45 years ago I was a young man working down the street at Bob Dabney Wholesale Co. I'd come to Stagg's and they'd have sandwiches already made, and hotdogs and hamburgers too. They'd make you any kind of sandwich. They also sold coffee beans and would grind them however you wanted. The store seemed ancient even back then.

My Mom from Oklahoma made us chocolate gravy. We'd put it on buttered biscuits or toast. None of my friends here in California had ever heard of it and most of them thought it sounded gross until they tried it. If I ever get to Northern Alabama I'm definitely stopping in on a Friday! You'll probably see me crying while I eat remembering my sweet momma!

My aunt Joyce made Chocolate gravy and cathead biscuits for me every day when I'd come for a week-long visit. Blackberry gravy too. When she had collected enough berries to make it.

That place is only a few blocks from my house. My grandfather had a taxi cab stand next door to Staggs years ago. Love the place

@@ThisIsAlabama There is an old garage across the street that used to be called "Berryhills garage" That was one of my best friends grandparents shops. That area has changed dramatically over the last 20+ years. They have built a new hospital on the old location of my elementary school (Brandon elementary) we used to sit on the hill and just check out the area below where Staggs is located. I love anything and everything Alabama, it's my home, and it's got alot of history. Thanks for sharing these videos. (Also one of the older guys in this video,he has a go t, and glasses. His mother lived across the street from us for 30 years)

My aunt who was from Alabama used to make chocolate gravy. I use to have her recipe when my children were young but I just can't find it, and I'm too old to remember it. Lol
