In 2000, My Dad was terminally ill with lung cancer. One day we'd been out for a drive and I was taking him back to the hospice and I had this playing on a tape in the car. He'd never heard it before but he listened several times and absolutely loved it. I had it played at his funeral, very moving. I've only recently been able to listen it again....
I was watching this video, which I adore, and watching Neil look over with so much love at his son, who is playing the echoey fill guitar here, and I was imagining Neil having a few words with the audience, about telling your family members just how much you love them, and encouraging the audience to do the same. Especially parents and children. And I was thinking about my 28 year old daughter, who I told just this morning how much I care about her, and how wonderful I think she is. Then I read your comment. Something going on here. Peace and love.
My Dad also died of lung cancer, in his early 50's (myself in my early 20's at the time). This song randomly played in a cafe recently and I was transported back to our old home and his cassette copy of this album, that would often be playing. A bittersweet mixture of sadness and loving memories.

But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're travelling with me
… Hey now, hey now

To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
… Now I'm towing my car

My possessions are causing me suspicion
But there's no proof
In the paper today
Tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the TV page
… Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win
… Now I'm walking again
To the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead
Barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and release
… Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
You know they won't win
… Don't let them win (Hey now, hey now)
Hey now, hey now
Hey now, hey now
Don't let them win (They come, they come)
Don't let them win (Hey now, hey now), yeah
Hey now, hey now
Inspiring words...especially now in the States.

Could be an anthem for our future - we have to keep fighting against the dark forces.
Neil Finn has such a distinct and clear voice it’s sooooo incredibly uplifting and soothing, you can always pick it out of the crowd of even the Greats 👍👍👍
The universe lets no one die, this is a beautiful example....
In 1989, at the tender age of 8, I dubbed over my sister's New Kids On The Block cassette so I could record a mixtape for a girl named Megan. It's one of my most vivid childhood memories.
This song always hits me hard.
I bet your mixtape was 100 times better than NKOTB! 😂
Forest City Trivia...At that age I was still playing with toy trucks!!! 😉
lmao has your sister forgiven you yet?
I have similar early simping memories too
Megan...good Welsh language name
I'm a big Crowded house fan and It was absolutely wonderful to see them back on that big stage sounding timeless.
I rarely do this but I sincerely appreciate what you wrote about yourself and your love for my music that shows that you are really a nice person to be with in person.. where are you streaming
from,?
Dude sounds just like he did when this was a new banger on the radio back in the 80's...I was like 6 when this first came out and I've always loved it.
I’m 58 and remember when this song came out in the 80s. Truly never gets old. But what gives me chills is seeing these youngsters singing the worlds. And hearing that crowd. Man life goes too fast folks!!!!!
Lol..Why? Music is and will always be TIMELESS and knows NO age
Damn ! The Finn Bro's just age like a fine wine, they are impeccable musicians that have brought it for us fans for over 40 years. This is amazing.
Yep, they still fine🙌🏽 with beautiful music❤
@@pmoorepmkmoore3377 You said it. I have all of split enz discography and of course crowded house. One of my all time faves is the lesser known "dirty creatures" by split enz.
I agree they sound the same as they did all those years ago
@@bornflippy1 Oh i feel you on that one, even going back to the split enz days they were rocking, pure gems 🥰.
@@bornflippy1 yes one of my faves by split enz, I had the enz of an era best of cassette from 1982 which featured dirty creature, and last time I was in Australia in 1989 I saw split enz/crowded house live at darling harbour in Sydney, great memories 😊🇳🇿🇦🇺🎸
80's RULE!!!
Some songs are like diamonds. This is one of them.
Great performance. The band's ability to do it justice hasn't failed in the over 35 years since this song came out.
doesn't matter how many times I listen to this song I still get a lump in my throat, simply incredible !
Pure melody this 80s musicians played with their hearts bro. that's why this incredible music never die 🎸🎶🎵😄👌
I came looking for original and to see them play at Glastonbury is beyond wildest dreams
Their performance, pure class act and his voice is still as I remember from the radio when I was little 😍
One of the most talented musicians to ever grace this Earth. He has been putting out hit after hit for more than 40 years.
LOrd give me 10 seconds of the satisfaction of leaving something so timeless and amazing behind when i go as this song. Just breathtaking how easily it transports me back.
Saying hello to a long-lost friend (time) eventually comes to an end, but enjoy your life in between those moments. Time might age our bodies but not our memories, and those vibes wonder 🤔 what's beyond time. This is for all you❤ 🫡🫡🫡💯🥳
It’s so beautiful when the crowd sings along.
It gives me chills!!
One of the best and most underrated Australian bands.
Pretty sure they are from NZ
Great Kiwi band
Driving down 'memory lane' 🙂
I listened to this song for many many years to keep my impossible dream alive and I have finally achieved it 🎉
NO dream is impossible if you believe in, and work hard to achieve it!!
This performance simply blows me away. Criminally underrated, MORE PEOPLE MUST SEE THIS!
This just proves that this song is a classic. It never gets old and seems to get better with age. God bless Neil Finn, he's a great person and wonderful performer!
The 80s was my decade , I fell in love and fell out of love.
Been with Neil since the Split Enz dayz. A genius songwriter. Very nice to see the kids at Glastonbury showing him the love he so richly deserves.
NZ's (and Aus) finest - what an honour to have them in the UK!
Crowded House is absolutly stunning. For me this song is a masterpiece.
everything about that lead singer says wealth and the very good life. awesome.
What a beautiful redition of this classoc song. Neil Finn is one of he greatest musicians in history, songwriting and performance. The fact that his two sons are in the band and rock this song makes me fall in love with my childhood again. Ive met Liam and Elory multiple times when Liam was touring for himself (gracious and wonderful people) and I am smiling ear to ear watching this video.
I first heard this song in 1986 when I joined the army. Still sends chills down my spine.
Thank you for your service
This song is the same age as me: 37
More Crowded House, please and thank you! ❤️
When you write a GREAT song … …timeless
I have just hit 65, I was in my prime when this song arrived, a lot of my family and friends have sadly gone now, I become really emotional when I listen to it. I become really emotional at most things nostalgic these days. a beautiful song, from happier times.
What a song, never fades!
Wonderful. Crowded House - Kiwi and Aussie band. Brilliant. Clean. Iconic.
They put on a great Show. It's great having Glasto back again.
Born in 1999 but this is one of my favorite song ever. May God and protect and bless this guys.
Best song of the 80's
