Some might read the title of the video and think "oh, cool, I don't have to read, I wasn't going to anyway". If that's the case, I suggest you watch the entire video first. Reading is very important, it has many benefits for your brain, and unfortunately, school prepares us from a young age to see reading as a chore or as something unpleasant. Then there's the other type of people who only read Personal Development and Self Help books, and that's mainly who I'm targeting with this video. The Self Help industry is making billions of dollars every year, often selling sub-par written content that gives the illusion of personal growth. There's so much more value in a novel, or a history book, than you will ever find in the average Self-improvement book. So although I'm talking about why you should read less, the moral of the story - spoiler alert - is why you should read more, or why you should be more selective with the type of books you're reading. Looking forward to the conversation in the comment section. - Комедії

This is kind of a side note, but one thing about reading books that are regarded as classics or milestones in literature: if you don't enjoy them, don't read them. If you think the The Old Man and the Sea is boring, don't finish it. Forcing yourself to read something because you want the academia points isn't as gratifying as it might seem. You can definitely appreciate what certain books did for their genres/mediums/time period, but they're not all going to be for you, which is perfectly fine.
Yes. It's totally true if that classic book and its author had an audience in mind, i.e. a mostly European audience.
Yea I love the lord of the rings but hate the slow pace of the books to death I never finished it

True!!!!
This is true bcz every person is different, different in taste, style, perspective, etc. And in my experience, do something that you'll like as long is not illegal, it is a very benefit thing.
Like i love playing games, but i tend to study about games like graphics, frame per seconds, even about how to advertise it.
So, try to do something that you like and it has a good benefit for your life
Reading books for school with 50,000+ words: I hate this, reading sucks. I’ll never finish this.
Reading y/a romance, sci-fi, and fan fiction with 100,000+ words: piece of cake, binges it all it one week or less.

I mean, yea, school forces you to enjoy books and if you dont they get pissed
key word: for school
@@patrickthebunny2626 you just explained the whole school system in a short sentence, school just teaches you, you have to like it! @@bdulrahmanarzani27 That is true they don't know how to teach students
Pro tip: don't read only serious books about serious subjects that teach serious stuff. It becomes very boring very fast and reading a "fun" book every second week is way easier.
switching between heavy and light stuff is one of the best advice you can give to someone. Reading "Three Men in a Boat" after one of Murakami's novels literally made me understand both better, because they were so different
Yes- and fun books are a great way to introduce diversity. If you like a genre (sci fi, fantasy, etc) find half a dozen or a dozen books from authors of a different gender, race, or country than you are used to.

I'd recommend the Keeper of the Lost Cities book series by Shannon Messenger. The books' lengths go from 400 pages to up to 1000 pages, but the story is very eccentric and will keep you hooked.
Thanks for the tip 😁
I definitely prefer writing more than I do reading. Sometimes it’s nice to sit down and start typing out a story you have a vague idea of and start fleshing it out or simply noting down your thoughts or feelings. There’s something that feels nice about reading over your own work and improving it.
Reading books is not just a habit. Think of it as something like gaming. It's a way for you to escape your worries for a while and calm down. It's no pressure if you don't wanna read a book but if you really wanna develop it as a hobby, you need to start enjoying it. The same book doesn't work for everyone and you don't have to force yourself to read it if you don't like it, even as an avid reader. Try searching for a book that fits your interests and tastes, based on you're preferred genre. When you get the 'Just one more chapter' feeling, know that you're in. Except textbooks. If you don't read them you're screwed.
Now that's a good tip! :)
Boring
I agree with you when you say "don't have to force yourself to read it if you don't like it" but I think it's kinda better to try to read it first. Some people may not know what kinda book that interest them at first so even if a book may seem boring, you might find it interesting after reading. I'm kinda talking about like don't judge a book at the cover but instead of like reading the first few pages of the book, maybe go read the interesting parts like the climax.

The problem with the LOTR movies is... This is not material for a movie. Of course it's epic, but in the movies you miss *so much* stuff from the lore. I know, this is movie etc. It's just my opinion and I'm a pain in the ass about it.
Tolkien is a slow heavy readings, that's true. Sometimes it's 5 minutes of reading how the grounds looks like !
The Hobbit is more enjoyable and accessible, it's designed to be a children story at the beginning. I always recommend to read it before the actual LOTR. Plus it was writed before LOTR.

Dune is a saga around the years 10000, the humanity now lives mostly in space and nobody remember the good old earth, there is hundreds of thousands of worlds with human.
It's a kind of space opera, sci-fi, fantastic saga where you read about all the univers is working between their biggest force.
It's about the story of how a boy become the one and some peoples are seeking for thousands of years. It's about religion, war, economics, politics...
Dune, or Arrakis, is a sand planet where giant worms are living. Somehow, there is "spice", a kind of powerful and mysterious substance that extand life, allow instant traveling in the univers, allow you too see possible futur (called prescience).
This is a bit heavy to read, but not as the LOTR.
Honestly I’m only on Prison of Azkaban but I can say Harry Potter’s sticking on me

I will never understand people that brag about it….
Second it’s easy to dismiss this type of humans….As mentioned in the video, we get a lot for free from a book if we take the time and don't just consume it! my vocabulary, my way of expression expands, the more diverse the topics I deal with, the more my thoughts tend to abstract thinking

Really good video, Andrei. I was an avid reader in highschool, but when I got to University, the sheer amount of non-fiction technical books I had to read per month made me hate reading altogether. It took me 5 years to find the passion to read again, but not without searching for those "how to read more books" videos and feeling disappointed that I cannot keep up to the "pieces of advice" they gave.
Great video. Although I was aware of these things prior to watching this (and I think you missed a few interesting points), it definitely raises awareness about some very crucial problems of today's society. I learned how to think properly through reading web novels (fiction), mainly written in Asia and translated to English. Most of them are filled with redundant (non-realistic) content, but if you can filter it, there's a lot of valuable and thought-provoking information hidden inside. If anyone's interested, some of my favorites are Lord Of The Mysteries, Trafford's Trading Club, and Warlock Apprentice. All of them promote independent thinking.

When I got my Kindle, I downloaded a ton of free books. It's amazing how much classic literature is public domain and available for free on Amazon. My goal was not to read a certain number of books, but to read a lot of books that everyone has heard of but most people haven't read. Alice in Wonderland, Dracula, War of the Worlds, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the Time Machine, just to name a few. Then I bought a couple of books, like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which are very popular but which I had never read. I don't care how many I end up reading, or how long it takes me, I just want to read them.
Last year I set a reading goal of 50 books. I decided at the start that I wouldn't pressure myself and I won't care if I don't read that many books. But then I still felt kinda pressured to finish and I did catch myself thinking that I should maybe pick a short easy book just to catch up. Maybe it was because I set it on Goodreads and it very much likes to tell you how behind in your challenge you are. This year I set a smaller goal, deciding that I'll follow the advice you say in this video.
I always feel bad for young people on social media, when they get sad because they only read x amount of books, whereas their favourite book influencer read twice as much. I will see people on Goodreads that read 300 books per year. But then you look at the books and see a good portion of them are manga, which can take just a few minutes to read. I do appreciate manga and comics, don't get me wrong, but I think we can all agree that mangas are generally short books and you can read several in one day.
My opinion is you can read whatever you want, but you should never feel pressured into reading hundreds of books in order to be a "true" reader. You are true reader if you read books, regardless of how many or what genre (and that includes comics) and if you enjoy reading.

I think a variable that's missing from the evaluation of audio learning vrs physical books is learning styles is the VARK questionnaire. The VARK questionnaire is a test where you answer some questions about what types of studying is most effective for you personally and what types are not effective for you, and then based on your answers it tells you what your learning style most likely is. I got audio Learner and since then every time I need to study for something I make a recording of my notes the night before the test and then listen to it on the car ride to school and I've found that it's so much better for me than book studying. I don't think that reading is the best way to learn for everyone and I think what's more important is to take the test and learn what learning style is best for you so you can apply that style whenever you're studying because it's better to learn with your style than struggle trying a learning style not fit for you.

I'm reading 36 books per day
pretty easy all you have to do is look at the images
Just read the title, who said you couldn't do an any % speedrun?
Or read those books for 6 years old kids
I recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. I read it last year, and it really helped me.
Nice video!
This is the wake up call I needed omg. I got into reading English books about 6 years ago and the first book I read was ‘if you could see me now’. The book was so highly confusing (I process stuff really slowly) that it took me two months just to finish the book. But after finishing that book holy crap it was like something clicked in my brain and my English started to improve basically overnight. Then others around me also started reading and I would often be made fun of because I take a long time to finish each individual book. By the third year I’d would finish a book with 400 pages within two weeks but I could not remember a single thing about whatever I’ve read. It was really stupid because I can still remember the contents of the first book I ever read but I can’t seem to visualise what I read literally last week. My English skills were stagnant at this point no matter the amount of books I was forcing into my brain and reading became kinda boring. Thank you for this video. It was truly an eye opener and the slap in the head that I needed.
Remember to just be happy no matter what. Life is short. Happiness is not a destination. It’s already inside you. Do more of what makes you happy⚡️
Thank you

But isn’t life the longest thing that we go through?
Not doing my homework makes me happy, therefore I shouldn't do my homework
The Outsiders have caught my interest recently and I don't even read books like that!

I ended up getting a one hundred but it costed me my favorite series ending
@@jaredsabatelli2459 lol
The murder of Roger Ackroyd is a great psychological murder mystery. The ending just blows your mind. 100000 percent recommend
@Ariella K-C which one is your personal favorite?
@@SharkSalesman90 I know I'm not the person at whom this question was directed, but I really wanna talk about Agatha Christie's books!
Ackroyd is always one of my favorites of hers, but have you read the ABC murders? I really love that one!
Me too. I never suspected Clarke!
My favorite short stories collection was the Hounds of death.
@@SharkSalesman90 ooh haven't read those.
Worth getting into?
I usually read books in the young adult or teenager section in the library. One of my most favorite series is the Dream series by Kit Alloway (Dreamfire, Dream fever and Dream forever). Two other series are the Trylle trilogy and the Kanin chronicles, both by Amanda Hocking. Hope you like it!
Race in the rain is probably the best book I read, I love reading and the book made me cry and had topics that made it interesting

“If you’re looking for self-help, why would you a book by somebody else. That’s not self-help that’s help. There’s no such thing as self-help; if you did it yourself, you didn’t need help. You did it yourself.” - George Carlin

@MXSKED ACE it was a comedic joke mr r/whoosh
@MXSKED ACE look up george carlin
@MXSKED ACE
I mean, you didn't need self-help. You just needed help in general.
I don't get it
One of Carlin’s stand ups was: people who ought to be killed, and this was his first attack.
the ting is, I dont know where to start. theres just so many books to start
This video as a concept pleases me
I highly recommend the book “The light in hidden places.” It’s a novel closely based off the true story a teenager during WW2 named Stefania Podgorska who hid 13 Jews in her house with her little sister in occupied Poland. I have read the book twice now and I love it.
Sounds amazing. But i cannot bring myself to read such books. I will plunge into depression and my mental health will plummet to zero for days.

I would like it but its at 69 likes.
But i don't give a shit so imma like it
reading is the medium that strike the perfect balance of being
descriptive enough that it gives you idea and your mind goes to places but
not descriptive enough that the idea only settles to one form where you don't need to imagine anything since it's already so clear
One of my tips for making reading less stressful is reading at night. Not only do you have more of time, but it can (maybe) help you fall asleep? Plus, it always helps me take my mind off of the stressful things in life, including the stress of trying to read

I’m gonna be honest, I barely read ever since COVID-19. But now o think I should read more, unlike your tip in the video to read less. I didn’t even know that others bought about 52 books to read. I’m still finishing some of my longest books. I’m probably gonna read shorter ones in the future to balance out the book lengths. Also things like reading aren’t enjoyable when others force you to read. In fact, that applies to everything!
I usually don't comment on any video but this comment will be helpful....
A very good video for those who are starting to read books..... Now a days most of the people use books as vanity metric... Studies shows us that READING > listening/seeing.....
A great saying : If u want knowledge read and if u want to remember then teach....
Essentially, reading like a maniac won't make you a billionaire
