You didn’t have anything that didn’t work from the first try. Is it usually that smooth for you? I feel like at minimum I usually have one or two cringe moments. Haha you answered this at the end.
I don't think you realise how much of an inspiration you are to us. I'm an Ableton gal on and off for about 7 years (still learning always) currently coming out of a music production rut, you reminded me of how much I really love this and and how important this really is to me. At some point I started to struggle trying to fit myself into one music genre/style box, as I always produced more experimental and mostly wrote for others but releasing for myself became a big question mark, with all the socials and etc and I burnt out eventually altogether. It's was not that easy to get out of this especially without an enthusiastic supportive team to help (yet). You actually helped me reignite my passion that I had for so long and reminded me that this can be genuine and beautiful, and this IS important. And I 100% agree with you on saying yes and embracing mistakes, one of the most valuable lessons applicable to life in general in my opinion Huge thank you to from the bottom of my heart ❤ Btw your improv is absolutely amazing. I'm re-listening for the 10th time 💪Huge Bravo, you are super talented & skilled and bring so much light with what you do! Even on rainy days, please remember how much value you bring to this community and what crazy positive impact you have with what you do 🙏
I’ve been doing this in front of random people like busking and at coffee gigs because all technical and foundational knowledge all seem to disappear in front of the awareness of people being in your creative space. Doing that often is helping so much
I've been practising improvising at home with my set up for a while and this was a question I had. I guess getting used to being "in the moment" in front of other people is different that doing it by yourself at home.
@@robinlee28 totally. There is a filter that is added simply by having people present if you’re not used to it. It’s been tough and over a year and I’ve only just started getting into real flows
I suspect I'll have to have a sort of half prepared set and make the solos and melodies the thing that is improvised at first, so I can get used to being really in the moment in front of an audience. I guess I'll also have to do some coffee shops etc before hitting the clubs@@elijahlucian
Hello. Love your enthusiasm and obvious expertise in music technology. You’re great. Just a quick observation. Electronic rock bands were improvising live on stage 50 years ago. A good example is Tangerine Dream, a German rock band. For the first ten or fifteen years of their career every concert went in different directions. I’m no worried that over dependency on midi sequencing with DAWs and repetitive looping has stifled creativity and live improvisation…. I am just getting back into performing and recording electronic music (just for fun) after a gap of more than forty years! Watching videos like these helps me understand modern music making tools better. A big thanks from Australia!
Your attidude is so awesome. Your improv workflow is really similar to my jam workflow, get a session setup beforehand and everyone sorta does takes and loops in their bits, its a heck of a lot of fun, you would probably really enjoy just getting together with other artists and doing it
It is your enthusiasm that does it for me. I learnt a lot from your intuitive preference setting from your other videos and I've been able to integrate push2 into my live performance to make a whole lot of difference. Your works are indeed very inspiring. Thank you 💕
nice to see a different approach to the topic. One thing I often notice is, that the more simple things work better and create the better feeling at the end. Especially when layering, each layer should not be complicated, the magic is all the layers working together. I really like, how you create different tension in this performance and that pause in the middle, followed by a climax. This is often missing in modern music, it's often flat... I also like your happy nature... (not sure, how to say that most expressive in English, I"m not a native speaker, that relaxed feeling, when your brain is a unit with your feelings and you are radiating[?] that feeling to your audience)
Omg I loved your improvisation and I love how genuine you looked while performing. I am just starting to get into music and learning how to use Ableton so this video was very inspiring and made me want to learn how to perform live as well. Very good job!
Thank you very much for making it. So honest of you at the end. Really like to include some overhead views of the room. I will sign up for the Push 2 courses.
Great to see you performing live ! It is great to see you growing as an artist while teaching us along the way ! :) wish you all the best and hope to hear and dance to your music some day live.
Exactly what I'm trying to build these days. Great video, very motivating, thanks! I would add the absolute necessity to have the click in the headphones, especially if you don't start with rythmics, necessiting to have at least 4 outs on your audio interface. Thanks again!
Really amazing job on this. Sounds great. Would it be possible to show a really simple setup for live looping on push 2? Maybe something with just a drumrack for a beat, bassline and a synth part? It'd be great to see how to arm a track, record, move to next track repeat. Thanks!
"i took 8 years to learn ableton" ... phew, thought i was the only one! ( still learning) Great vid, lovely presentation as always! I think one of the biggest hindrances we have with this software is how open ended it is. A blank sheet can go so many places and it's up to you as an artist to channel it out of your mind into the daw. That's why there are so many ways to do the same thing in ableton.
This is great! I have a small but though. The thing I like most about improvisation in general is that the most magical things tend to not happen in making something perfect, it is the unexpected that makes the performance come alive. So maybe not focus too much on "perfect improvisations" (that's a lot of pressure to put on a person), but practise what to do with mistakes that inevitably happen instead. By mastering the mistakes they're not a problem, they become a natural part of the performance. That being said, following your timeline I still have 8 or 9 years to go before I'm ready for this, so take what you will from my comment. 🙃
I totally agree, there is no perfect improvisation. In electronic performance there is a level you can feel comfortable with your setup, but when it comes to creativity... there is no failure or "right" way to do it.
I would love to have a video tutorial on how to have a jam session with Ableton being the brain, and then having separate headphone mixs for each person jamming. Please!
awesome practice to break away from the clutter of ideas loops melodies we create everyday in our studios and never finishing or finalizing anything, very inspiring LNA, BTW what are you sing for vocals
OMG i love this channel... I was procrastinating about producing music... I love playing piano, and i have my push 2 stored... you inspired me to finally start producing... That nord drum is so cool but everything Nord branded is super expensive... And also. Do i need something like that modular thingy for being expressive?
Also i had so many mix feelings about Ai music... But finally start using it as a creative tool for multimedia purposes...Im a using Udio, and me being a musician, i asked for scales and bpm... But this wont recognize like that the plots i asking for... However; chat gpt could give you chord progressions and song structures(obvioulsy writed down)...You should make a video on how you would use Ai as creative tool...or what do you think about it...
Do you use midi learn with the monogram or do you have a special python script f.ex clyphx . That one is pretty good because I dont have push for fixed length recording . Great work youre good
@@LNADoesAudioStuff ahh well, I think it was the vocal and piano elements that really took me away. Thank you again though. Hi! I want to start live looping with various acoustic instruments and I need many mic imputs, so I was considering buying an analog usb mixer. Concretely the mackie profx12v3. Do you recommend that kind of device to work with ableton? Thanks a lot for the video!

Ableton should invite you to their Made in Ableton Live series. Your enthusiasm and honesty are contagious, and lots of fun to watch.

The first 6 and a half mins of this video is so on point. I can’t wait to get home and make my live improv rig!

lovely video, how did you know what key the vocal was in when adding the bass?
Thank you! I think I had decided a scale before improv. Makes it bit easier :)
At 11:25 how did you mute everything except for the bass and percussion? And how did you resume all the instruments at 12:21?
Brilliant
