    Our daughter had cancer for 13 years. She passed away last February. About 4 years ago, she said she wanted to go fishing. I thought she was joking because she had never shown any interest in it before. I started taking her to a couple of lakes, and she loved it.
    I'll always have those memories. Needless to say, I can't bring myself to go anymore.
    You do a fantastic job, keep it up!
    Thanks!

      @@larryreed7455you definitely need to get back out there. She would want that. My cousin Mikey was my fishing buddy. He had Down syndrome and passed away a few years ago. I catch more big bass now and I swear it’s because he’s still fishing with me from Heaven. I think about him every time I catch one and remember his excitement.

      Es un relato terrible que le llega a uno al corazón. Lamento mucho el fallecimiento de su hija. Esos cuatro años con ella compartiendo jornadas de pesca fue de lo mejor que pudo hacer usted por ella. Creó un vínculo muy intenso entre ustedes. Dios le bendiga.
      Le deseo que retome cuanto antes esta magnífica afición. Será muy doloroso, es verdad.

    You’ve inspired me to go back to fishing after a couple years and it’s been about a week. I’ve watched a bunch of your whopper plopper videos and I want one for myself but I’ve gotten told by my brother that they are ment for bait casters and not spinners (what I have). Your videos are amazing and keep up the good work.

    • @rhodesianhunter9360
      @rhodesianhunter9360 5 місяців тому +8

      If you have a medium action you can throw the 75 and 90 size no problem. If it’s a medium light then throw the 65 size. I’ve caught hundreds on a spinning reel and plopper. I add a barrel swivel to the split ring, it stops line twist. Also the lower gear ratio of spinning reel is a good thing for a whopper plopper.

    • @bradbarnes9241

      All i fish is spinning reels headed to Canada smallie fishing. Whopper plopper alreadyntied on!

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  5 місяців тому +24

      You can run a Whopper Plopper on spinning gear, the only problem you might run into is with line twist. The Plopper tends to twist up your line quite a bit and you’re more likely to have issues with that with spinning gear. Eventually the line will twist up and tangle as it’s jumping off the spool on a cast.

      Making your own lures is so freaking fun and awesome, especially when they are effective on the fish. The first experiment I ever did, I just took a tube bait and a finesse worm, and shoved the finesse worm inside the tube (with the tail sticking out of the back). I used a worm hook and worked that thing just like a jerk bait, and slayed my local ponds.

Often times I am afraid to pull the trigger on purchasing some, as the cost of some of them are higher than I would like to spend. Very wise of you not to stay out long if you didn´t get enough sleep the previous night. Feeling sleepy on the drive back home is very dangerous.
    Sometimes I stay as long as an hour after sunset hoping to catch some big bass on a surface lure. Afterwards I drink a heavy coffee before coming back home, but the sensible attitude is ( if you don´t intend to spend the night nearby) is saying "that´s enough for today even though there´s still much day light, time to leave!".

    • @ndyakangler
      @ndyakangler  5 місяців тому +1

      I was kind of on my night editing schedule so I slept in late the day before. It’s no fun driving tired though. Coffee always helps on the way home and the other trick I always used when I drove for a living was to eat sunflower seeds if I was feeling tired, that seems to help keep me alert.

    • @antoniomora1255
      @antoniomora1255 5 місяців тому

      @@ndyakangler What a coincidence! that´s just what I learned from a co-worker only five days ago: eating sunflower seeds. Another co-worker objected "ok, but then you have to let go of the steering wheel".
      After an exhausting walk fishing when I get to my car in the dark I drink my heavy coffee (oats "milk" with coffee, actually) eating five cookies, which is a very light meal that keeps you from sleeping while giving you a good boost of glucose to your brain. I only have some occasional yawns shortly before arriving home.
      The main issue then is that once at home I have supper at an insane late hour and my sleep pattern is somewhat destroyed!

    Matt, on top water baits with two sets of trebles, do you ever cut, debarb, or remove the back treble ?? I find them to be dangerous to both me and the fish. Typically the fish hits the front one the vast majority of the time. The rear one then swings around to impale the fish in undisireable locations, (ie., eyes, gills,etc.). Or just as bad, wants to impale me during the release process. I've some i've done that with and it doesn't seem to affect the action or the effectiveness. Was just wondering about your experiences. Thanks.

      Ashtabula or Spiritwood would be your best bet in eastern ND.

      @ndyakangler spiritwood is that small er lake I see? And that river going thru valley city was my other plan. Hopefully we can find some fish.

      @ndyakangler do you have any small lakes that you could share or I can join you on? I was looking for the off the beat n path lakes with little to no houses or traffic.

    Nice spot. I'm curious, most smallmouth fisherman I see on my local water throw lures at the shoreline. I personally find the biggest fish in deep water (20-30ft) disassociated from the shore. Do you ever do any deep water fishing?

    @ndyakangler I noticed you use fast action rods even for treblehook swimming lures such as this. Is there any applications that make you want moderate? Trying to put together a 2 rod set up to handle as much as I can and was curious.

      I generally stick with mono line for those lures, the little bit of stretch compensates for a fast action rod a little bit. I prefer fast or extra fast, that’s really all I own other than maybe one or two rods I never use.
