    The Life lessons from wise old men are something else

    • @ringosis
      @ringosis 4 місяці тому +45

      I mean this is absolute fucking nonsense parading as wisdom. What is the lesson he's teaching here? Start with the big stuff in life or you wont have room for the smaller things...the big stuff according to him being family, and work being a smaller thing...so following his advice, start a family first and then start looking for work? What wisdom!
      What if the small things are what really matter to you? What does the sand even represent in this metaphor? If the stuff in the jar represents what you can pack into life, then why would putting the sand in first decrease the number of golf balls your can add later...it's about volume, not order. If the jar is like life then the way to get most into it would be to focus on the small, medium and big stuff with the same amount of effort because you want an even split of aggregate to fill the most space.
      The lesson you should learn from this man is that someone speaking confidently is not the same thing as wisdom.

    • @erickellar5867

      @@ringosis You cannot even understand something so simple its shocking.
      He was just giving a example but for most people a family and friends tend to be the most important thing in life.
      So cherish your mother and father and siblings while you can. Make friends and have fun. Grow up a little and get a job and make your own family. All of this can equal golf balls or pebbles for most.
      The small things could be you enjoy playing video games. But one should never take a small thing like video games and sacrifice there families and friends or careers just to play more. Another small thing could just be your morning coffee. Some people find small joys and happiness in a nice cup in the morning. But dont go to far. Dont buy a 10,000$ coffee set up and brew for 2hrs when you could be spending that time on the more important things like the golf balls for example.
      Now I do not know if you just are purposely trying not to understand but if you put the sand in first there literally will not be as much room for golf balls left. Because the golf balls will merely sit on top of the sand. The reason you put the golf balls first is so that the sand which is smaller can fill the cracks in between. Its a very simple thing to understand. And a easy thing to test yourself if you for some reason do not believe me.

    Truly a wise man teaching us a life lesson

    • @ringosis
      @ringosis 4 місяці тому +17

      The lesson this god awful metaphor teaches is that the golf balls are an inefficient use of space and that really if you want the most out of life you want to fill the jar with liquid.
      So I don't know....never do anything that isn't entirely frivolous is how you get the most value out of life...according to this guy.

    • @leenajoy8733
      @leenajoy8733 4 місяці тому +10

      @@ringosis I don't agree with that at all. Life isn’t just about having fun. The "golf balls" in the metaphor could represent the important things like relationships, health, and goals. Sure, the liquid might be fun, but if you only focus on that, you might miss out on what really matters.true enjoyment comes from balance. Imagine if you only did things that were frivolous. You might be happy in the short term, but what about your future? The "golf balls" are the foundation of a meaningful life. Without them, all that liquid would just spill out.the things that truly matter-family, friends, passions, even challenges that help us grow. The liquid is great, but it’s the golf balls that give our lives structure and purpose. A life filled only with "liquid" might seem full, but it could end up feeling empty in the long run.

    • @ringosis
      @ringosis 4 місяці тому +3

      @@leenajoy8733 Yes thanks...I'm criticising the metaphor not making any sense, not disagreeing with the general sentiment.
      He likens the jar being full to a life well lived, and then he shows that if you put golf balls in it leaves gaps and your goal should be to fill the jar. The point is...the best way to fill the jar is to not put golf balls in there at all...they just make filling the jar more awkward. So if the jar is life and how full it is is life satisfaction, then his conclusion that you should put the golf balls in first is incorrect...to most completely fill the jar you shouldn't put the golf balls in at all.
      The metaphor just doesn't work in any way. The whole thing is total fucking waffle masquerading as profound. I mean, remove the stupid jar metaphor and what life advice is he actually giving here? "Don't forget that the important things in life are more important than the not important things!"...wow...thanks guy...how would anyone have figured that out without the tortured golf balls narrative.

    • @erickellar5867
      @erickellar5867 4 місяці тому +6

      @@ringosis you are just not even trying to understand and if you are your attempt is just sad.
      Clearly for everyone what they find important is different but most can be summed up to family, friends, health, Jobs/passion. You should not for example take a small thing like video games and have it completely crush your family/friend relationships. Its okay to enjoy playing video games and to enjoy the small fun things. But dont over indulge to the point where you start losing the more important things.

    Can we also note how easily they thought the jar was full yet there still remained space for things three times and possibly more. Which really shows that so many are too quick to tell you to stop, to tell you that there is no more room for you yet clearly there is always room for improvement, to learn new things, to do new things etc.

      @@Astralwolf23 And you missed the point of what he was trying to tell you, like the professor said, "Is the jar full?" after he filled it with golf balls. Normal people will assume what he meant is the jar filled with golf balls. If he said "is there still space for anything else" then there would be different answers. But also there was more space for 1-2 golf balls and even after he added the sand there was still room :)

I wish I could help out the world, but I can't, I do what I can when an opportunity arises. Stop relying on others and seek peace within, recommend Jesus as he is my strength and the truth, but if you don't have some type of faith then yeah you're gonna be in agony your whole life. Is just reality. People can't be there with you all the time, we all fade away eventually, your peace has to come from within buddy, good luck out there.
