- Zappa Plays Zappa performs an amazing rendition of "Watermelon in Easter Hay" at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, NJ. Dweezil has a special moment on stage where he tears up. Definitely a tribute to his father.

Be man enough to admit you also cried to this.
The first time I watched the video of Frank playing this live I couldn’t stop the tears. What an emotionally moving piece of music. RIP Frank & hats off to his son keeping this music in the public forum
Every time I watch this . I miss Frank as do so many people
Man what a tribute to his father
This will be played at my funeral . What a stunning piece of music. I miss Frank ♥️
He misses his dad. We all miss him, Dweezil. He was a virtuoso musician, shattering satirist, Doo Wop devotee and all-round fun guy. Greatly missed. Watermelon is a haunting piece of work.

The greatest of the greatest!
Frank is eternal His music will be relevant in ten thousand years from now.
No matter how many times I watch this it always fucks me up
Me too...
I tear up just hearing the damn song every time. I can't imagine if it were my dad's song.
This song brings me to tears every time I hear it and I listen a lot
What a powerful performance!
:,( Man, you can really see how emotional it is for him to play this one, and he is really good about keeping that from getting to him usually. From what ive heard this song is very important to him.
This was always one of my favorites as well, probably my favorite solo piece of Franks.
Also, i know people are cheering when Dweez obviously chokes up a bit. I feel that they are just letting him know that they understand why and feel the same way. That they have his back. We all miss Frank. But hopefully Dweezil can see how many people still love and care about this music and that gives him some comfort.
This convinced me to see Dweezil.
i´m crying ... this is the best guitar solo of all time !!!!!!! i´m full of tears
Stately. Distinguished. One of FZ's masterworks, worthy of Stravinsky, Satie or Arvö Part. Bravo, Dweeze. Music is always a revelation of emotion. Let the tears fall--they join all music lovers together.
Actually. His solo on Yo Mama does it for me!
Crazy only now I'm finding this out about Dweezil using Hendrix guitar to perform this, my dad had this in his funeral, even the "ultimately, who gives AF anyway" miss you dad
That is beautiful ❤
You've done Frank proud, Dweezil!
When I saw Frank, this wasn't written yet. When I saw Dweezil, he didn't play it But hearing it brings out the waterworks.
We miss him too Dweezil. Excellent job. I think around 6:20 even the strongest of us are affected
One of the best renditions I have ever seen of this, my favorite FZ instrumental tune.
Bravo to Dweezil and his band.
Incredibly moving.
Every Easter I always find myself gravitating towards this song for the obvious reasons…but this year I found myself thinking let me see/hear what it’s like coming from Dweezil…just, WOW!!! The fact that he simply was able to find the notes near the end there, made me feel like Frank was right there by his side❤️
Amazing performance by father…and by son🙏🏻
I feel Frank smiling at your beautiful vision & both styles u late Fantastic as a son Man & of course Guitarist
Zappa was such a great musician. He really liked dissonance in his music, which isn't for everyone, but when he wanted, he could bring everyone to tears. You're a kick ass player as well Dweez! I miss your Dad too. Peace Bro.
Even though Frank would shudder at the thought but Watermellon has became his Swan Song , for damn good reasons , Zappa & music are the best !
Let us all pause for a moment of reflection.
I choke up everytime I view this. Damn.
Same here. Listened to it 4 consecutive times in the last 45 minutes.
Dweez has become SUCH A GOOD PLAYER! Frank is surely very pleased with him & his amazing ability to do justice to Frank's music.
...and we cry with him.
Channeling Pops from beyond. So well done Dweezil.............
Unless he composes something even close, he is nothing like FZ!
You give it a try
My thoughts exactly. It's his spiritual connection with his dad. We saw him in Portland, Maine 2+ years ago and I would gladly pay to see him next time he comes to town. He pays tribute to his Dad by performing his music with utter expertise and emotion.
My god, that was beautiful! He got the tone, the reverb, the FEEL from the album track just right. The only difference I noted was that the second solo was more melodic, prettier than the original track. It was right about there that he started to tear up. We feel your pain, Dweezil. We miss him too.
The strongest performance EVER!!! Thank you, Dweezil!
The Dweez!!!!!!!
There will be no other!
What an incredible and wonderful moment.
Incredibly moving.
That is a very special Son of a very special Man. I've seen them both and cherish the memories.
You'r Dad love's you and we love you both!
Wow he's good, i just heard this song & his dad's original version for the first time ever. Actually yesterday was the first time i heard any Zappa song. I listened to Muffin Man & inca roads or run. He was ahead of his time i can tell that right off & i can hear his influence now in other songs over the decades.
what a amazing performance, everything was flawless, they really captured the feeling of the song and reproduced it like a charm.
Dweezil is one of a kind, the same kind as his dad was, and they don't come too often
One of the most beautiful things I ever saw. Heavy. Thank you Dweezil. Thank you!
I`m in tears so much soul
Amazing song, thank you !!!
Music is the best.
reading the title , start to play this ...first tones my eyes already begin to water...,thanks for posting,Sylvia. It`s our souls which are reacting so strong ...so glad i have learned about this familie already at a very jong age wish you all well.
we fans are just too emotional... happy Dweezil shared this emotion with us... what an intense guy.... ♥....why can't I have a man like him?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????????????? :/
perfection
Sublime.
He just soooo nonchalantly rips those monster riffs. Some guys play half as good and make twice as many guitar faces. I'll take this over that.
was at this show and will be there july 7th in ocean city nj
Wow. He nailed that didn’t he? I didn’t enjoy the fucking Renault ad right in the middle. Well done Dweezil. Yer pa would be proud.
so beautiful it hurt
You feel that the guitar is also crying....
My favourite Zappa's song. I got a little bit schoked when I saw Deezil, as he gets older it's like amost seeing his father's face. And also way og being: serious when playing and satyrical and fun when not. I personally think that only two musicians have deserve to play this song: "The Dweeeez" as Ike willis used to call him, and Steve Vai.
He cries every time I believe. He wouldn’t play it for the longest time. This is the only song in the catalog Frank didn’t want Gail to sell
Masterful
I have a drummer friend. His name is Ched T.
Ched T. likes Limburger cheese on rye bread............(what a guy)
Fantastic vid! Thanks!
Was this the first time that Dweezil had ever played this live?
At the top, perhaps with a few others, as the greatest guitar solo. The runs in the middle are amazing.
So fucking good
Going July 6th to see at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center MA
😢
genial
I prefer this tone to the original
I do believe Frank said he didn't want this,Black Napkins & Zoot Allures playing live???
There’s a quite a few live recordings of all three of those just on UA-cam
By anyone else other than Dweezil, or Vai.
He used to play this to Dweezil, as he slept. He knew what he was doing.
Reen toon teen toon teenoo eenoo eee
😪
!
I wish Dweezil wore his Dad’s trademark moustache with the chin strip. I would be deeply moved to see him play.
I love the performance but I wish the crowd would just be quiet while he plays and save all the applause and stuff for the end. I understand being excited about watching a great musician do justice to his father but come on, it's just disrespectful to shout over what is clearly an emotional moment. It takes away my enjoyment of the video
A lot of Frank’s riffs had an Indian melodic influence in it. He was a fan of L.Shankar, and the likes. You can see a similar influence in Derek Truck’s guitar riffs. Damn, this made me cry too. Watching the son’s pain , missing his Dad.
🤔
ÉCOUTER JOE'S GARAGE PUNAISE
CE N'EST PAS LE SON L'ENVIE DE FRANK A LA BASE DÉSOLÉ ET POUR MOI .

nope. not even close
nope. not even nope.
Ive played guitar for over 50 years…, and I……. disagree…. its incredibly close…. but thats not really even the point…. I got a chance to meet and talk to Dweezil in ABQ and I will say he is one of the nicest persons I've ever met which makes this song even better….for me
Music is the best.
Frank's music is the best....Fuck all the rest.
