand. So I don't think it's a big deal to have us repair things ourselves if they're willing to send us the parts free of charge. But of course give the option for a free replacement.
Yeah, he really seemed to be complaining and then a second later was like "Yeah and they responded in 30 minutes, are active on socials and address problems but I didn't get it the next day so it's bad customer service." Also the reason there's more "work" to put emulators and games on the device is because it pulls liability away from they and puts it on us as customers. A company can be sued easily but hundreds of thousands of individual people can't be. You'd think he'd know that? I'm actually really disappointed with his lack of knowledge and real baseless complaints considering the track record of the company, their customer support and the fact that their relatively new and one a few leaders in the market.

I bought the RP3 and when they released the RP3+ shortly after... my heart sunk...
think it's worth mentioning that the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro probably isn't going to be replaced instantly and they've learned their lesson from the 3 and 3+, because they announced the 4 Pro and weaker 4 at the same time and sold the 4 Pro first.
This is why I'm waiting to see if they do a metal version, or maybe a pro+, you never know with Retroid.

@@bson5192 I have the Odin 1 Pro. I went through the Deck Oled, the ROG Ally and the Legion Go. I am rolling with a Galaxy Fold now. When it comes to emulation and remote play. Android is the way to go.
I think that's a correct buy. I can really only suggest retroid pocket 4 or pro if price is a factor or you just like the form factor along with pocketability. As the Odin 2 also has an official dock that could just quite simply make it function as a desktop computer as well. @bson5192

Even though Mr. Wulff often says things in the heat of the moment and doesn't always research before speaking, I want to give him credit for being one of the most honest handheld reviewers on UA-cam. Kudos for always saying exactly what you think.
Ya know what’s crazy, I have literally never had an issue with quality on Retroid products. I’ve preordered multiple times and they’ve all come out of the box with zero problems. Even with the 2+ (and I preordered that bad boy the DAY it became available), it still was flawless. So weird how they’re this spotty.
Great video! I bought a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro a couple weeks ago and waiting for it to be delivered. I've heard mostly good things about it, but I'm really looking forward to setting it up. Having decent GameCube and PS2 emulation in a smaller handheld device was a huge draw for me. I have a feeling I'm going to really like this thing!
Its better then all this reviews show. Ps2 emulation with vulkan and minor tweaks at 2x is almost perfect

@@gabrielvasquez9284 I've only tried a handful of GameCube games but they all have run pretty well so far. The controls take some getting used to on the device if you're used to an actual GameCube controller, but other than that, it is pretty awesome! Playing GameCube games does seem to drain the handheld's battery faster than more lightweight systems, though, so just keep that in mind.
You may also just need to check a compatibility list if there is a certain game you want to play as I've heard certain games require additional tweaks to run properly.

I have the Retroid Pocket 2+ and I am pretty happy with it. I didn't do extensive testing on it and I don't play it super often, but it works well for my purposes. I mostly play GBA Fire Emblem games, but I have played other games with little to no issues.

I bought the RP3+ a couple of months before Retroid announced the new 4/4Pro, I was bummed but then I realized I just use my RP3+ to play GBA and PSP games because childhood 😅 right now I’m p,aying kindgom hearts for the ps2 and I love it, I don’t need the new version, maybe I will get the 5 or the 6 idk

The game pad tester app is wrong, everyone’s right trigger doesn’t work correct in that app. You have to use the game pad tester through the settings(it might be the calibration thing can’t remember)
However R2 trigger does have a defect in the weak spring and it breaks. That's why they're replacing it with a whole new backplate with an improved spring. They've stated anything shipped after 1/31 was fixed.
@@phinyo2066yes the triggers have issues with breaking however this video is not highlighting that problem. You can see in this video that both of his triggers work as he presses them down. Its just the pad tester app he’s using is bugged

@@ZyloWolfBane_Based on the Retroid’s Chinese announcement on that issue, it could be just the first batch of the trigger springs they got from supplier contains defected ones. They claim it will only affect a tiny number of rp4 pros and it’s super easy to replace since the backplate isn’t connected to the board by any wires. So don’t worry too much about
I'm not the only one to believe I got a different colour to the one I ordered then... I'm sure I clicked for black and ended with 16bit, I hate it... Gotta say this is the most honest, realistic video on the Rp4 pro I've watched, kudos for not sniffing Retroids arse!

Just got mine two days ago, have been very impressed. No problems with the RT, yet lol. Metal Gear 3 and Peacewalkers were two of the first games I tested, both run beautifully! Midnight Club 3 on PS2 runs great with slight 2-3 fps drops here and there. Only game I've really had issues with is Sly 2, but that's notorious for bad emulation, even on PC. Was able to get stable 40-45 fps with some settings tweaks but still was noticeable enough to be a tough experience. Played through about half of Luigi's Mansion without the RT giving out on me yet.
As always Bob I appreciate your honesty. I only have one Retroid product but after watching your video I'm slightly paranoid about whether or not all my buttons work, so I'm going to test each one tonight. :)

Its far better than the previous iterations of RP's, of which I have a couple. I have been playing Wii games on it so it goes past just GameCube for playable performance. You can 2x most GameCube games on it and nearly 2x PS2 (1.75x). Sometimes the problem is not the hardware it can be the emulator, some were really geared for certain chipsets, of which the RP's isn’t really one. If this was a snapdragon I think there would be less issues with compatibility, but it would cost a heck of a lot more. Russ at Retro Game Corps did a great walkthrough and setup video for those interested, it’s also good for tips to get the best out of it. I received my RP4 Pro at the beginning of Feb and have been playing lots of different types of games on it including native Android, its exceeded my expectations, though I find the form factor and size can cramp your hands after a while, may look into the grip they sell. I don’t know why they don’t incorporate the grip design into the console itself.

Something that I don't see much is how BAD the screen can look. It's supposed to be the same one as the 3+, but the firmware must be buggy because it has a lot more ghosting, magenta trails on high contrast zone (like Game Box, with black on white) and the V-Sync is broken, so there's stuttering evey few seconds that can be quite annoying. It's probably things that can be solved with an OTA update (could also be bad panels, who knows), but keep that in mind.

I ordered and got a Retroid Pocket 2s a few months back that came with a (known, according to other reviews) problem with the screen... Haven't had the time to complain to them yet as part of me knows they will send me parts and say fix it yourself.
They really need to work on QA as the device is good otherwise, just sucks came faulty.
Not sure if worth hassle in long run as i agree with Bob stuff shouldn't come broken in the first place & then be told fix it yourself!

I'm tempted to get a RP3+, mainly because I'm more interested on PSP emulation, maybe Dreamcast as the heaviest system, but I'll definitely wait a few months to see how the RP4Pro turns out after some of the kinks get ironed out.
Didn't the 3 or 3+ include the rubber membrane at first because it shipped with dome?? Not that it was prone to having a broken home button? I remember that Taki complained about that quite a bit the rubber membrane was gone...
Yes. This isn’t the first time I’ve caught a bit of misinfo in one of bobs videos. It’s why I don’t subscribe. I find retro game corps and taki udon to be far more in depth. For want of a better term I regard this as a “normie” tech review channel.
I just received my RP4 pro just a few days ago. So far, there was no issue. My only concern is that the display has a green tint that is fixed on the software side. I don't know if it'll have long-term consequences. Also, I wish it had bypass/pass through charging; high performance mode is really taxing on battery.
Considering Ayn has access to Snapdragon and the upcoming Pocket S will use one as well, hopefully the next RP will have a Snapdragon.
ive been using the rg35xx + and im loving it, I'm planning to bring it to PAX east this year as my only console. Though I wish it could play dreamcast just a little bit better, I would love the form factor of the xx+ and the power of the pocket 4 XD

I've still got my RP3+ which is good enough for me to play from Master System to PSP and Gamecube. Yeah the button layouts are rubbish but it'll do for now, so it's not worth the upgrade yet until Retroid or Anbernic finally release a handheld that is absolutely capable of smooth PS2 gameplay at full FPS.
The only that can do without problems is the Odin 2!😊
I also had problems with the triggers, I'm waiting for them to send a replacement backplate as they said, thank you for the sincerity of your review you were one of the few who mentioned this serious problem and for 200 dollars this shouldn't happen, I value my money

Just 2 days ago i was recommended a review video on the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and to my amazement it handles Wii, GameCube, and PS2 games pretty well. I have been waiting for something that can handle that plus DS 3DS Vita and PSP games all for an affordable price. After watching a few more reviews from other people i determined that i wanted one and will order it right after Chinese New Year since Retroid isn’t shipping until after the holiday. The second i saw your tweet about this i immediately hoped on UA-cam to watch because even after watching at least 5 hours on this item I will always watch your tech reviews because i trust your opinion on items. Haven’t led me astray yet and i cant wait to see what you say. Thank you Bob.
Can I ask what makes you interested in this over getting a steamdeck and having a wider range of emulators?

I think a steam deck starts at 400 bucks (could be wrong) and this is half the price and I believe, most if not all the games I’m interested in playing work fairly well on the 4 pro. Dont get me wrong if I could get a steam deck for 200 bucks I’d be all over it haha.

I know that you said best bang for your buck, but what would you buy if you were going to plunk down some cash on something that you knew was going to not be janky or potentially broke in some way. Because I’m gonna be square, I want to buy one and just have a good experience with one of this style of device and I just can’t justify a steam deck even if it would be the most powerful computer I’ve ever owned.

Does this come ready, out of the box, prefilled with all the good games ready to be played? Or do I need to plug it into a computer and drag/drop games onto it?
Don’t use pre-installed emulators. Dolphin especially have had some insane improvements when it comes to emulation on Android the last year. Learn how to tweak your settings. With four different changes you could easily play Metroid Prime 1, Eternal Darkness and F-Zero GX with no framedrops even on the 3+.

I'd love to see a handheld PC that small and running Linux so i can play smaller steam games on it. I love my ANbernic RG405M but i hate that its android and not full linux.
Lots of screen issues from the initial batches. Lines on the screen or shadowing.
As much as I want a retroid pocket 4 I feel like spending a little bit extra for a Steam deck would be a better deal considering it does everything this can do and much more. Makes it a hard sell.

to anyone looking at this review recently after 3 to 4 months, they have fixed the trigger issue and they have also fixed the screen problem too! I got my unit recently after chinese new year and its amazing with no issues at all.
You says "Slight spec bump", check the benchmarks:
Antutu 10: RP3+: 272.445 RP4Pro: 756.061 That's 2.77 times better performance.
GeekBench 6: RP3+: 1.465 RP4Pro: 3.343 That's 2.28 times better performance.
ComputeScore: RP3+: 1.041 RP4Pro: 4.704 That's 4.51 times better performance.
You just can't be taken seriously this way.

Why do I have so much unluck in my sad life?
Anbernic devices are always more expensive than the competition, that's nothing new and totally expected. They just annoucned the RG556, which is around the power of the base RP4 for $185 (with an 5.5 OLED panel, but still), they're always a few months behind performance wise.
I love my Pocket Flip, but I can't with these 16:9 screens that are mostly good for 4:3 gameplay. Even with the extra power, GameCube, PS2, and Dreamcast are still best enjoyed at 4:3. It just seems like a lot of mostly unused surface area. I would much rather have a 4.5-inch or 5-inch 4:3 screen on this.
This is how I feel. I was excited about anbernics rg405M for that reason but the chipset wasn't powerful enough.

The same thing happened to me! I swore I ordered the clear one, but I got the 16-bit one. Same deal, checked my order it says the 16-bit one. But, I put it to a vote with my kids and we decided to get the clear one. I just thought I stuffed up. Maybe, there is some shenanigans going on...
Had the right trigger spring break within hours of first using it. Contacted customer support and was ignored. Actually love the 4pro but their lack of support to manufacturing defects will ruin them.
I just wish they would ship them out faster! Been waiting a week and half now. Saw people on Reddit waiting almost month before it was just shipped.
