    We explore deep inside the Port Glasgow Air Raid Shelter in todays video. Used during World War 1 and World War 2. The Shelter itself was built by the Birkmyre family (they owned the nearby gourock ropeworks factory which has now been developed into flats) it was built for the employees and their family members and could hold more than 1000 people, on the 2 nights of bombing there was thousands of local people trying to get into the shelters for protection, this caused scenes of mayhem and panic at the time of the Raids.

    Must have been absolutely terrifying . Bombs , lights out , running for cover, In school we had air raid drills.

      I know you can only imagine how frightening and scary it must have been to have bombs drop around you.

    Likes the LIDL sticker on the Keep Out notice. And the WW2 footage is really helpful to give context - and dread.

      Thanks Rob, yeah I was trying to give a sense of what it must have been like to be down there at the time.

      Just be careful if you visit, some parts aren't in the best of conditions.

      I checked it out online and wow those tunnels just go on and on! I'll bet there were places you guys couldn't go. Do you guys wear re breathers?

    • @AbandonedScotland
      @AbandonedScotland  8 років тому

      Yeah we wear masks if we are in doubt. Some places we don't though it all depends on the condition of the place.

    One of the most eeriest places I have ever seen. Random question though - why did the warning sign at the end have a Lidl logo on it? lol

    Great video very nice edit but ehr LIDL? +The bloody allies dropped bombs on my town just b4 the end of the war, bunch of blind maggots lol they missed the germans by a mile.

    • @AbandonedScotland
      @AbandonedScotland  8 років тому +1

      Thanks Rolf, haha yeah I think both sides had plenty of missed targets back then. There wouldn't be any advanced targeting systems to use.

      My mother was a War Bride from Hannover, most of which was flattened, and she worked as a Red Cross nurse on a Luftwaffe airdrome, whilst my Dad was an AA gunner during the Blitz on London. The whole world were trying to kill each other: what a bizarre and stupid way to behave.
