    6:15 So if details aren't elaborated on, then it's ok to presume it's the victim's fault? You shouldn't be presuming anything, Destiny just lost the logic on his take and assumed a senario happened (that was in no way was described to have happened) which then turns out, didn't actually happen. This is almost identical in structure to when Vaush assumed that the police are "trained" to plant weed in the back of a suspect's car. It's biases leading from a lack of knowledge to assumed knowledge.

    • @mrodo5175
      @mrodo5175 2 роки тому +1

      It is nowhere near tantamount to that. Describing your reasoning for avoiding confrontation as the "awkwardness" of the situation, is enough to indicate to an audience that it wasn't due to a fear of violence.
      Even if the prescription Destiny gave doesn't apply to that girl, it still applies to people who avoid confrontation out of awkwardness

    • @krieginphernjacobson
      @krieginphernjacobson 2 роки тому +3

      @@mrodo5175 Rape victims often feel embarrassment about it, often almost blaming themselves and very often downplaying the actual sexual assault. When someone is sexually assaulted and uses the term "awkwardness" to describe the situation, anyone slightly familiar with these facts would give more weight to the actual claims than a softer terminology. This is something that Destiny knows and has himself stated in the past. I understand many in his audience not understanding this, but that just makes it worse that Destiny would be continuing to justify his baseless assumptions in such a way.
      I understand you possibly never using "awkward" in this way, but when many people are embarrassed or ashamed of something, they often use "awkward" specifically as a softer word than what they actually mean. This is something that Destiny definitely knows as (from my own experience) it's a fairly basic thing that people learn from conventional experience. Ive personally used it in that way, as have many of my friends, and my family, and every girl I've ever dated. Maybe it's extremely different in Nebraska (I live in Ontario) but I doubt that, it really just seems like Destiny is gaslighting hard to try and come off less horribly.
      TLDR: When someone is feeling ashamed of something (which most rape victins do) they use softer language with "awkward" specifically being extremely common. There's a very small chance Destiny doesnt know this as it's very basic experiencial knowledge and Destiny has touched grass quite a few times.

    • @krieginphernjacobson
      @krieginphernjacobson 2 роки тому +3

      @@mrodo5175 The issue comes back to what I was originally saying. My issue is that he assumed that a person who was sexually assaulted, probably feels shame over it, definitely felt vulnerable because of it, and is saying their piece without much detail (which only adds to the likelihood of shame) is using the word "awkward" completely by the book rather than to downplay what happened.
      Destiny obviously knows how shame affects peoples willingness/ability to talk about things and yet because someone didnt use perfect dictionary language, he assumes its not actually a big deal and that she just needs to set her boundaries better. This is the "presuming knowledge" part yet again, assuming shame didn't affact her ability to speak bluntly, assuming she could have stopped him if she tried, and assuming she wouldn't get beaten up for trying to stop him.

    • @mrodo5175
      @mrodo5175 2 роки тому

      @@krieginphernjacobson actually I thought what happened was that mindwaves quite tweeted with the prescription that "if you avoided confrontation due to awkwardness you shouldn't have casual sex"
      People then pushed back against that and Destiny defended that idea. The original girl essentially got caught in the crossfire.
      We have to disagree on your characterization. Using awkward here isnt just "failing to use perfect dictionary wording". It's using wildly inaccurate wording.
      And if the wording turns out to be inaccurate then the original poster isn't caught within the scope of their prescriptions so I don't see the issue?
      Also no assumption about her capability to stop him is made. If she didn't speak up out of fear of retribution then she isn't covered by the tweets as she wouldn't be avoiding confrontation out of "awkwardness" . I would classify shame to be on the same level of awkwardness tbh, in terms of reasons to avoid enforcing boundaries
