    John, your recipes are always fab; but I just wanted to comment on how well made your videos are. The editing is great, straight and to the point - no wasted time needlessly (or should I say kneadlessly?) watching repetitive actions, like so many amateur cooking videos that bore you to tears. Your music tracks are easy on the ear, and don't drown out your voice. Don't change a thing (except your recipes of course!). Cheers, and keep up the great work!

    In my area of Germany we call them „Berliner“ and we enjoy them around February, at the,time of our carnival! 😍 My mom always made them for us and it was an amazing treat when I was little! She filled them not only with jam, sometimes they even got a vanilla custard filling... 😍 Childhood memories! Nowadays they are more experimental with the fillings, you can even find some filled with „Eierlikör“ which is something like an alcohol based egg nogg 😇. But red jam is and will always be my favorite! Have a great summer time! Jutta

      jsdesigns ...we called them "Jambusters" and they are still my favourite type of doughnut, but you won't find them in doughnut shops....

    Chef Kirkwood, it is a pleasure to watch you work and that you use every bit of your product and not wasteful by leaving bits in your bowls. It is also a relief that you are very hygienic, and not like these TV chefs, especially the females who cook without covering their hair while in the kitchen.
    When I was in culinary school studying Pastry Cooking, my chef instructor graded us on our clean appearance and wearing our tokes, besides how well we did our products.

    You can't beat freshly made hot doughnuts, cinnamon are my fav as though I do love the odd jam doughnut, I tend to find the cinnamon doughnuts a bit less sweet and more to my liking.

    Oh my goodness!! I did not know the trick for rolling out bread dough. I made homemade pizza once and loved it, but the dough was such a pain to roll out, I never made pizza again. You have me wanting to make homemade pizza now. :)

    In Germany we call them „Berliner“. You get them at every bakery with all different kind of filling, but jam is the traditionell. And they are best right after filling them with jam. 😊

      Funnily enough, in the actual city of Berlin, however, they're normally called 'Pfannküchen' (lit. "Pancakes"), which, as I understand, is what the rest of the country uses to refer to what we Anglophones refer to as pancakes.

    John says elsewhere that 74F is the perfect room temperature for making bread. EDIT: I made these and filled them with plain custard and lemon custard.

      Thanks again for watching Pieter, one correction my friend, I never ever use cups or measuring jugs in my work commercial kitchens, or my videos, they are way to inaccurate for me, and would never recommend them.     I'm going to try a variant on this recipe (if you don't mind). I shall put raisins in the dough rather than injecting them with jam, then finish them with a sugar/water glaze. This ought to recreate the long-lost favourite that used to be sold in Tim Horton's stores in Canada - the Dutchie! If only my new KitchenAid mixer were here...

    When I made custard filled doughnuts I pipped the custard in the top and dipped it in chocolate glaze to cover the hole👍
    Awwww seedless bramble jam is my favorite jam there is nothing like it here unless I mix seedless raspberry with seedless blackberry no damsons either 😔
