  • These clamps from Harbor Freight are great, the only con is the color (reminds me of Auburn). For 9.99 I will get over it.

Thanks for sharing this great idea. I was going to make a T track workbench, but dog holes seem way cheaper, easier and faster to make.

Older clamps by HF also had removal ends but with screws/nuts and not the new method . They are all generally reversible for spread clamping.
Never thought about using them on my ancient Workmate clamping bench except for an edge clamp.
Now I can use the dog holes on my Workmate thanks to your video!
    Well done!

My Dewalt and Irwin clamps that I already have can do the exact same thing. As for the color, Spray Paint works great.

Don't know about yours but my Irwins have a fiddly screw thing you have to unscrew to take it off. Not a big deal in normal situations, but a bit more of a hassle when reaching under my bench. I like the sound of the push button feature.

@@BillCoale I just replaced the screw with a M4 thumb screw approx. 12mm long since I swap them from clamp to spreader a lot. Just make sure to lock the nut in place with a dab of epoxy or it will fall out and you will never find it.

Great, so we all need a torsion box for this to be useful. Unfortunately it’s not very useful.

That is not a torsion box workbench, it is a Paulk Smart Bench, and the top is only 3/4" thick whereas a torsion box top is much thicker as it is two layers with a kind of honeycomb web in between them for extra strength and to keep the top dead flat.
Here is a link to the build video for the Paulk bench. ua-cam.com/video/Bt77_jugVZs/v-deo.html

Richard is correct. I ordered the Ron Paulk plans (only 10 bucks) then put them in a drawer and built them with completely different dimensions. I plan to add banks of drawers in the bottom.

@@crimsonwoodworking9609 Well we have to give him a little leeway since it looks like he is Much more into being a Car Guy than a wood worker. Not to say he can't do woodworking as well. 🏁
