BMW M54B30 Oil Change Tutorial M50, M52, M54

- Changed the oil in the wagon which has the M54B30 engine. I used a Mann 925/4X Oil Filter and Castrol 10W-40 Partially Synthetic Oil.

A few hints here...
1. About every other oil change, replace the two small green O-rings on the bypass spindle on the oil filter holder. These are a dealer item, but they are cheap.
2. Replace the large diameter O-ring before placing the new filter in the holder, less risk of damaging the filter.
3. Use a torque wrench when reinstalling the filter holder and the drain plug. The proper torque for both is 25 Newton-meters (18 Foot-Pounds).
One last thing...when you started your engine at the end...you're burning oil, Dude!!

Think like you put the oil the maximum level ...it will be tougher on your oil pump and engine during high speed..just my 2 cts.i like the oil in the middle level..car runs smoother

I have found walmart to be drastically cheaper on oil and some other fluids, just a tip! Keep up the e30 content! I like the relevancy because lots of swaps into e30s!I just changed my oil to 10w40, but I may need to step up to 20w50 because my valves are super noisy! I adjusted to .010, too noisy, I stepped it down to .080, still very noisy! Such a headache..

You put about 7 quarts right? Book was calling for 6.8 quarts same as the e36 m52..
I've been looking at a southern owned car lately and I wanted some advice. It's a 540i touring. I'd love to have the v8 but heard they break and break exspensively lol. I live in pa and it's a sc car so rust isn't as much of a worry. What's your opinion? plus any other people who wanna chime in
They aren't bad cars, many people fear the V8s because of maintenance. Timing guides need to be done around every 100K miles, and the rear suspension sometimes had bags which liked to leak and break. Not bad cars though.

The torque on the sump plug is _deceptively_ low.
25 Nm/18 lb-ft is next to nothing - you can do it with one finger, pretty much.

I've had pretty good luck with 10w-40, my car likes to burn a fair amount of oil between changes. I've seen lots of M50/M52/M54 engine swaps on E30s, so I figured why not.
Dan Cronin Can i use 10w60 castrol edge or motul 8100 on m54 330i? So much oil consumption exist.
