This was a really special one, JZ. I really enjoyed the pace, the shot selection, the sounds, and taking in all the details of the areas you explored. Thanks for sharing this. Stoked to see what your next adventure ends up being.
JZ you are one of the best when it comes to cinematography, the simplicity and natural scenery you capture is way better than others in my opinion! Thank you for taking the time and energy to get the shots, I know it adds to the length you walk but they are great breathtaking shots for sure and I definitely don’t take your videos for granted!!
Thanks John. Your videos are a constant source of inspiration. I truly appreciate your humility and attention to the little details that make a trail experience. You’ve changed my perspective on hiking and inspired me in a lot of different ways, so thank you so much. If you’re ever in Western WA and need a hiking partner or help getting to a trail or need a ride just let me know and I’d gladly help you out. You’ve given so much to the hiking community
Oh wow. No music needed for this one, the mountains sing their own song. It keeps on drawing us back! So beautiful. It was so good to feel your growing peace as you grow, and step along the path of your life. John, would you consider doing another through-hike, and make a video series about it? A slower, thoughtful hike, like this section hike? I feel like the new generation of hikers who do not know they are hikers yet would fall in love with the poetry of the trail the way you share it. The world would be a better place if more people loved the earth as deeply as you do. If you are looking for another adventure... 🙂
Hey, John! Long time watcher, first time commenter. ;-) Your videos are beautiful and inspirational! Just wanted to let you know I'm playing your Clair de Lune video while watching this and it makes great background music. Hope all is well with you and thanks again for transporting me time and again to wonderful places and feelings! Take care!!
Thank you for sharing the trail and excellent video. The sound is a special treat . Nature, footsteps, silence- exactly what you hear on trail and ho you move on it. Happy trails!
Good one John! Super clean and beautiful video. As soon as i saw that you had posted i immediatly had to watch (was in the middle of studying but that could wait just a little longer, hehe).
You always make me feel like I'm there. I can't hike right now but you make me feel like I just did one. Your shot selection, use of light, ability to give perspective and scale are all awesome!
Hey John, a bit late, but I’m glad you ended up getting your Timberline lodge resupply alright! I was stoked to hear you caught up with Zaphod too. He’s a strong hiker and more importantly just a super genuine guy. I think I caught a Davy Crockett sighting too?
Pretty cool that you actually showed the burn s, its sad but really bizarre looking landscape. I still haven't hiked any of the PCT states but hopefully one day. I have loved everything that I have got to do in the west so far.
Really great video. I noticed the lack of music and different style immediately. I love that you shared what food you took and that we got to see the yonder a bit more. An overview of the pack would make for a great video.
Do you ever get the urge, instead of following the trail, to take a side trip and spend a few days hiking around the trail and exploring what else is out there if you really like a section? The person who asked what trail it was and the Martian looking lava field made me want to see more of it. And instead of following a trail i like to explore a space around the trail when the section is great. I feel like there is a lot of stuff on trail that is the same for too long and some parts you just scratch on the surface instead of spending more time there and skipping the parts that are similar
man you are so hardcore; how do you do it? I live in Oregon, and there are so many good trails nearby, but I hardly ever find myself doing long stuff. I go hiking about once or twice a week, sometimes up to 7 miles, but I never seem to be able to find time to do much more between school and the gym. What do I start with? Hardcore all day hikes up mountains? Or a more medium one or two day trip?
I did Oregon last year in July and I remember that traverse with the pika, except there was no pika for me. I'm 69 now and still have never seen one. I'd better figure something out before I'm too old for backpacking.
Thanks for sharing! I was curious, how did you like the ZV-1 compared to the A7SIII regarding image quality and battery life? And I saw you had two mics. Would you plug the wireless lav when you wanted to speak to the camera and then plug the shotgut mic when filming regular hiking? Thanks, and enjoy the rest of the hiking season!
a7s3 is amazing. too expensive for me right now, though. battery life is pretty bad when shooting 4k with the zv1. image quality is good as far as it having the modern sony image processing is concerned, but there are obvious limitations with the lens. overall i think top image quality isn’t super important for me these days. zv1 having a mic jack is what sold me on it. for this video the shotgun is used except for when talking, where i just put a lav in my pocket. i experimented with an on-trail video podcast with 2 lavs and the quality was good. no 30 minute record limit. does everything i need.
for the price and the size and the features, zv1 is pretty much perfect for a youtube hiking video. rx100’s don’t have mic jacks and a7s’s are significantly bigger. might make a video about cameras for hiking …

Here's my view.
♥
nice mic work, love all the soundscapes
Thanks for showing the Very Sincere Pika. Really nice to see.
So relaxed and peaceful. Thank you for sharing this.
Beautiful cinematography John. I vividly remember some of your shots from my 2019 hike. Thanks for sharing.
no music made this even more amazing. the attention to detail with sounds was awesome! Thanks John!

This is basically PCT ASMR.
can't believe the audio in this video man, unbelievable. So beautifully shot the whole thing.
Your videos always bring me joy. Thanks for sharing your hiking days for those days when I can’t be on a trail.

Great video John, I like how you go through different appreciations of the trail.

Love the cinematography--brings back memories from the PCT last year. The quality of what you are getting out of the zv-1 is pretty incredible.
Thank you for featuring Oregon! Sorry for all the burn sections and the smoke 😕

I love the sounds in this video and the way you look so small in the forest.
Great to see you again
You have been missed😊

I loved the meal plan part. Great video thanks for the share.
Great video. Also, I typically like the music in your hiking videos.
Thank you sir
Thank you for this great video. I am considering my own third thru hike.
Thank you for the video. Beautiful.

it’s been wild seeing new burns and old burn recovery over the years
Really great video. I noticed the lack of music and different style immediately. I love that you shared what food you took and that we got to see the yonder a bit more. An overview of the pack would make for a great video.
Beautiful!
So good man! Makes me want to get back out on the PCT again. And that audio, so crisp! 💯

What burn was that at 8:07?
Love this!

@@JohnZahorian nice, thank you for the comprehensive response!
✌️ Beautiful
John, how did you like the Sony zv-1 vs. the A7S and RX100?

@@JohnZahorianI'd be really interested to see a video about cameras.
hi john. question. what is the shirt you are wearing? it looks like a good shirt and i like a good shirt.
Lots of routes in the High Sierra are beckoning...
Pretty decent camera!😊
Cascade Locks to the Lodge on day 1?!?

Was that other hiker named Conway?
Wow. You didn’t filter the water at 4:00.
it's ultra light.
Looks like spring water, you don’t have to filter it.
Dates: natures energy bar. I love 'em on trail, too, but they give me mad diarrhea.

c'mon wasps, give a man a break 🐝
What is up with these bees this year. Up until this year I got stung once in the past twenty years. This year I got stung 4 times, once on my balls!
Here because of TechDweeb's most recent video
Ever watch videos of Osama bin Laden? This guy has a very similar look and vibe -- a strange, sinister holy man aura.
Dude.
