The #NissanZ is back after a year long hiatus and for 2023, #Nissan is going to its heritage rich past to get lots of design inspiration for the new #Z. It gets a standard 400 HP twin-turbo V6 engine and a 6-speed manual transmission and at a base price of $39,990, it could be the bargain sports car of the decade, deliveries start this Summer.

The auto is better for the straight line power. The manual on the other hand must have that perfect launch, which is very hard to do, and you must shift fast and not miss ...
A bad launch, slow shifting or a miss shift will cost you the race and or time.

Excellent review! I am new to your channel and I am very pleased with the detailed and honest review you gave. I've been looking for a sporty car for a long time that doesn't break the bank. I was down to the Mazda MX5 but it's somewhat lack luster power plant had me in the wings. I did want a convertible but this new Z with it's reasonable price is now at the top of my list. I can do without the convertible with all this new Z car has to offer. One of the BIG plusses is that it's completely made in Japan and the Supra is not. The Japanese have it down and their quality control is unsurpassed. I'm still saving for a good down payment so I'm now leaning toward the 2024 Z. Finally after looking at cars for the past four years I believe I've finally made a decision and you made it a lot easier with your most excellent and detailed review. Another excellent review.
I had a 260Z back in the day, and pretty much everyone I hung out with had a 280Z, with a 240 in the mix as well. The 300 versions never did it for me, so I’m excited to see this form being brought back. The tails of the ‘74-‘77 Zs were the best design, but the original 300 rear still looks fresh, so melding the two is an aesthetically pleasing choice.
The only thing I don’t like about the exterior of this new Z is the grill. It needs a body-colored bar to divide it. Grills on modern cars are what fins were in the 1950s - some are wacky (BMW) and some are just fugly (Avalon) - but designers seem to be tripping over themselves to make them weird and/or distinctive.
The interior isn’t too terrible, but I prefer analog gauges and real knobs, because I’m old. I think touchscreens are going to get people killed because you have to take your eyes off the road to adjust anything. I would not be surprised if they’re outlawed soon due to distracted driving rules. Sadly it won’t happen until some idiot in a Tesla or Rivian kills a vanload of kids.
As far as manual v. automatic, I’m auto all the way these days. I drove stick for 30 years (Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, Ford Ranger, Mazda 626, Mercury Capri) and it’s just no fun any more. One, because I’m old but mostly because of traffic. The US population has increased from 230 million people when I got my license to 332 million today, an increase of more than 50%, but we’ve only added 3% more roads. 40 years ago highways were practically deserted; now they’re always packed. To avoid knee replacement due to start/stop/stand gridlock everywhere, I’m only buying automatic transmissions going forward.

The thing with the modern automatics is that you can manage a really low 1st gear ratio and get out of it very quickly up to 2nd. Optimizes torque when you combine good traction control. I found my '20 Mustang GT Performance Package (pretty low final drive at 3.72) was pretty useless off the line trying to balance wheel spin and speed shifting. At this point I'd go auto. My $.02
