In case someone reads this before going on this ride, some tips from my experience: - Try to get first (or second) row, I was last row twice, it makes some scenes a little harder to see and you don't feel the water where it should be. - Try to get on the first cart, if you are on the second, you see the first cart in front of you, which takes a little bit from the experience. - Don't make the safety bar too tight, we got stuck at the end of the ride (where the carts park for a moment before you head to the exit) for 25 minutes and had the safety bars locked pretty tight, which made our feet fall asleep after a couple minutes, and that hurts.
Um, I've been on it and you do NOT get a choice of where you sit. The attendants tell you which row to sit in. I went alone twice and was put in the second row every time.
Went to Universal a few years ago & tell ya the truth? I remembered absolutely nothing from this ride. I remembered that I'd gone on it, I've got pictures from the line to prove it, & I really loved the theming in Gringotts itself but I had absolutely no memory of the events of the ride till they played in the video. I can remember those little stage shows they put on in Diagon Alley & the village just fine, and I vividly remember whatever ride that was in the castle but completely forgot the one with the _dragon_ Though tbh, the biggest thing i remember from the Hogwarts castle ride was going in as a solo rider & needing to run on the moving platform to catch my ride. All while the staff were like "gogogogogo!", that was fun.
I finally understand the story line of the ride. Up until now it just seemed like a hodge podge of Death Eaters, Voldemort and the trio throwing spells around and the cart careening about. Thank you for that.
It kinda bugs me that actors who made a life time living can't come back for a few days of filming with basically old friends. Just seems disrespectful to the fans and source material
Yeah it would seem like not the big a deal especially for fans and what you basically owe an entire career to but it seem like Daniel and probably Emma don't really want to associate with Harry Pottee anymore now that they aren't under contract. Which is kind of sad because Daniel will always still be Harry to most people even if he does other amazing and different roles.
But They Still are, you can't hide from your first huge. I mean maybe one day they'll do something bigger but I doubt it Potter is this generations Star Wars @@AlexYadaYada
Ive rode Escape from Gringotts twice, and Ive never seen the pre shows or all the stuff before the ride as I always used the single rider queue as it was always an hour or less wait rather than 6 hours :') So seeing all the preshow stuff was really interesting to see, Thanks! :)
I know what you mean. When I was there regular line was lime 1 hour and single rider was 1 minute or automatically board. 🤣 I understand the want for wanting to ride with friends / family the first time or two but after that why not just save hours of time and go through the other line?
When I went on the ride for the first time last November, I was really disappointed. As a die hard Harry Potter fan, and a massive fan of Forbidden Journey, I was expecting to love Gringotts but I left it heartbroken because it was just not that great. One of the biggest problems I had with it was the arbitrary shoehorning in of Voldemort. He served no purpose and was cast aside so flippantly, it really undermined his character as the ultimate villain of the franchise. And there's no way he would have encountered Harry there and just ran away like that. The ride was almost entirely screen-based, when I was anticipating much more physical sets like FJ. I knew it was more screen heavy going in, but I didn't think it was going to be like 95% screens and 5% sets. The original version probably would have been a lot better because it wouldn't have screwed with the HP canon like the current ride does. They should have stayed true to the story and made a better ride that actually made sense.
@@kjdraws9159 I doubt it was cheap. It probably cost well over $100million. There were just elements that were poorly executed, especially in comparison to the elements that were done very well. Also in comparison to Forbidden Journey which is possibly the best dark ride ever made.
TheRealConcertKing you’ve raised some good points, and i absolutely agree with them. it’s just that universal sticks with virtual reality rides more than physical ones. gringotts is partially physical, but they could’ve done a lot more. i’m glad nothing bad happened with hmcma
I remember waiting in line for maybe around 2 hours to ride this on my first and so far only visit to this park. Honestly, I remember it being worth the wait. My biggest regret is not being able to go on it more than once due to the long lines
The roller coaster Hagrid's is so bad that I gave up. Went at rope drop and it just kept breaking down again and again. After nearly FOUR hours in line and hearing more delays and seeing the empty cars go around for another half hour, I gave up. it's a disaster and should be either rebuilt even if it takes a month or two or torn down and replaced. The ride is hardly new, it opened over seven months ago and is still plagued with all kinds of problems.
This is my favorite of the Harry Potter rides in the parks. I had no idea there was a whole other story originally planned for the ride, among all the other behind the scenes details.
Can you do a history of Disneyland railroad?! Why does it have the Grand Canyon and prehistoric scene? And why is Peter and wolf playing during the Grand Canyon scene? I’ve always been curious.
HOLY CRAP! I separately subscribed to this account and BattlefrontKnight without realizing any correlation until you plugged this video in your latest Battlefront video. Mind. Blown.
How is JKR gonna tell an amusement park to stay true to the essence of her work and then hop on Twitter the next day to completely retcon said work????
I've stopped reading any new books or seeing any new Harry Potter-based films since she went all weird, claiming Dumbledore was "supposed" to be gay all along and that Hermione was "supposed" to be black. Seems she conveniently forgot that she did mention in one of the books that Hermione was definitely NOT black.
@@largol33t1 the only mention of Hermione's skin was in the Prisoner of Azkaban book where they greet harry in diagonally, it just said that she looked tanned and Ron had more freckles, in nowhere in the book apart from Kingsley Shacklebolt is skin colour mentioned for any character and when they were preparing the film script for the Half-Blood Prince in 2008/9 Rowling told Heyman that Dumbledore was gay so I don't get why people are so upset by this. She left a completely open look for the characters in the way of skin colour and sexual preference and her main focus for her storytelling was the plotline. It's only in recent years that people have become so obsessed and sensitive to skin and sexual preference information.
@@charlessoutherton8946 Some people really just don't want a gay character, it's true. They also have not heard all the background information for the set-up, and think it's just Rowling pandering to the Twitter hate mobs who keep demanding stupid things BECAUSE INCLUDE!!!!! pretending they're saving the world and still hating just the same when they get them. I haven't heard any of it, but I also don't remember a reason he *couldn't* be gay... Some people are sticklers for continuity and also missed the fact that there's no reason Dumbledore couldn't be gay. Then again, some continuity errors are massive and if you have an entire series of films where you've used a white actress, making her suddenly black is a sideways hit that leaves you with a production like an abysmal end-of-year primary school play. If Rowling wanted her black she should have cast a black actress for the movies. And, some people just don't want any noticeable changes, at all costs. For them it will automatically suck, whether it objectively does or not.
I helped open this park and remember having to help give out water and sell food to folks in the Gringotts line. There were days where it literally never moved. We couldn't even ride it for the employee preview but it was so fun the second we got to
The new (technically fourth gate, if you count Volcano Bay) has been rumored for a long time until the leak this year. The main rumor for Potter though is the Ministry of Magic (MoM) of anyone has time to read further into it. Most sensible since we have Hogwarts and now the Forbidden Forest taken care of. It's only time before Lost Continent bites it too... :/
I’ve been subscribed for a little bit, and I was quite surprised to see you mention this video on your battlefront channel when the video randomly popped up in my UA-cam recommendations. I’m not sure if I should say that video sent me, or that I came here from enjoying your yesterworld videos.
If you've got a 3D telly and have the glasses to hand, the 3D footage actually kind of works! It's not proper 3D, but you can see some of the effects working.
I get that J.K Rowling wanted the ride to both be true to the original source but also not interfere with cannon story plot (even though she is going back now and changing things herself.) I always felt that theme park rides were always just in their own storyline. Its a ride, after all. Its not really suppose to be taken seriously as cannon to the movie / books. Its just suppose to be faithful to the source material and entertain.
In 2014 I was stuck on this part of the ride. I got to see the screens and what it’s like below the ride. I case no one knows, you’re about 25 feet off the ground for the ride, and the ride can self-right when on a hanging segment.
Daniel Radcliffe needs a little humility. I understand he doesn't want to be typecast, but it's a ride, not another movie. Without that franchise, he wouldn't even have had a career whatsoever.
@@legoghostyoda those are only cool because of Potter's influence. There are videos that talk about Disney's plans for Harry Potter, and it wasn't good. There is a reason JK went to universal.
I'm glad they missed out. They would have ruined Diagon Alley. Disney's plan was terrible: They did NOT want to build Hogwarts Castle and they wanted the entire "land" to take up a FRACTION of the size it is today. There would have been no way to fit Diagon Alley into Fantasyland. That's how misguided they were. Thank god Universal gave Rowling a lot of power to determine how everything in the park would look. She was insistent that Diagon Alley be large enough so that nobody could see the other parts of the park over the rooftops. That way visitors would be immersed in Harry's world. Smart psychological trick there. Interestingly, someone did marketing research on both theme parks. Universal sells more cups of butterbeer than all the drinks Disney sells in Galaxy's Edge! I'm not surprised. When I went there, the butterbeer stands were crowded and this was in January, which is basically the off-season!
Everyone in the comments getting mad about JKR's rants about Dumbledore's sexuality or Hermione's race but they're all complete ignoring the most insane rectoning where she explains how witches and wizards use the bathroom by taking a dump literally anywhere and the magic it away, after she wrote a whole book where a bathroom was literally the center piece of the whole plot.
Universal Studios, I remember when I stole...err..borrowed their studio park idea. In the long run, it was a great idea. DHS is about to get even better with the addition of Galaxy’s Edge. Everybody loved Toy Story and I know everyone will love Galaxy’s Edge
@@andrewreegs6319 I think he's talking about when he stole the idea from Universal and made his own studio park, and that he's happy for what Iger has done for the park
You mean Bob Iger's everything is obscenely priced, cheap, plastic looking, and pretentious Star Wars (but not the Star Wars you know) area? Yeah! People love 200 dollar plastic lightsabers and 8 dollar coconut milk, I'm surprised you didn't do it in the 90s!
I remember while riding Escape from Gringotts, My foot actually hit something below the ride vehicle while it was moving. It didn't hit hard enough to cause any damage, But I felt it for sure. No one seemed to care..
Honestly the fact it contradicts canon so hard is really annoying but not more annoying then the fact the Wizarding world part of Universal references guests as muggles and contradicts canon I feel much more.
I love how Helena Bonham Carter who is a huge star was fine filming a few scenes for this but Daniel and Emma were too good to come back. Come on guys its just for fun. They should have done it.
HBC is older, established and at a more comfortable point in her career. Dan and Emma (and maybe Rupert to a lesser extent) were trying to figure out what kind of work they wanted to do outside of HP. Typecasting happens quick and it's hard to shake, and also they were probably burnt out on the whole experience. As much as the ride is for the fans, it's also for the studio to make a shedload more money.
Wonder what another expansion could bring, I can’t think of many non muggle set pieces other than maybe the Weasley Burrow and the ministry that have yet to be used
They could also do a ride based on Tom Riddle's past or make a replica of Godfrey's Hollow. I wish they would at least make a land based on the Ministry of Magic. Imagine the kinds of rides they could cram into that.
The Gringotts "ride" was a massive hype and even more massive disappointment. The motorbike ride was the real attraction the area needed. Now, one park has better setpieces and immersion, and the other has better rides. I blame Universal's asinine reliance on simulators.
Is the narrator Kevin Perjurer of Defunctland? I enjoy both channels. Just curious if Kevin regularly narrates for Yesterworld. Could be my speakers, but it sounds like him to me...
I think this ride is my favorite of the Wizarding World rides, even including Hagrid's. I just love the setting, the preshow/queue, the story, really everything about it is just so good! Hagrid's is definitely more thrilling, but I feel like this is a little bit more magical :)
I'm sorry did I miss something? Where was the part of 'The Original Gringotts Ride? I watch developing Issues and disagreements with the studio and author, however I never heard anything about an ‘Original Ride' Title implying that it was built and then discarded for a newer version. Most of this was just a video about the ride in general. Unless it's closed now, which could be the case. I live in California and they never built it here, they probably closed it down because of said issues I assume.
I like videos about how IPs or similar concepts are used at multiple parks with different owners. You should compare Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Disney's Avatar and Star Wars Lands...since those happened partially because of Disney seeing the success of HP at Universal after not getting the rights to HP for themselves.
See, I didn't mind the storytelling, the screens, the set up, etc. My issue was it being in 3d. If you are going to turn people facing straight down suddenly, don't give them glasses that can fall off and ruin their experience. The first time it happened to me, I thought it was just the glasses were a bit too stretched for my wee lil head. Second time the same thing happened. Now instead of enjoying the ride, I have to be conscious of holding my glasses at certain parts.
So, Gringotts and the first HP ride exist in two separate locations in two separate parks. I always thought they added Diagon because people would go to the "wrong" park lol It seemed like a ploy to get people to pay for two-park passes
So I went on this for the first time a few weeks ago. I was by myself so I took the single rider line -- you miss so much of the story that way! I had no idea what was happening -- didn't help that the audio wasn't very clear either.
In the "off-season" (January and September) expect wait times of under 30 minutes IF you go in the mornings on a weekday. I have no idea what it's like on weekends, I planned my visit for January from Monday to Wednesday. I don't know if weather played a factor, temperatures were unusually cold for Florida at that time of the year. I stayed at Cabana Bay Resort and people were angry that Volcano Bay was closed because of unexpectedly cold weather. There are two massive trade-offs for going off-season: in September, that's hurricane season. The airport was closed on the very day I planned to go! I was forced to cancel (ALWAYS ALWAYS buy cancellation insurance!). I waited until January and was shocked by the weather reports: it wasn't going to hit 70 degrees in the mornings. I dressed in long-sleeve shirts and wore jeans the entire time I was there. If you stay at Cabana Bay, the pools are all heated so that wasn't a problem and I did go swimming twice.
I went during Christmas and the waits were worse than when I had gone in July. There might be a calendar you can look up to see when their slow times are. Try to go when kids are in school and not on breaks.

I can remember those little stage shows they put on in Diagon Alley & the village just fine, and I vividly remember whatever ride that was in the castle but completely forgot the one with the _dragon_
Though tbh, the biggest thing i remember from the Hogwarts castle ride was going in as a solo rider & needing to run on the moving platform to catch my ride. All while the staff were like "gogogogogo!", that was fun.
When I went on the ride last time, after bill asks: “are you okay?” a girl screamed: BETTER YOU ARE HERE and honestly I will never forget that
I finally understand the story line of the ride.
I've personally always felt that way too :(
Yeah it would seem like not the big a deal especially for fans and what you basically owe an entire career to but it seem like Daniel and probably Emma don't really want to associate with Harry Pottee anymore now that they aren't under contract. Which is kind of sad because Daniel will always still be Harry to most people even if he does other amazing and different roles.
The more I think of it he still didn't escape being in the ride, so he might as well have gotten paid for it.
It sucks that they didn’t want to come back but I can understand that they didn’t want to be known just for that role.
They should have stayed true to the story and made a better ride that actually made sense.
it’s such a cheap ride. this is why i’d rather go to disney more
@@kjdraws9159 I doubt it was cheap.
Meh.. I thought it was pretty fantastic.
They should just made it a coaster
I went to orlando a month ago and rode this and it was awesome. Last time i was in orlando was in 1994 so it was a great experience.
Should have gone as a single rider. My wait was 5 mins
This is my favorite of the Harry Potter rides in the parks. I had no idea there was a whole other story originally planned for the ride, among all the other behind the scenes details.
Went recently and loved the ending remarks on the ride
@@charlessoutherton8946 because people are racist and homophobic. Simple as that...
@@TheRealSweedie Simple? Real life? I believe you overestimate your chances.
We couldn't even ride it for the employee preview but it was so fun the second we got to
Do a history of Rip Ride Rockit
Great overview, just rode both new rides and the train a few days ago. They were amazing!
The Reupload starring Bette Midler
love this ride and even my mom and grandma said this was the smoothest ride at the park 😍
Gringotts is such a short ride
Any chance you'll do a video on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (both DL and WDW versions)?
The new (technically fourth gate, if you count Volcano Bay) has been rumored for a long time until the leak this year.
The main rumor for Potter though is the Ministry of Magic (MoM) of anyone has time to read further into it.
Most sensible since we have Hogwarts and now the Forbidden Forest taken care of. It's only time before Lost Continent bites it too... :/
They currently are having construction on the 4th park which is named "fantastic worlds". Its a hub to stem park as well
I’ve been subscribed for a little bit, and I was quite surprised to see you mention this video on your battlefront channel when the video randomly popped up in my UA-cam recommendations. I’m not sure if I should say that video sent me, or that I came here from enjoying your yesterworld videos.
If you've got a 3D telly and have the glasses to hand, the 3D footage actually kind of works! It's not proper 3D, but you can see some of the effects working.
I went on this ride last year, it was great.

Morgan the Magnificent CYOAR! 👍
Morgan the Magnificent LOL
Literally my favorite ride at Universal Studios/Island of Adventures
Forbidden journey is still my favorite but this is a close 2nd
It was forbidden journey for me until hagrids came.
Daniel Radcliffe will always be known as Harry Potter, period. If Danny manages to get another roll, fans will always say, "that's Harry Potter!"
And? He has more than enough money to never act again. It's his decision.
This is why he does the throw away fun movies, because he can and they are glorious.
@@MrStGeorgeIllawarra Yeah.... It's not like these dummies ever go broke.
To think Disney could have owned all this! Im glad the mouse missed out!
idk... seeing what they’ve done with Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora has me wondering how cool a Harry Potter land could’ve been
@@legoghostyoda those are only cool because of Potter's influence.
The intro always gets me going :D
Everyone in the comments getting mad about JKR's rants about Dumbledore's sexuality or Hermione's race but they're all complete ignoring the most insane rectoning where she explains how witches and wizards use the bathroom by taking a dump literally anywhere and the magic it away, after she wrote a whole book where a bathroom was literally the center piece of the whole plot.
Hayride ride is like mummy revenge except you're outside and not inside where it's dark, plus it goes forward and backwards
Universal Studios, I remember when I stole...err..borrowed their studio park idea. In the long run, it was a great idea. DHS is about to get even better with the addition of Galaxy’s Edge. Everybody loved Toy Story and I know everyone will love Galaxy’s Edge
Hey, didn't you resign 15 years ago?
@@andrewreegs6319 I think he's talking about when he stole the idea from Universal and made his own studio park, and that he's happy for what Iger has done for the park
@@AverytheCubanAmerican Why are you on every UA-cam comment section???
We are all muggles, what's the issue? You want they should pretend you're a witch or wizard?
Can you please do The History of Mr Toads Wild Ride At Disneyland and Walt Disney World
Hi Quinn! I had no idea that you were on this channel. pretty cool
Why is scrapped in the title? I thought that this was going to be a video about a ride that never happened or a ride that was a failure.
Because the original concept was scrapped. There's plenty of whiny Harry Potter fans who don't like the ride because of the addition of Voldemort.
Great video! well done
Totally agree... The Hermione on the train sounds terrible
Why is Joe rohde in the universal interview lol??
I screamed after noticing him.
How does it nut turn into a giant shitting contest if you do Disney and Universal together?
MasterKenobiWan this is the weirdest fucking comment I’ve ever seen and that’s saying something
just rode on the ride a few days ago so good
They should've made an attraction that involves running between various goblins to obtain various paperwork. A true experience in bureaucracy.
Wonder what another expansion could bring, I can’t think of many non muggle set pieces other than maybe the Weasley Burrow and the ministry that have yet to be used
Roger Pessimistic The rumors are that it would be themed to Fantastic Beasts, so likely a Wizarding New York like with the London section.
They could also do a ride based on Tom Riddle's past or make a replica of Godfrey's Hollow.
I wish they would at least make a land based on the Ministry of Magic. Imagine the kinds of rides they could cram into that.
Amazing video, thanks for this... we were just there, totally amazing.
Each time Bill Weasley saves you, everyone in the car should yell, “Thanks General Hux!”
I was just at universal studios Orlando it was sick I got picked for olivanders wand expireance
Those are not trolls. They are Mooks, larger (stupider) versions of goblins, usually used as muscle or enforcers.
Glad my article could help provide some background info. =)
Fuck yeah double drift is back!
Dewit!!! Love your battlefront knight channel!
Holy I had no idea you owned the battlefront night channel as well. Huge fans of both
Can you do the history of the Railroads at Disney Parks (Disneyland Railroad, WDW Railroad, Western River Railroad etc.)?
I think many would agree it should have been a crazy rollercoaster..
Great video! Love your stuff. Could you do Kim Possible World Showcase?
I remember when we rode they let us skip the whole line because they were scared we were too big to fit in the ride vehicles 😂
I was on the ride when it broke down. Believe me the projections flash out of order, spooky shit.
I think this ride is my favorite of the Wizarding World rides, even including Hagrid's. I just love the setting, the preshow/queue, the story, really everything about it is just so good! Hagrid's is definitely more thrilling, but I feel like this is a little bit more magical :)
I need to get on that ride.
I find it so funny how Rowling wanted to give them strict guidelines, not to contradict, etc. And then she okays the disaster Cursed Child.

Escape from Gringotts Starring Bette Midler!
"Flagship attraction"
Well I suppose when you're alone you're the flagship by default.
I do wish they had another attraction in the area. Universal deff has too many shops and not enough rides.
@@vianjelos It's sandwiched between Fast and Furious and Fear Factor Live, give it time
I'm sorry did I miss something? Where was the part of 'The Original Gringotts Ride? I watch developing Issues and disagreements with the studio and author, however I never heard anything about an ‘Original Ride' Title implying that it was built and then discarded for a newer version. Most of this was just a video about the ride in general. Unless it's closed now, which could be the case. I live in California and they never built it here, they probably closed it down because of said issues I assume.
Bluewolfe love auto correct thanks:)
I clicked on the video thinking the ride had closed but it hasn't. I was quite confused.
Joe Rhodes face in this video is priceless
Can you talk about the island of adventure halloween event, island of fear. The jurassic park scare zone jp extinction, and project Evilution
As someone that use to wear regular glasses, 3D was unwatchable and I ended up really not liking this ride.
Was that defuctland talking?
Also can we consider a waterpark as a gate? That would mean WDW has 6 parks/gates
So, Gringotts and the first HP ride exist in two separate locations in two separate parks. I always thought they added Diagon because people would go to the "wrong" park lol It seemed like a ploy to get people to pay for two-park passes
Are there two different people that do the narration for this channel?
So I went on this for the first time a few weeks ago. I was by myself so I took the single rider line -- you miss so much of the story that way! I had no idea what was happening -- didn't help that the audio wasn't very clear either.
Looks like a lot of fun, but I wonder what the wait times are like, particularly in the summer.
Love Harry Potter!
