    This video was truly great. I don't even use Ableton that much. I used to have a Push 2 and ended up selling it due to not using it. I use Ableton more now than I used to and have been leaning towards getting another Push and actually learning it. What I didn't expect when I came into this video was the amazing almost existential ideas you laid out and the awesome focus on mindset and the true purpose of a musician or composer/producer. Thank you for doing this. Subbed

    I had the unique pleasure of meeting a neighbor of my college roommate, who worked at Electric Lady land studios.
    He said something that resonates with me to this day : 'Hendrix records sound the way they do because he saw the studio as an instrument, and we producers as equal members of his band.'
    Electric lady Land is basically within all of our grasp now, if you can handle that level of musical freedom
    Then the Sky's the limit

    What's up everyone... this video has been over 3 months in the

    This is hands down the most motivating, honest, & holistic video about music production and ableton I have ever seen! Your ideas mentioned here are so critical to remember and to practice. It's easy to relate to the pitfalls we all face as artists, and you've eloquently touched on the heart of those creative issues. Thanks so much man, I'm feeling super inspired & grateful!

    This video is possibly the best thing I've come across in a very long time. The reason I want to make music is to express my thoughts, feelings, and my soul. Thank you for that reminder! Before I watched your video, I was more focused on getting the right gear, but now I have gained such clarity as to what is really important and my WHY behind making music 💗

    This was extremely well put together and inspirational. Thank you for that!
    I'm a complete beginner in the field starting only a couple of month back with the novation circuit and I've been contemplating how to "advance" ever since i felt "held back" with it. I keep hearing the limitations are what unlocks my creativity and i get that. But i quickly got to a point where i have ideas in my head, that i simply can not realise with the circuit from a technical standpoint and where there also isn't like a creative way to surpass that in any form (i.e. stacking more sounds/tracks, sustaining notes over one bar, etc.).
    So now i'm at the point where i try to figure out what is the most logical way for me to progress. Software in theory does everything, but i hate using it. Push seems to give me that hands on experience i know and love from the circuit, but together with the standard suite sets me back about 1000€.
    The alternative would only be adding hardware synths and drum machines over time, but i don't have much space for that. Plus the better ones quickly ramp up in price as well. As i write this comment i realise, i'm more or less writing this for myself trying to figure out what to do. 1000€ to me is a lot of money. Voice of reasons says i should act my age and save my money for more "important" things like cars and new dishwashers n shit. But my inner child says it wants a push and it wants it NOW....
    God it's fucking hard to be immature sometimes...

    • @PUSH4LIFE
      @PUSH4LIFE  6 років тому +1

      I hear ya.... gear is expensive but is also worth it when it comes to something like PUSH... just get anything important that you need first and once you can buy it without feeling irresponsible JUST DO IT ;)

    • @TheTwestone
      @TheTwestone 6 років тому

      Thx man - i went ahead and did it anyway. Money's for spending, right? *cough* :D Can't say i regret it though. It's most certainly like going from a bike to a ferrari, which makes it all the more worth - just have to not let myself get overwhelmed and do the 80/20 thing. ;D
      I mean i was able to put together my first arranged song within 2 days, that - despite the obvious fact that i'm a beginner - i actually was quite happy how it turned out, so i'm having fun. :D

    Important things first. Congrats on your second daughter. I wish you and your family an abundance of health of health & happiness. I recently stumbled on one of your technical videos, was blown away, and subscribed immediately to your channel. I got very lucky finding your channel because this was the second video I watched and is hands down one of the top (in my opinion of course) videos I have ever watched because it doesn't focus on a specific technical skills, but all the little things that if followed as suggested, will create a powerful synergy that will allow you to learn quicker, which in turn boasts your confidence, which motivates me to keep learning. If you keep this cycle going, it is only a matter of time before you sit back and realize how far you have come from day one. I believe the best advice you gave which everyone really needs to grasp is thinking the next VST or controller will improve your creativity. I made the mistake of buying too much gear when I first started building my Ableton studio about 1 1/2 ago. It backfired because I was so overwhelmed, it took the fun away from practicing because I wasn't able to focus on one controller or Ableton because of all the VSTs I purchased and progress came to a halt.. I take a 2-hour private online lessons every week from an Ableton certified instructor using Skype and screen sharing software. Ironically he said, for next 3 months, the only tool you will be using is Push 2 and Ableton Live Suite. He had me use Push 2 on our last lesson for 90% of the commands that would have normally been done with a mouse & keyboard. I was amazed at the power of Push 2. This video validated everything my mentor said and should be watched by any aspiring producer and musician regardless of their DAW of choice. As a musician, (guitarist for 40 years) there really is no better DAW to unleash creativity then using Ableton when recording ideas using Session View and ability to use this DAW in a live setup in so many different ways to fit your stye of music. This works because of the tight integration of Push 2 and Ableton. Thanks again for making these excellent videos and sharing them with the world. I realize how time consuming this is for you and I am a person who values time more than money because you can't get time back once it's gone. It always humbles me when a person like yourself is genuinely sincere about helping other people develop new skills. I look forward to watching all your videos. Thanks again for the wisdom. Greatly appreciated.

      HI Bob, thanks so much for your very thoughtful comment... it is people like yourself who end up inspiring me to make new videos as it is very important for me to pass on the flame to other people just like the flame was passed on to me back in the day from my mentors... and I too agree that ableton live and push are the best thing since sliced bread LOL! I am actually in the middle of putting together a full blown course on beginners finger drumming using PUSH 2 - you might want to check it out... I hope for it to be available in 2 - 3 months if all goes according to plan... (it never does HAHA!)... all the best for now, PUSH4life

    Great video! Nicely written, clear animations and concise graphics. Just watched this at a time when I'm getting stuck in "creative paralysis" because of too many pieces of hardware, too many VST plugins and sound clips, too many creative ideas, yet so little time to learn them all to a practical level that will enable me to execute and complete a single creative idea. You certainly nailed it on everything!

    • @PUSH4LIFE
      @PUSH4LIFE  6 років тому

      Thanks a lot... my advice would be to pick a couple of your favorite pieces of software and or hardware and go DEEP on them... instead of staying on a superficial level with everything else... you will go further in much less time that way... and you will also most likely be able to apply the new skills you develop that way to all the other equipment you have ;)

    I recently bought my Ableton Push 2 and was pretty worried about getting my way around it, but this video is truly inspiring and makes me want to spend all day making music. The 2 things you said that really hit me hard was the Gear Treadmill. Always wanting to get every single plugin and sample and as many tools as possible to emulate some sense of "creative freedom" but in reality, creativity comes out from being limited. As well as your other point of limiting yourself and working on the creative process instead of throwing your whole library at the wall to see if something sticks. Thank you again for these videos, I'm now proud to call my Ableton Push 2 an instrument.

    Oh. My. Goodness. Your channel is exactly what I have been looking for. I have been a huge fan of music the electronic side but never got into the creative side. Mostly because I have no full grasp of the things needed. Plus being overwhelmed by the toys and new technology that is stuffed down your throat. About a year ago I got a PO 33 knockout because I wanted to dip my toe in the water and see how it felt. About two month later I bought an opz. I love using them but I feel like because of my.limited knowledge it has been a hard learneing curve. I have since invested in a MacBook pro so I can eventually install a DAW so I can capture and refine what I create. Now I'm a hands on person and using a DAW I find cumbersome and tedious. I feel like I can't get my ideas out the way I want.... Until now. I watch your beginners guide to push 2 and I felt like my aha moment hit me. The push 2 for sure is the instrument I have really been looking for. I have been aware of it but didn't really understand it.... Until now. Your videos are so well done and exactly what a beginner like me needs to have the basic foundation into the world of Sonic expression. I am going to study what you have so graciously provided for this community. Thank you. One question is it worth I'm your opinion on hanging on to the opz? It feels like it isn't because through ablton live and the push I have all that functionality and more with live and push. Keep doing you because it's awesome.

    wow.. I have just got my "push" 2 days ego and started my way in e-music production 2 months ego with learning "live" by Abalton skills. This video of yours really focused me on my journey to find my real voice. It's not about how many plug ins or samples you own its all about what you can do with the vast amount of tool "push" and "live" has to offer and how to really know and master them. This idea of creativity that is used between A to B, B to C, etc. is a great layout to build hours of experience, not including flow triggering feels. I find it optimistic to have this boundary that you never have to leave just to go into debt for a new synth.

    Thank you for this great video. I love the concepts you're bringing up, I myself have a similar mindset. But sometimes I forget to appreciate what I have and do not realize that it is definetely all I'll ever need to make some - at least- decent music. The last years I bought music equipment, spent great sums of money on plugins and guess what? I made less music than when I only had an Amiga 500 and a soundtracker (yes, I'm that old:-)). You just reminded me of what is important in order to get things done again. And not to forget - to have fun. I love my Push2, it really boosted my workflow to a whole new level. But it's not the tools, it's dedication, passion and confidence, that all you really do from within your heart is good. Cheers mate, love your channel!

This information is golden, and the high level of video production just puts it over the top. Not only is the information great, the structure you presented it in made it very easy to follow along with. I think you need to add an 11th step, and make the first step: WATCH THIS VIDEO!

    I just started using push and I love it. I began with basic music theory and now slowly learning the hard skills with Ableton. The immediate feedback is what hooks me. I can start a session with just a drum idea,add a base line and then improvise for hours without realising it... Not that I'm anywhere near finishing a song 😜

    This is one of the best tutorial channels in history, thank you for taking the time and thank you so much for this video in particular. I am a new proud Push 2 owner, and must confess I was a little overwhelmed with the device, despite the large amount of awesome tutorials kindly provided by Ableton. You have taken the concept of instructional videos to a whole other level, not every day does your online instructor prompts you to expand on the philosophy of music making in general. Subscribed and turned on every alert available. THANK YOU!
