  • I couldn't be happier with how this backyard diy fire pit turned out. We started by clearing the old pit and laying down paving rocks + sand to create a level surface. From there we used 15" paver blocks in a 4x4 pattern to create the base for the pit. From there we added 3 levels of pavers, connected using concrete glue, and topped offer with paver caps. From there we added premium landscape fabric and our "Red Rock Crush" rocks to form the perimeter.
    In total the fire pit itself has a 4 foot internal diameter, and the entire structure is 15 feet in diameter.
    In total, this circular fire pit was ~$465 dollars. While not cheap in and of itself, it was very cheap relative to what the cost would've been to have a 3rd party build this backyard oasis.

      Yup, I seen a creator make one himself which worked out great, the one the guy made in this video isn’t smokeless but it’s still well made, but you’re right smokeless all the way.

    I built a similar one lasted years but kept cracking so I bought that concrete glue you recommended in this video and some fire bricks to line it with 😂we shall see if it will help get a few more years

    I've built two pits very similar. Using same blocks at least. I can't believe that the base holds up. Both of my pits have cracked most of the blocks in two seasons of use. After the third I have to rebuild as they are so cracked it is near unsafe.
    Highly recommend lining interior with fire brick. This will be my next rebuild method.

      This seems to be the prevailing wisdom. If I do it again, I’ll try using fire bricks

    Looks great. Should have added some pipe underground from inside to outside to help the fire breathe and not create as much smoke.

      @@Janaesolts42on those rocks you can leave one gap and they could have built that pit one more layer higher than they could throw on top a metal mesh if they ever decide to cook on

    Why did they show them sitting around the fire pit without it being lit?? That's like trying to swim in an empty pool ...

      Apologies! Got the drone out after building it and didn’t want to light a fire that day so the landscape adhesive would have time to cure.

      @@HeyDerFolksthinking about doing this myself, how did those landscaping blocks and glue hold up to the heat from fires? I usually build my fires big and hot so I’ve been concerned this wouldn’t be the best material to use. Just curious, thanks for posting the vid!

    • @user_62747
      @user_62747 Місяць тому

      I would think it wasn’t lit because it was not finished. Those blocks will break overtime due to the heat. I’m assuming you’ll be adding some type of casing inside that stands between the fire and stone.

    Those blocks will not hold up to heat. You either need fire rated block or a steel ring, with sand or stone from the base to the bottom of the ring.

  • @Mattie_LIGHT

    i'd use caution with adhesive around areas that are subject to heat. You never know what VOCs or other nasty reactions heat with have / give off interacting with the adhesive.

    Did you remove the rest of the grass or will the landscape fabric and rock kill it for you? And does this help with drainage aeay from the fire pit?

    • @HeyDerFolks
      @HeyDerFolks  6 місяців тому +1

      Operated under the assumption that the rock and fabric would kill it for me, so we left it. To date I haven’t had any drainage issues with the pit itself, though this area of the lawn was prone to flooding from the river in the spring even before the fire pit went in

    Why did you not use any fire brick for the inner and bottom lining? I see lots of cracks in the near future in the landscape block.

    • @HeyDerFolks
      @HeyDerFolks  4 місяці тому +2

      The honest answer is that I did not know fire brick existed and didn't see any for sale at Lowe's. So far so good, but if I had to do it again perhaps fire brick would be a good idea.

    • @HeyDerFolks
      @HeyDerFolks  Місяць тому

      In my experience, no. The inner diameter of the pit relative to the size of the fire is such that there exists a lot of space around the burning wood. This seems to help cut down on the smoke.

    Just be careful with anything that can absorb water. If water stays inside a block and then is heated by the fire, the block can literally explode.

    • @HeyDerFolks
      @HeyDerFolks  9 місяців тому

      You probably don’t have to, the glue will warm and the bricks will still shift if the fire is hot enough for long enough. That being said, I opted to glue the entire thing but I did not glue the bottom row to the square plates

    I wish my yard wasn't at a fucking 20 degree angl 😂😂.. behind my fenced backyard it's wooded area which precious home owner tried to carve out.. it's still a bit sloped and in the wild.
    I am thinking about uprooting a rose bush in the middle of my fenced in part but I'd still have to level it..
    At least of i relocated it the surrounding foliage would be grass and not overgrown with weeds.
