Those were the days when the real music was made.
Those days are long gone sadly. RIP to good music and thank goodness for UA-cam
One of my favorite music videos on MTV!
If you really think people don't make music like this today, you're kidding yourself. Just look and you'll find a lot of musicians who were influenced by these bands and continued the legacy.
@vladvasiljev…
Priceless music

Oh, this man can sing beautifully.
Was it " holding back the years, holding back the tears, because nothing here has grown"?
And he was hot! I have a thing for red haired men

My Dad loved this song. He passed away many years ago. Random times like tonight, this song pops up. Whenever I hear it, I feel it’s my dad saying “hello I’m still here with you” ❤
Hello, how are you doing? It’s nice meeting you here. Thanks for your love and support❤🌺You have yourself a wonderful day ahead 🌺🌺🥰🎶🎵
Yes, I'm sure that he is ❤
Oh my dear friend believe it
Ofcourse he is there with you. He just passed to the other side (we all will) and will come here and back/
Am Sorry ❤
To sing like that live is pure talent. His voice really cuts right through the mix.
Most Nasally singers do 🔥🔥
No computers to enhance his voice. No autotune to make him sound better. Just a microphone and pure skill. Powerhouse voice! No school like the old school. It will never be that legendary again. Now, we are stuck with this shitty no talent "woke" Era.

@@normgraham6658 in 20 years the people in their 50s will say there's nothing like 00s music. That's the passage of time for ya
Oh my gosh his voice was phenomenal. This song takes me back to 16 riding in a car in the way home from the mall just cruising to this. With a few friends. Good days music and times.
I'm 75 and I think you have to include the 60's... 70's... and 80's
My mother sang this song to us when we were little. Now that she's gone, I remember her with it.

It's like he doesn't have to try. It all comes so naturally to him. He looks so relaxed when singing. Amazing!
Brilliantly said Rudy. This man's voice is purely angelic. So, so great.
@@marygarcia1745 Probably thousands of hours of practise. That's what makes it look effortless
That voice, those chords, the rim shots, the trumpet with the harmon mute . . . one of the best balads of pop music history.

This is *_THE_* ballad. Phenomenal production, keys, drums, strings and that horn solo, everything. Can't forget the tragically beautiful vocals and lyrical performance. Amazing work.
This content is culturally significant. Posting it on UA-cam will ensure that future generations will have access to it and appreciate it. Thank you for sharing it.
What a fantastic performer this man is. Nobody else sounds just as good live as they do in their studio cuts as him, too.
Agree.. but, of course, this was 30 years ago!
Absolutely true, seen him unplugged too.
He does sound good, but 'nobody? Really, I have to disagree.....besides, this is only about six years after the original release date. And, as a retired professional drummer from L.A., I have heard bands live versions of songs that sound MUCH better than their own studio version.
@@drew-shourd agreed, but, there are those that sound total crap live.
springstein and Elton come to mind.
At 68yo I recently had an MRI and asked them to play this song. It felt like a journey in itself. What a voice from within
WHEN MUSIC WAS REAL!!!!
Bitter Sweet song for me. My late wife was in Her last stages type 4 cancer when this song was popular. Back in the day after she passed this song would bring up a lot of sad memories. But with time healing comes. When I hear it now I am remember the pleasant memories. S/Red thank you for your awesome song. Good music will endure through all the seasons of life.
Same here. I lost her 2 and half years ago. Sorry for you loss. P.S. That song was about his yearning to find his mother who abandoned him all those years ago.
This is why his live performance is so much better than recording material. So much freedom and passion.
This man’s voice is so naturally phenomenal!!!!!! There just aren’t words…❤
HE HAS A VERY BEAUTIFUL VOICE.HE OWNS THIS SONG NOBODY CAN EVER EVER SING IT LIKE HIM .NEVER.
Because its about his relationship with his mother.
Com certeza ele é único 😊eu o amo com todo meu amor 🥰😍🤩☺😚🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟🌟🌟⭐🌟🌟🌟❤❤⚘
agreed.....and maybe because he wrote it, and those words have deep meaning to him....
When I was fifteen, Simply Red were my great passion, especially this worderful man. Now I am 56, and I am still here.
Exactly the same here - 56 year old woman. Irony is, although I loved the song in my youth - and have the hearing loss to prove it, playing as I did at top volume over and over again on my Walkman - I lacked the depth of maturity to even understand it. I appreciate it all the more now.
One of the most relaxing tunes and voices of all time . the man has soul
I periodically come back to this video. I love the song, but this version of it just touches me to the core. At 64 years of age I hear the lyrics, "I've wasted all those years" and I realize, Mick nailed it.
I am 77 and feel the same. It goes right to my soul. Sometimes I cry ,sometimes I just listen and remember
@@cynthiagreen6506 I understand totally.
Mick Hucknall 's voice is just a pure as it was 20 years ago! BEAUTIFUL & SOULFUL
Possibly the most underrated singer of all time. Doesn't get the credit or recognition he deserves. Quite simply the best.

Mick Hucknall's voice is clear as a bell and simply beautiful!
Agreed, crazy how he never puts his name out there, what a cool cat.
I can’t believe he wrote this at age 17, truly a masterpiece.
Its the story of his mother (Mater) who left him and his dad when he was very young. Most of his early songs are very sad and about that experience.

Finally someone sings a live version that is more beautiful than the original studio version.
OH MY GOSH!!!! I WAS THERE!! Right in the front row!! Wonderful show!!

It wasn't always like that. When they were the Frantic Elevators , practicing above the Salford Karate Club, they were often burst in on, and beaten up.

A lot of people pay all their attention to Mick's voice but miss/don't pay attention to the mic technique he has...That is truly the sign of an experienced/knowledgable/gifted artist...To be able to control the mic like that while creating that magic that he does with his voice...It's amazing man...One of the most talented singers on this planet!

A song that exposed my plight in my own life & living. Nothing had a chance to be good, cause nothing ever could. Sad but did happen & it should never happen to anyone especially when caused by another. Holding back the tears holding back the years is over now. Thank God.
