2:19 No. Alignment is usually not indicated when replacing tires, where tire wear was even. Where the vehicle was already in alignment, there is no need to perform an alignment. Many cars can go 20 years without any need for alignment. Indications for alignment are 1) steering wheel off center, 2) replace steering components, for example an outer tie-rod end, or 3) uneven pattern of tread wear that indicates an alignment issue, such as wear around the circumference of one edge of tire. For the vehicle in this video, conditions indicated alignment, however most times, tire replacement alone, does not indicate alignment.

depends on the lift kit u got, some where they use the spacer to lift it, cause issues like that because it changes the function of the suspension..but the more expensive spindle kits if u got those then did they check the components for play? were the rims and tires used or new?
Thanks for the video. So all the parts in this video are new on my car. For informations sake, it is a 2009 Audi A4, these are all the parts I replaced; all front control arms (used the same ball joints), inner and outer tie rods, sway bar links and bushings, front struts, & rear shocks, front strut mounts, front & rear bump stops, front rotors and pads. The ride got better but I still have intermittent vibrations at high speeds, and a sort of lose steering. When I took it for an alignment, the mech said he was having trouble aligning it; as in anytime he aligned one end the opposite end would move a little, his advice was the steering rack is lose and may need replacing soon, but this was before I had this suspension overhaul. Now even after it, plus an alignment, there’s still vibration, from the symptoms could it be the rack? Because tire pressure is good, I had a wheel balance months ago so that should still be good. Apart from the rack and pinion, and ball joints, basically everything else is new in the front suspension.
@@backyardchevy328 cv axles can be out of balance? Would an alignment shop balance them? And I replaced both of them last year July so they have just over 10k miles on them. I’ll try and move the wheels side to side and see the amount of play.

Hey. I had side to side play in my car and suspected tires. I replaced inner and outer tie rods with new and there is still some side to side play. I occasionally hear a light thudding going down the road. Everything else looks good, what could it be? Steering rack maybe?
Do u notice if the lower control arm stays firm? If so then yea maybe the rack and pinion or the intermediate shaft that connects the steering wheel to the rack and pinion that can get play too
Well a shake would be similar..the vibration is just more wear and more play in the component..so youll still wanna check the tie rods(inners and outers), control arm bushings somethings that can affect the steering play
@@backyardchevy328 no play anywhere. I checked where the lower a arm meets the frame and tortion bar, but a lot of trucks have that cracked. Some one told me it might be the transmission
@@papatacomoto is it shaking at the steering wheel? The whole truck? If its steering it should be due to a component in the front end attached to steering system...if the whole truck is shaking, then yes it could be anything from motor mounts to ujoints..driveshaft etc

Could also be the inner tie rod, are those in good shape? If those are fine then yea that would be the rack that would need to be replaced, but u do wanna make sure its not moving the steering wheel when checking it for play though
@@WilliamHollinger2019 yea they all could cause it..a wheel hub u should be able to notice if the wheel spins uneven or if it has play..the cv axle would be harder to diagnose

Does anyone need to hold the steering wheel while conductin the test? The mechanic did not do this and it appeared the movement of the wheel was excessive as a result. I dont have steering wheel shake when driving.
Yes, itll begin to move the steering after a certain amount of force, i lifted it from only one corner so the other tire on the ground kinda holds it as u do the test..but it would actually work good with someone holding the steering wheel
Have u checked ur tie rods? Control arm bushings? Ball joints? If they look fine, i would just go over every bolt to make sure theyre tight..i fixed one recently that had one of the control arm bolts loose and it was causing vibration at higher speeds too.
@@Thicc_sabbath620 yea i would check for play, if it has play if u grab the top and bottom as well as side to side it may have a bad wheel hub... i would also check to make sure the ball joints and control arm bushings dont have play when ur checking it.

Thanks for this boss, now i know what is wrong with my car ( sort of ). Can you please explain why is my car shaking at certain speed after i changed my front tyres ? They not new but the threads are still good. Thank you in advance !
Did they balance the tires to the rim? Tires can have an unbalanced weight distribution and if a balancing isnt performed it can cause vibration due to that uneven weight distribution and that can be felt in the steering system

Hey I’m having this problem with my vehicle when I’m going between 50-60mph. It’s a 2012 Dodge Charger SE but lifted with a brand new lift kit and 26inch rims and tires. I just got an alignment and tires balance. What else could it be?
depends on the lift kit u got, some where they use the spacer to lift it, cause issues like that because it changes the function of the suspension..but the more expensive spindle kits if u got those then did they check the components for play? were the rims and tires used or new?
What if the left front tire is back towards the fender, an right tires is even between fender
Could be something like the control arm is pushed back or bent..or some other suspension component that is bent or damaged
Well explained

Well the two highest possibilities at that point are the cv axles being out of balance or the wheel hub/bearing having play
@@backyardchevy328 cv axles can be out of balance? Would an alignment shop balance them? And I replaced both of them last year July so they have just over 10k miles on them. I’ll try and move the wheels side to side and see the amount of play.
@@EJR20 yea they have a balance weight..which they are balanced from factory..unless theyre refurbished..on those they have lots of issues with that..but seems like the ones u replaced em with were new..but yea try for any wiggle from grabbing tire at top and bottom and side to side a bad bearing will have wiggle all around
Hey. I had side to side play in my car and suspected tires. I replaced inner and outer tie rods with new and there is still some side to side play. I occasionally hear a light thudding going down the road. Everything else looks good, what could it be? Steering rack maybe?
Do u notice if the lower control arm stays firm? If so then yea maybe the rack and pinion or the intermediate shaft that connects the steering wheel to the rack and pinion that can get play too
How about only shake without vibrating?
Well a shake would be similar..the vibration is just more wear and more play in the component..so youll still wanna check the tie rods(inners and outers), control arm bushings somethings that can affect the steering play

@@backyardchevy328 no play anywhere. I checked where the lower a arm meets the frame and tortion bar, but a lot of trucks have that cracked. Some one told me it might be the transmission

Hi I did suspension on my Toyota etios but my car is shaking a lot if Im driving 40kilos up what what can b a problem
Hi..if youve checked the suspension for play or damage and it looks fine..i would check the engine mounts to make sure theyre not torn or damaged..the cv axle to make sure its not damaged or that the boot is torn..check ur struts/shocks for any signs of wear and checking the wheel/tire balance and alignment check any of those could cause something like that
What if the tie rods are good but one of the front wheels has a lot of play in the rack? I guess at that point the whole rack should be replaced?
Could also be the inner tie rod, are those in good shape? If those are fine then yea that would be the rack that would need to be replaced, but u do wanna make sure its not moving the steering wheel when checking it for play though
My 02 honda odyssey may have this issue.
With a bad tie rod?
some say cv axle or LCA I think wheel hub.
@@WilliamHollinger2019 yea they all could cause it..a wheel hub u should be able to notice if the wheel spins uneven or if it has play..the cv axle would be harder to diagnose

Nice video. I have question. when moving the front wheel at the 3 and 6 o clock position, testing for problem with tie rod. I noticed it was inducing the steering wheel to move rotationally.
I've replaced my brakes and rotors, wheel bearings and new front tires but still have shaking at high speeds :( not sure what's going on.
Have u checked ur tie rods? Control arm bushings? Ball joints? If they look fine, i would just go over every bolt to make sure theyre tight..i fixed one recently that had one of the control arm bolts loose and it was causing vibration at higher speeds too.

My wobbling wouldn't go away after a balance. I took it to a different shop and they told me it was my rotors and a sticky caliper?

Well the main things that are left are ur cv axles, they do have a weight on em to keep em balanced and if that weight comes off or if the cv axle is damaged in any way it could cause bad vibration...i would also check the engine and transmissions mounts and possibly struts as well, if the struts go bad it makes the car bouncy in turn causing vibration
