    So historically the way tracks were run was different per each railroad. For example New York Central RR typically ran on the Right side, where as the Pennsylvania RR ran opposite, Left side.
    That would also denote how the tracks were labeled, so here in northeast Ohio, on the Double main, Track 1 is on the right & Track 2 is on the left, since this was Ex-NYC.
    So you can create your own operations as you see fit.

    • @bobpaulino4714

      @nicholas uszko,
      If you don't mind my asking, where in Northeast Ohio? My grandparents lived and father raised about as far northeast as one could go without being in pennsylvania. Grandpa was a judge and knew everyone. A neighbor worked for NYC. We went to the switch towers regularly. Nothing like having the entire building shaking around you as a through passenger or freight came highballing through on the main, or a coal or ore train clawed by going to the harbor. There is a museum at point park, which overlooked the NYC, pennsy, big four yards, and the harbor with it's Lakers and tugs.
      On another note. Not even sure how this video came up. Different kind of toy game site, but even in a toy game, would definitely not be into indiscriminately killing trees

      CNW also famously ran left handed, which continues on former CNW trackage today.
      Amtrak, Metrolink, Coaster, and BNSF run left handed for a portion of the Surfline from San Diego to Oceanside. Solana Beach is an excellent example of this.

      Sounds like if you want direct service, it’ll be pretty steep, but doable with a strong engine (or engines). Of course, if you’re willing to switchback or make several loop bridges, it should be possible to “make it work” at whatever grade you can tolerate, though it may look ugly, or require a lot of switching, and not save as much time over going around as you’d hope.

    • @Dazedloon1776
      @Dazedloon1776 2 роки тому +2

      @@IONATVS Yeah, I imagine it would look pretty ugly, though I am quite happy with what I made because 1. Its scenic, and 2. I'm near as bad at making decent track as Dapper, so I take what I can if it works the first go. I think I might try a steeper line built specifically for the gear locos to run, but I'm currently working on a shunting yard for the ironworks

    I built a line straight to coal mine from the iron works. Requires to do two zig-zag (changing direction). On the iron works side it's 4%, but the we only go down with load. On the other side it's 3.5%. The Heisler can pull 6 cars with coal. But it saves driving 1 h around.
    Also you don't need that much coal.

    When you're making a curve for two parallel lines, you don't necessarily need to make the curves start and end at the same place unless the tracks need to be parallel on the curve for whatever reason.
    Just have one curve start slightly further along than the other, and they can both have the same radius. They'll get further apart towards the centre of the curve, but they'll come back to being perfectly parallel at the end.

    Most railroads in North America use right hand running in multi-track situations. There were SOME American railroads that used left hand running (trying to remember, maybe the C&NW?) and there ARE some situations where there is left handed running depending on the track configuration and the situation.

    So there is at least one railroad that Ran/Runs on the left in North America!
    I don't know if there is more then just one that Ran/Runs on the left, but I assume it's the only Class 1 (Big RR Co.) to run on the left.
    My local railroad! the Chicago & North Western System! (CNW) When they built their original line, west from Chicago they built a single track. They built stations on this single track for their commuter service trains to Chicago on the north side of the railroad tracks. Commuter service passengers usually use the stations during the inbound trips to Chicago only. So when demand was needed for a second track to support RR traffic, they built the second track on the south side, so they didn't have to rebuild their train stations. all the signal infrastructure, and track switches were built for this left hand running throughout the system. Even though Union Pacific bought the CNW in 1995 it was to expensive to change those signals, stations, and track switches so they let it be. The signals for the trains today remain still remain for left hand running in the former CNW territory!

  • @MilwaukeeRoadJames

    Running lines differ from place to place. The usual rule is that Trains will run on one side of the track on dual lines. When it goes in single line it differs all over. Sometimes you can only go one way, others you have a token system and block systems (thats what they are in the UK. when it comes to 3 or more lines it generally depends on the situation. It could be split into several 2 line mainlines or it can be a 4 track with 2 going one way and 2 the other usually the outer line being the slow line and the inner being the fast line. like I said it differs from place to place and sometimes even a short walking distance away the system can be different. Hope this helps.

    Almost everywhere in North America is right hand running track. A big exception to this was the Chicago Northwestern (now Union Pacific). They ran left handed due to the positioning of their stations. Same concept on this line.

  • @lordsherifftakari4127
    @lordsherifftakari4127 2 роки тому

    the Chicago & Northwestern RR used left hand running on their double tracked areas.
    get a Climax and at least 2 more Class 70's for major train movements and long heavy trains.
    the Coal Drag and the Iron Ore Train need more cars to supply the Iron Works with material.
    you will need a passing siding or two on the coal route. so plan ahead for the future.
    the Freight Depot should be off the double track "Main Line" where through traffic can run at speed.
    crossovers on either end will allow trains to enter/exit the depot and access the yards and service tracks as well
    the Double Track should end where the route to the Iron & Coal Mines split with crossovers there and at each industry to the Iron Works.
    make sure there is clearance past the Iron Works for unit Oil Trains to pass by to the Refinery.
    12-15 empties to both Iron & Coal mines and stage them there with a porter and a shed/water tower/cordwood.
    10 cars to the Logging Camp and another set staged & loaded.
    15 cars each for Lumber & Beams staged and ready to roll at the sawmill yard.
    10 cars each at the smelter with Rails & Raw Iron stored ready to roll.
    how many friends can you round up?
    consider 2 per train you plan to operate. mayhaps some lucky viewers for extra trains and load/unload ops or switch manning.

    If you want to do more double tracks then sure there is the sawmill but extend that to the wye for the smelter and coal/iron line or have 1 line go to the higher iron route and the other line continue down. Also, the other option with the coal mine is do what Hyce did which is cut the line over the mountain, there is a perfect cut where he went through and you just need to go down the side of the mountain from there

    I´d say get your strongest engines set up and make all the runs together, to get masses of loads to the industries ^^ you know the math and if you unload all of them, you´re gonna be fast on making money for more trains for everyone.

    In the united states its usually the right being the main direction, but there are exceptions to it. So you should be fine left hand running.

    Here, Madrid, Spain, some trains go left rail, even when we go right side in trafic, with underground metro. BUT overground metro, is reversed. And the Cercanias lines are allways right rail.
    So... ¿Each Region to each own?

    Maybe you should find out if the freight Depot is double-sided like you can put a track on the other side of the freight Depot so you don't have to do a loop see if that actually works just lay track on the other side of the freight Depot and see if Will unload a load then you don't have to make a loop

    You're using freight depot as left hand drive, that's why this new double line is also left hand drive.
