Thank you, Matt, for bringing us along on this peaceful trek on a beautiful lake RATTIN for some smallies, it just doesn't get any better than that! Take care and be safe.
You’ve inspired me to go back to fishing after a couple years and it’s been about a week. I’ve watched a bunch of your whopper plopper videos and I want one for myself but I’ve gotten told by my brother that they are ment for bait casters and not spinners (what I have). Your videos are amazing and keep up the good work.
If you have a medium action you can throw the 75 and 90 size no problem. If it’s a medium light then throw the 65 size. I’ve caught hundreds on a spinning reel and plopper. I add a barrel swivel to the split ring, it stops line twist. Also the lower gear ratio of spinning reel is a good thing for a whopper plopper.
You can run a Whopper Plopper on spinning gear, the only problem you might run into is with line twist. The Plopper tends to twist up your line quite a bit and you’re more likely to have issues with that with spinning gear. Eventually the line will twist up and tangle as it’s jumping off the spool on a cast.
Making your own lures is so freaking fun and awesome, especially when they are effective on the fish. The first experiment I ever did, I just took a tube bait and a finesse worm, and shoved the finesse worm inside the tube (with the tail sticking out of the back). I used a worm hook and worked that thing just like a jerk bait, and slayed my local ponds.

Very wise of you not to stay out long if you didn´t get enough sleep the previous night. Feeling sleepy on the drive back home is very dangerous. Sometimes I stay as long as an hour after sunset hoping to catch some big bass on a surface lure. Afterwards I drink a heavy coffee before coming back home, but the sensible attitude is ( if you don´t intend to spend the night nearby) is saying "that´s enough for today even though there´s still much day light, time to leave!".
I was kind of on my night editing schedule so I slept in late the day before. It’s no fun driving tired though. Coffee always helps on the way home and the other trick I always used when I drove for a living was to eat sunflower seeds if I was feeling tired, that seems to help keep me alert.
@@ndyakangler What a coincidence! that´s just what I learned from a co-worker only five days ago: eating sunflower seeds. Another co-worker objected "ok, but then you have to let go of the steering wheel". After an exhausting walk fishing when I get to my car in the dark I drink my heavy coffee (oats "milk" with coffee, actually) eating five cookies, which is a very light meal that keeps you from sleeping while giving you a good boost of glucose to your brain.
