@DarwinOnthetrail love this video....great work! Thank you for the inspo and for sharing your favorite section of the PCT. I've hiked near and on Mt. Baker back in the day....feeling the urge to get back there asap 🌄
Man, it's good to see you doing hiking videos again!! You, Dix, and IBT have been huge influences in my decision to do the the AT in '24!! Cheers, Shadow.
What a beautiful piece of videography! Not too long not too short, yet so much to comment on. Hope your tent canopy wasn’t ruined by the sap. I had some sap fall in my Amok Draumr when I set up without a tarp. I learned my lesson… and I guess I have a couple waterproof spots on it now 😂 Merry Christmas to you all
Beautiful video Nick. Thank you for putting this content out for us to see and take part in. I admire your willingness to do your thing no matter what the social grain tells you to. Also want to note my appreciation for the quality of video and editing. Bravo my friend. Best.
Welcome home Darwin... Your beautifully choreographed scenes along with the flashbacks made this section hike one of my favorites, thank you. Happy holidays!
Thanks, this video made my morning. The fog covering trees here in Portland this morning looks like your video, and now I'm suitably relaxed and focused for the work day.
Thanks Darwin, Your 2018 PCT series is by far my favorite of your series. It's good to see you back on the trail even if its just a couple of days in smokey PNW.
As a lifelong Seattle resident, I can't agree more. So beautiful! I personally think Section J is better, but that Section is amazing as well. Our scouts did J a few years ago. Epic!
I'm glad you were able to enjoy some of the PCT again. I have lived in the PNW my whole life. After watching your original PCT video i have been inspired to hike it myself! Thank you for all the thoughtful information and inspiration.
GORGEOUS!! "Nice & easy" is what I like to hear! CANNOT wait to experience this for ourselves - we start May 15th! Can only imagine getting to Cascade Locks. Thx for this vid, Darwin - happy holiday & merry christmas to you & Snuggles! -- Chica
Im the same tgat area are magical, did the PCT this year and my favorit part of the trail was Washington state... wow! ❤ The Sierra however was a bit special this year, I whent in early (20th May) and it was snow for a long time. But we did it 😊
How have I never come across your channel before!? So glad @DanBecker did his recent interview with you for me to discover your channel! Great stuff Nick!
I’m guessing you just got into backpacking UA-cam in the last year. Darwin was on a break. He was pumping out content when Dan Becker was still in diapers.
Thanks for the video. I've watched your PCT series from beginning to end a couple times because it was such an interesting adventure. Post-holing. Not bueno. 👍👍
Ah, the beautiful PCT. I'm sure it felt like home again. I remember that section like it was yesterday - Rain, rain and more rain. I ended up staying at the Washington Club Alpine Lodge for 2 nights bc it continued to rain. Cheers to 2018 class of PCT, twas one good year.
Welcome back Darwin, I was one of those that was angry that you stopped but now I understand , have a small youtube channel and you inspired me, last question , are you looking to climb everest , love from Malta 🇲🇹
it's sleep booties for me. I knew you wore them but I didn't know Snuggles did too! Such a cutie photo of you and Snuggles; so good to see her - give us more :) Love you guys
Happy Holidays to you and family. Very nice video and it's good to see you again on the trail and on youtube. Also, a great get together with Dan B. I've got to ask now that you've had the Topo shoes for a bit, how you're liking them? I'm in the same shoe dilemma with Altra and looking for an alternate brand. Anyway, great content and STILL enjoying your videos.
Hey, i hiked the Oregon PCT in June 2019. Many morning wet thick fog. Meant to do Washington pct this August to trails days. But was not irganized to go for a month.😅
OMG... My partner and I were there almost at the same time! We must have just missed you by a little bit! :) Safe travels and hope to see you on the trail!
Beautiful video! Why no lid for your mug when boiling water? A bit more weight, but quicker boil time and more boiled water per gas usage. Maybe saving weight in the end. Just wondering. 😊
As someone who lived in Washington, the window when you can hike is very narrow. It is like 9 months of grey weather and 3 months of glorious summer. You can hike in the Sierras much longer.
Great video, sir! Do you have some type of lid for your mug/pot? Wouldn't take up much space & might prove beneficial for making the most of those low gas moments.
Great video. Would you ever consider another AT thru hike or are you done with that kind of hike like you said in the interview with Dan? Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
Hey Darwin. I'm not sure what it was but this really moved me. I really enjoyed the conversation you had with Dan Becker. Ever think about a second channel making videos beyond just hiking? Just a thought! Thinking vlog style
Hi Nick! I love the videos and realness on the trail! I am an avid hiker and look forward to purchasing the Ranger soon. Love the functional yet minimalist design. What is your tent? ⛰
What's going on with the CDT videos? I thought you were going to finish those. Can you let us know if you still plan to putting that content out. I was really looking forward to those.
Oh No! He's using a stove!!!!! lol Love your cold soak ideas, but the Cascades get cool. A hot meal and hot coffee are great! You might want to play with solid fuel / wood twig stoves, vice canisters. I'm sure you've heard lots of arguments on both sides, but get some of your own experience if you haven't already. Flat Cat's epicurean is a very light solid fuel stove. Playing with the height / fuel platform can get you a tiny twig stove too. Homebrew, tin can tin makes great prototypes that can then be converted to Ti.
So breathtaking to me, a place I long to see one day. Time is slipping by fast so I’m so thankful for these videos Darwin…..do you Ever get scared at night?? Ever ?
I always pack beans so I know I'll have plenty of gas. Jokes aside, I really love the the MSR WindBurner Stove mostly because how efficient is on fuel. You lose SO MUCH efficiency with other stoves even if there's a light breeze and you even put up a wind block. It weighs a tiny bit more but you don't have to worry about fuel as much. I don't think I've ever had to run it for more than about 90 seconds even in 40mph winds. I've gone on a few hiking trips with it and still have the first fuel can I had when I bought it. Only thing I don't like about it is that the coozie gets too hot to hold for about 30 seconds after you turn the burner off and the igniter doesn't work like every other stove but a flint igniter still works well.
Oh yeah! They have been my favorite band for over 20 years. Seen em’ tons of times live, but the show in Seattle was with the 40 piece Wordless Orchestra. It was amazing!
We only had a handful of really bad smoke event days in Western WA this year (2023), and these were unfortunately those few days. Hope you enjoyed our back yard otherwise!
Darwin trail videos are back and the production quality is better than ever before! Thanks for sharing!
Thank You! ❤️
The northern cascades are like nothing else I’ve ever seen. There’s some kind of magic in those mountains. ❤️
For Sure!
I would agree with that statement! I love the High Sierra section as well.
Agree. Oh so agree. Darwin is kinda making me sad because I miss it so much.
It was like all of the best parts of the Rockies that I had ever seen smashed together.
@DarwinOnthetrail love this video....great work! Thank you for the inspo and for sharing your favorite section of the PCT. I've hiked near and on Mt. Baker back in the day....feeling the urge to get back there asap 🌄
Thank You! Get back out there, it’s sooo beautiful!
The contrasst of your old footage and the new footage of the same trail was pretty cool to watch, you've evolved so much.
Man, it's good to see you doing hiking videos again!! You, Dix, and IBT have been huge influences in my decision to do the the AT in '24!! Cheers, Shadow.

Thanks, I appreciate that!
What a beautiful area, I can see why you like it so much. Thanks for sharing your return to this part of the PCT.
Thanks for watching! I'm hoping to get out on another section down South sometime soon 😉
Welcome home Darwin... Your beautifully choreographed scenes along with the flashbacks made this section hike one of my favorites, thank you. Happy holidays!
Awesome! Thank you!
So great to see you back on trail. I look forward to seeing your future adventures.
I needed this today, made me smile. Thanks! Merry Christmas.
🙂 Same to you!
was a great watch, good to see ya out and about!!
Thanks, this video made my morning. The fog covering trees here in Portland this morning looks like your video, and now I'm suitably relaxed and focused for the work day.
Fun video. This reminded me of hiking snoqualmie to Steven's pass in 2018, when I did it it was also really hot and smokey. Was there Aug 8-13 2018.
Thanks Darwin, Your 2018 PCT series is by far my favorite of your series. It's good to see you back on the trail even if its just a couple of days in smokey PNW.
It's great to see you back on the trail Darwin. Thanks for making/sharing this video. Happy Xmas and New year to you and family 👍
At age fourteen, I hiked Chinook to Snoqualmie with my dad so I could earn the Boy Scout 50-Mile badge. A fine hike to remember.
Nice! It's such a beautiful section of trail ❤️
As a lifelong Seattle resident, I can't agree more. So beautiful! I personally think Section J is better, but that Section is amazing as well. Our scouts did J a few years ago. Epic!
So glad you are back sharing and inspiring us. This video made my night. Thank you!
Ah, this was good. Makes me miss the trail. Thanks for sharing and taking us back for a little while.
You hiked right near my neck of the woods. Enumclaw WA. It certainly doesn’t suck to live here!
That partial section from Chinook to Snoqualmie is my goto long weekend hike.
Glad to see you back on the trail
I'm glad you were able to enjoy some of the PCT again. I have lived in the PNW my whole life. After watching your original PCT video i have been inspired to hike it myself! Thank you for all the thoughtful information and inspiration.
These video are so peaceful. I feel like I'm there when I watch them just taking in the scenery. Well done sir.
What a joy to watch this evening. Thank you.
Happy Holidays Darwin. Always been a huge fan! Happy Trails.
Happy holidays!
Good to see you in the woods again
You mentioned the sap. We had a similar experience here in GA. I’ve never seen it before.
Ha, I camped on that beach at Mirror Lake on my 2017 thru. Condensation hell! 🙈
Such a beautiful spot though... Definitely Worth It!

Nic I love the music you play in this video. It's quite nostalgic. Is it your own? If so, where's the Playlist?! I need more!
Master videographer at work! Thx for the inspiration. Happy trails.
Merry Christmas Darwin 🎄
thank you for sharing

This was really fun to watch, your hiking videos are great
Thanks so much!
That was beautifully filmed. Thank you so much.
Beautiful, man. I hope to be able to hike at least SOME of the PCT someday...
Beautiful video!🌲🥾🎥

not sure I ever noticed this in your other videos but you seem really chill and peaceful for this whole edit. Yeah “Green Room” effect :).
Thanks for the hike down memory lane buddy! Miss ya!!
I AM GLAD YOU'RE BACK ON UA-cam!
Hey, Thanks! Glad to be back!
Great video. I remember if blowing me away when I learned that I learned to ski right on top of the PCT. What concert did you go to in Seattle?
I’m also wondering!
Nice one Darwin!

My new mug that my gear company makes has a lid. 🤙
I for one could go for another round of these episodes. Hope all is well Darwin
Darwin hiking video?! Christmas came early :D
🎅🏻 Ho Ho Ho!
So true!
A great way to "waste some time"!!!! Thank you for sharing your experience with this beautiful video!!!
How did you clean the pine sap off of your tent?
Absolutely love this section! I had to skip the Sierra but the Cascades were the highlight of the trail for me!
Also one of my favorite stretches of trail. We are extremely fortunate in Washington State.
As someone who lived in Washington, the window when you can hike is very narrow. It is like 9 months of grey weather and 3 months of glorious summer. You can hike in the Sierras much longer.

Damn! Your production level is sooooo good! You should be working in Hollywood!
beautiful. next level
Norse Peak Wilderness is an underrated gem, mainly because you have to drive past Mt. Rainier to get to it.
Darwin, I don't see you as sappy, or chilled, and thanks so much for taking us long with you in such a glorious place!
I need to get out there! Also, what concert did you see?
Ive always been interested in driving up from California to the Cascades. This video is definitely pushing me to make that trip.
Great video. Would you ever consider another AT thru hike or are you done with that kind of hike like you said in the interview with Dan? Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
Thanks for posting some holiday entertainment. Would you wear your sun hoodie on a Bikepacking trip?

It seems super empty, or is it just in videos. Like no one js hiking 😊. Also how do you handle a lot of condensation? Let it dry? Wipe it off?
Oh No! He's using a stove!!!!! lol Love your cold soak ideas, but the Cascades get cool. A hot meal and hot coffee are great!

Another fantastic video. No idea how you manage with that tiny backpack. I can hardly fit my stuff into a 60L Atompacks Mo

Okay so who’s making the edit of all the times Darwin has slurped his coffee in the morning while looking in the distance?
7:51 - and what? Little Brian?
Setting up camp by lakes makes for the best views and sensations but I also can’t find a way to not wake up soaking wet (condensation) when doing so
A concert? You`re a musician? cool.. I love the cascades as well and thoroughly enjoy your videos. Thanks!
I am, but no, I went to a concert. My favorite band, Sigur Ros ❤️
@@DarwinOnthetrail sigur ros, I would've never guessed. I've been a fan ever since () came out. looking forward to more vids from you :)

Cascades > Sierra, all day.
Anyone have an AllTrials for this hike?
Nice one
Thank you for your proper grammar and nomenclature re: The Sierra. You win the Perspicacious Award for Excellence in Use of Plurals.
Hah who said he’s finished thru-hiking? Good to see you back on trail.
who played at the concert? just curious :)

Have you ever done the Olympics? If not, please do 🙏. Some of the most rugged, remote places imaginable in the lower 48. Hint: Bailey range traverse.
Do you worry about air quality you breathe in wildfire smoke?
25 miles is not an easy day for me, even on flat trails. Maybe that will change as I get some more experience.
