I think the issue with RB2’s graphics is that, because the models are imported from the first game without adding detail for the fancy shaders to highlight, the hair in particular looks very rubbery (especially black hair that lacks unique detail). Goku’s hair, for instance, looks like they took a plastic cast, pored black rubber into it, pulled it out, and didn’t bother adding streak lines to make it look like hair. Xenoverse 2 has this “oiled up😈” look to it where the shine on every character’s skin when transformed is hyper aggressive, drowning out the detail in the face and body rather than enhancing it. Only recently with some of the DLCs (Restrained Broly, Beast Gohan, Orange Piccolo, etc.) did they tone down the aggressive oily look to add actual shading to their models (including any transformations they may have).
RB2 has overall better graphic though rb 1 characters look way too pale imo and some of the attacks look too bright. Rb 2 is perfect on those aspects instead
The developers Spike (now Spike Chunsoft) creates some of the most accurate and beautiful Dragon Ball character models ever, which is why Sparking Zero looks so good. They're responsible for the Budokai Tenkaichi and Raging Blast series, and those are the games I like the best. Dimps on the other hand CANNOT make accurate Dragon Ball character models to save their life. The closest they've ever gotten is with Burst Limit. Dimps are responsible for both the Budokai series and the Xenoverse series, both of which have character models which look weird and off. The Xenoverse series ESPECIALLY looks like hot garbage.
i love how clean and clear the visuals are, some might call it barebones looking but it makes everything very readable, looks more like the manga than the anime to me
It seriously took 9 years for a Dragon Ball game to look better than Raging Blast 1. Also, its weird knowing that RB was really the last hoorah for Stephanie Nadolny’s Gohan and Linda Young’s Frieza
Although i love what sparking zero looks like graphically, i wish the character models had physiques more reminiscent of this game. I kinda feel like characters like goku and vegeta are a bit too flimsy looking, and their necks are kinda small. It just looks a bit off to me. I don’t want them to be carbon copies of the raging blast models, but it’d be nice if they were as bulky as them.
i dont know i just really love the art style i really like how sparking zero and kakarot looks but i think there is something unique in fighterz that i really like
Very cool that someone finally made a video on RB's artstyle. Always something that stuck with me as a fan since childhood. especially seeing the massive step up in graphics between the Budokai/Sparking series.
I will never understand why people kept asking for a new Budokai Tenkaichi when RB 1 and 2 are clearly the spiritual successors and played basically the same and ironically enough Sparkling Zero looks less like BT3 than RB1.
@@xGusth I've been saying this for months now and it felt like I'm the only person on the planet. It bothers me even more when people make side by side attack comparisons using Tenkaichi 3 but skipping over Raging Blast....even though a lot of the sparking zero attacks are based directly off of Raging Blast's attacks lol
There were significant differences between Tenkaichi and Raging Blast despite sharing the same core formula. Largely Raging Blast stripped down many mechanics from BT(RB1 removed follow ups, directional blocking, Z-counter 2's, smash timings, max power bonuses, and movement was terrible as some general changes). A few common moves were removed and limited to single character's signatures. The only substantial improvement was RB2's assault chase system. Sparking Zero is taking from both series, but the gameplay shown leans heavily towards BT. The followup chains shown in the gameplay previews are straight out of BT3.

I actually completely agree that RB visually looks better than RB 2 and its the same reason with the super saiyan hair detail. That off white hair when theyre not powered up just sells it. Feels like youre playing in an episode of DBZ so much more. If I could have RB visuals with RB 2 gameplay I would be happy asf. That said Im so hype for Sparking Zero, it looks GORGEOUS

But then the extra gleam from RB 2 grows on you after a while and it's super nice and crisp. They both look so good!
You're 100% correct on this one. This game matches what the anime looks like extremely well. I don't know why other people say other games look better when they hardly do.
This game was what basically started Dragon Ball for me and will forever be my favorite Dragon Ball game, I even still find myself playing the single player modes to this day when I'm in the mood for it. The graphics, cutscenes, special moves, everything about this game was amazing and was a huge part of my childhood. Raging Blast 2 I'm not really a fan of either especially with how it controls, though it's not at all a bad game, just not for me. I do hope one day they do come back to this series and make a Raging Blast 3. The raging blast series overall has needed an update for years now. Sparking Zero I can't wait for however.
I think I remember this channel you did the dynasty warriors gundam series right?! those games are surprisingly my childhood despite it being gundam of all things. these videos are getting so much better, keep it up! I can't wait to see the Raging blast 2 review (if you ever play it) as its another one of my childhood favorites.
Also in the cutscenes you could tell the difference between a SSJ in normal state and when it's powered up the hair starts to glow for an example Goku vs Cell and Vegeta vs 18 scenes.
I always preferred raging blast 1 models over the ones in rb 2, it has to do with them being plasticky, i always associated them with action figures and such. Great video btw!

It wasn't intentional, my intent was to show a late PS2 era Dragon Ball game. But, you're right, Burst Limit would've been a better comparison. Just like Raging Blast, it holds up really well visually.
The problem is that some of the art directors like to get experimental with the formula, and that's how you end up with that sort of plastic, gooey look like RB 2 and Xenoverse 2. With cel shading in 3D games less is more, which is why FighterZ, Kakarot and now Sparking Zero look amazing. I love that in FighterZ they came closest to the anime because of clever keyframe animation and replication of anime framerate. But I think Sparking Zero probably has the best looking character models and cel shading on par with FighterZ (if not a tad better). Just my opinion.
RB looks probably better than RB2 but the ultimates of RB2 are some of best ever seen. The gameplay as well was very deep in RB2, I always wanted a trilogy of that series. Hoping Sparkling Zero will follow up from it
Kind of a shame devs are forced to make games always look shinier since I think this is just the right look for this type of DBZ game. I remember a lot of people being really impressed about how this game looked before it was released. I don't personally feel the appeal in the graphic style of the other DBZ games in the videos aside from Fighters.
My personal opinion on RB 1 and RB 2 is that 2 really messed up by not having the cool What If mode that 1 had. 1 had some really fun, fully voice acted, what if scenarios. Like SSJ3 Vegeta pummeling every other SSJ3 character in the game. Another thing I will point out? The XBox 360 version has the better music AND a Japanese Rock song for it's title theme. Just look up the OST for the 360 version of RB 2, I'm sure you'll love it.
It’s wild cuse at the time RB was considered boring looking because Naruto ultimate ninja storm was showing up every other anime game that was released.
lol using infinite world as a comparison in looks because it came out in 2008 is a little misleading😭 that game came out for ps2 after the ps3 was already out, but u do agree that raging blast looks great!
Yeah raging blast 2s characters looked more like action figures due to them adding the more softer edged shadows and highlights …I felt like they should of kept the hard edge cell shaded style from the first game, perhaps just added details using the style
NO! Other DB game has got the whitish blonde SS hair correct. I love that detail, and it’s not hard. No aura or light aura light blonde hair. Aura yellow gold hair. So simple. Love that
@@JarboeGaming it does but still it’s meant more for the symbolism not an overall detail. It’s the symbolism of his original golden golden SS hair when he first transformed. Budokai 1 doesn’t an alright job of it.
Honestly in terms of visuals it stands equel to Kakarot, I dont count FighterZ as a fair match up as its basically a 2D game so they could put way more attention on the art direction for that and the devs have extensive fighting game know how so even more time to spend on visuals, but yeah out of the 3D DBZ games Raging Blast 1 is basically top 2, I need to see more of Sparking Zero before I can really make a call if it gets knocked down a level.
Kakarot is the first 3D game to have models that looked better than the Raging Blast Series and that's really sad when you consider it was a decade with a handful of games in between the two
I would argie burst limit (which game out 1 year before) looks better. The trick RB1 uses is to have almost completely flat shading and only add small details. The sequel for a example has a super weird shine on everything. Of course, the 3d models themselves also do a very good job of being able to look fairly accurate without needing to constantly deform them like they do for other games.
I feel this is because dragon ball games really dropped the ball visually for a few years. Imo I never liked RB graphics. I loved BT3 graphics, and before someone says it's nostalgia, I just want to say that sometimes simpler is better. I appreciate the new things raging blast brought, like the new camera angels and split screen of the ultimates, the experimental colors in lighting sometimes, etc, but In all honesty it didn't feel like an "upgrade". For one, the animation of the models feels stiff, they don't feel like they're actually fighting, half the time. For all of the derpiness of the BT models, they felt like they were interacting. Also, the outline feels tacked on, the lightning engine will make it so there's a bunch of light in the same place as an outline even thought an outline is supposed to be shorthand for a sharp shadow, or separation. Lastly, the faces for a good amount of characters look fatter than usual, maybe that's just the yamamuro style talking, but it makes it look like there's hardly any separation between their jaw and their huge chest and neck muscles. I don't want to sound like I'm spoiling your fun in your video, this game actually looks better than xenoverse and RB2 like you said, what I also feel is that this game had a lot to be desired as well.
Raging Blast was my first game and I got it back in 2014 Honestly was visually stunning to me and way smoother compared to raging blast 2, which ended up looking more like plastic, and the dash even looks a bit off

Yeah Sparking Zero is looking amazing. Can't wait!
Adding reshade to this game makes it look like a 2017 game
You have flufy ssj goku hair in raging blast 2 lol
Raging blast 1 is my favorite video game of all time
RB looks probably better than RB2 but the ultimates of RB2 are some of best ever seen. The gameplay as well was very deep in RB2, I always wanted a trilogy of that series. Hoping Sparkling Zero will follow up from it
fun fact: Ultimate Tenkaichi is a sequel to the raging blast series despite saying tenkaichi for the US
Kind of a shame devs are forced to make games always look shinier since I think this is just the right look for this type of DBZ game. I remember a lot of people being really impressed about how this game looked before it was released.
I don't personally feel the appeal in the graphic style of the other DBZ games in the videos aside from Fighters.
I grew up playing raging blast 1 and i gotta say it was the best ps3 game ive played.
Ultimate Tenkaichi had the best map physics when it came out super attack
My personal opinion on RB 1 and RB 2 is that 2 really messed up by not having the cool What If mode that 1 had. 1 had some really fun, fully voice acted, what if scenarios. Like SSJ3 Vegeta pummeling every other SSJ3 character in the game. Another thing I will point out? The XBox 360 version has the better music AND a Japanese Rock song for it's title theme. Just look up the OST for the 360 version of RB 2, I'm sure you'll love it.
I always thought this was the best looking DB game ever
looks better than sparking zero
I was thinking 2010-11, I was pretty close.
So simple. Love that
@@JETLIFEMUZIK I think Tenkaichi 3 does a pretty good job at it on Goku (mid)
Kakarot is the first 3D game to have models that looked better than the Raging Blast Series and that's really sad when you consider it was a decade with a handful of games in between the two
I really liked the way Ultimate Budokai looked.
Raging Blast was my first game and I got it back in 2014
Honestly was visually stunning to me and way smoother compared to raging blast 2, which ended up looking more like plastic, and the dash even looks a bit off
best ui and models in general
I think this game looks better in hd than sparking zero and gameplay is better 😢
Man idk, Sparking Zero gameplay looks good AF lol
@@JarboeGaming lol good yes, but worse then raging blast 2. Understand? Idk lmao
I've been playing it for a year and last week i platinumed it its really good ❤
Yeah raging blast models are good asf. Fighterz models are still the best in the entire franchise.
It's actually their business to look good
2:25 you have the same hairs in RB2
I always throught this
I feel like fighters over does the contrast for the colors
