I genuinely loathe the hustle ability existing, as well as moves like focus miss or stone edge. Thunder and blizzard are inaccurate but can be made perfectly accurate with weather and there are also less powerful but fully accurate moves of the same move and attack type, but there are some types like physical rock and special fighting where most pokemon don't have access to a solid accurate move, being stuck with only the inaccurate gamble move like focus blast rather than having access to aura sphere
Ye but without a share of randomness the game becomes predictable and it won't be as engaging in some ways. When I played magic the gathering I realised tha No matter what you do you are still playing a card game so luck can screw you up! I loved the game so much and although you still needed to understand the game and match the power level of your opponent's deck randomness could make you win or lose. I want to say that if you respect the meta then randomness is fine, it is just the unpredictable factor. Knowing it you can always try and play around it there are also balancing reasons around it. @@MarkofWisdom
Honestly I love Flygon's self awareness. The checklist about tropes to fulfil in an Ultra Moon nuzlocke, such as a rant on the cutscenes and the underestimation of Totem Marowak, etc. are great. Not to mention the omni-present and increasingly insane ad segways!
Love seeing underdogs like Vullaby and Sableye really shine in this play through. That’s the beauty of these monotype nuzlockes, and something that I genuinely think you excel in.
Using bulky Absol to stall out Mimikyu is not what I expected, but I'm happy to see my favorite Pokémon be used creatively in my favorite Pokémon games!
Challenge Idea: "Doing It Wrong" Challenge. Hardcore Nuzlocke, No encounter restrictions, but every pokemon you have, it may only use attacking moves of the less powerful category (physical or special) in battle. Special Gyarados, Physical Alakazam, you name it. I think this would be fun for pokemon with a strong preference/aptitude for one, but a terrible learnset with only great moves in the other. Such pokemon would probably shine!
I actually did the special gyrados, my first pokemon game was sun, and I had no idea how it worked. I knew dragon dance was good but my mega gyrados would capitalize on the boost with... Hydro Pump. So that's cool
Not relevant to the contents of your comment. But "Doing It Wrong" was the name of a Pokemon fanfic I wrote YEARS AND YEARS ago when I was in maybe like, middle school? So you gave me the craziest flashback
Re: Should you do Ultra Sun/Moon runs: Yes! Outside of romhacks, Alola runs are the videos from you that I rewatch the most. They feel like a genuine challenge and I especially like learning about new moves and tactics. Like, Malamar's Topsy turvy! A new way to beat Ultra Necrozma! It's all really really cool :)
Yet another fantastic video by you. It never ceases to amaze me that you do the same content over and over again, but you make it engaging every time where I'm hooked to the screen. The small stories between, the overarching narrative, the touching character building of your team. You truly feel connected to the team even though we aren't playing, just watching. Takes a lot of skill to do that and you've grown over the years to earn it. Well done Doc
This is now the second time in 3 years I’ve opened UA-cam to see Flygon drop a run that is identical to the one I’m currently playing myself. Such a wonderful feeling!
I think watching a Halloween run were you are tormented the whole time would be interesting. And by tormented I mean the effect of the move torment is always active on your side, no using moves twice in a row.
All of my life, I've never even though about topsy turvy. I had no idea it could be so useful on specifically totem fights. That kind of strategy is why I love pokemon
I'm glad you appreciate the Ultra games so much! They are some of my absolute favorites for the same reasons you mentioned. It's always nice to see them played through on this channel
The part about Megan and sacrifices being hard is highkey emblematic of why your channel is my favorite in the nuzlocke scene. Nuzlockes used to be about using guys you’ve never considered and making them your friend. Your special guy. And caring way too much when one of your special guys dies and screaming with joy when they don’t. The original nuzlocke was a comic, it was about the *story* you could tell and I loved that. After years where it’s all been boiled down to team building to nth degree and making sacs on purpose, most nuzlocke runs just don’t interest me anymore. They lack compassion, I guess is what I’m trying to say. Your pokemon runs are peak exactly because you still make it feel like you’re enjoying the game instead of just enjoying being *good* at the game. Suboptimal is better sometimes, yknow?
I did an Ultra Moon Dark only playthrough a while back. Seeing this video reminded of the fun I had with it. Shoutout to Master Belch, my Alolan Muk and MVP.
2:12 - I don't think I ever realized just how disrespectful teaching someone how to jump down a ledge would be in real life. Imagine the girl known for defending helpless creatures taking one look at you and deciding she needed to spend 5 minutes explaining how to safely step down from a slight elevation.
Helping Hand-boosted, +3 Sp. Attack, STAB-boosted Bug Buzz from Totem Ribombee yet Alolan Muk managed to survive it, I know it has quite the good Special bulk but my goodness that is insane for Ghostface to do so!
Sableye is my all-time favorite Pokémon and it's so satisfying to see the little goblin show off her potential in a nuzlocke. Excellent video, as usual, Dr. HG!
Bro, that Love is Blind reference was so funny. I paused the video for my wife to watch too, we also fast forward 90% of the finale. We also do predictions for all the couples (1 point for getting yes/no right and a bonus point for which one says "no" at the altar)
It's crazy just how much harder Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon are than any other Pokemon games. The 2v1 totem matches, the stat boosts (even omni boosts) to start the battles, the fully maxed out EV's, all things you really don't see in any other game from the series. Most nuzlocke's can be beaten either deathless or with very few sacrifices but these games basically rely on dodging crits at certain times and making strategic sacrifices. These games are a couple minor tweaks away from being more like a ROM hack than a vanilla game. Great video, how dare you allow Alolan Muk to die like that and look forward to the next one!
havent watched the video yet but very glad you chose moon since you’re doing dark types, would’ve been a missed opportunity of it wasnt dark through the entire run
Always good to find an early run easy. Good muse to themes on which games and types to use, and can be interesting to envision what other methods can entail a nuzlocke run, like if you played GoldSilver only using the Pokemon who gain evolutions in later titles.
I like seeing the nuzlockes in Alola. With different max levels and real fights to watch out for, it's much more interesting and varied than a lineup of gym leaders. I also really enjoy watching the journey you go through with your different teams. :)
I'm so impressed with this playthrough! One of the most exciting nuzlockes I've seen. I never managed myself to complete a Sun & Moon/Ultra vanilla nuzlocke. I don't play with calcs though since I'm terrible at math and all the cutscenes drive me insane lol Thank you for bringing laughter and excitement with your videos, Flygon!
I like to see the Ultra Sun/Moon nuzlockes! I never bought a copy of the Ultra games so it feels super fresh to see these games played and they do actually look challenging.
The Alola games are in my top3 favorite in Pokemon, so I'm glad you enjoy playing them! I think they get more hate than they deserve. Great video as always
Saw the thumbnail and thought it was a wolfey video lol. Anyway, brilliant storytelling as always Matti, and good luck on your twitch challenges this week and weekend!
It would be maybe neat to see a nuzlocke using only pokemon that have fainted in previous nuzlockes of that region. A little all-stars redemption round if you will.
ultra sun/moon are my favorite pokemon games- they’re really challenging (even if sometimes that challenge is my patience lmao) and the variety of pokemon and options makes it really enjoyable!
I'm at 0:54 and I'm typing this comment to have a guess at the naming theme cause as soon as I heard "Freddy" I'm like, 90% sure that it's for Freddy Kruger and the theme is horror movie villans so I'm expecting to see a Jason, Saw, Pennywise and more~!
