Good review! Laco is imho the best manufacturer today to get the most original "Fliegeruhr" watches. There are other german brands like Stowa that make very similar watches but Laco sticks to the original as close as possible. In fact, this one is one of the few B-watches that are extremely close to the original (besides the automatic movement what Ariel mentioned, too). Laco is along Stowa the only original "Fliegeruhr" manufacturer that makes those watches until today. Wempe (Glashütte), A. Lange & Söhne (Glashütte) and IWC (Schaffhausen, Switzerland) don't produce these watch styles anymore. Those mentioned were btw the three other brands that produced these watches around the 1940s. Two side facts for those who are interested: 1) These watches were NOT worn by the pilots but by the Navigators on board. Pilots wore Chronographs from companies like Tutima or Hanhart at that time. 2) The five original manufacturers did not produce these watches because they wanted to. 1940 they were forced by the German Luftwaffe (by the "Reichsluftfahrtministerium" to be precise) by law to produce Flieger watches. Best regards from Germany
i got mine a week ago its just fantastic the coating looks really great and gives a soft sensation to the touch, the sapphire and blue hands over the mat black is beautiful. At night c3 superlumimova everywhere! it has an eta 2824 automatic that obviously can also be hand winded.
Personally, I think antireflective coating on the outside of a crystal is a mistake. Putting an easily scratched coating on a nearly scratch proof crystal makes no sense to me.
nice watch. i agree, at 6:50 the sapphire crystal should be ar coated on both sides, especially in this day and age. 990 euro ($1165 USD) is a fair price for a good watch. laco make a good watch, not patek or lange good, but a decent workhorse that will do what it says on the packet without charging a stupid price. its interesting to note that laco are not all talk and faux patina either, being one of the 5 watchmakers to make fliegers for the german luftwaffe (air force), along with stowa, iwc, wempe and a lange & sohne.
@@egwpisteuw I don't understand why people are scared of reflections. There's no way I want a soft coating on an ultra hard crystal. Literally the dumbest idea ever.
are you kidding me?!!. looks AWESOME on your wrist. you carry it very well. i wouldn't go smaller. Fliegers are meant to look and wear Large. what the circumference of your wrist??please. thanks for the review
I really like this design. I have a similar style pilot from Archimede from nearly 10 years ago and I think Laco does it better. How big is your wrist?
I believe the original 55mm Luftwaffe watch had fixed bars so the rivets were needed to fix the strap on. The FL number on the side was the contract number it was supplied to the German Air Ministry on.
Flieger watches - you either love them or are indifferent to them (I think they're hard to hate)... ;-) However, I'm not on board with the 45mm and the sandblasted case.
I would like to purchase this watch; I am a big guy with large arms. I was wondering how comfortable this 45 mm watch is with those straight lugs. Anyone know?
Wal-Mart (and any Chinese knock-offs) doesn't offer a watch with similar design as this Laco (or Stowa, A. Lange & Söhne, IWC, or Wempe variants). If they do, they don't come close to this simple design. monochrome-watches.com/the-history-of-the-pilot-watch-part-five-b-uhr/ I was thinking of purchasing one of the lower cost Laco models, but decided on something else. I'd be interested in hearing what watch design you would prefer.
Im a Rolex, Omega, AP guy. If I had to wear a $1200 watch I would look at Oris pilot. I could go over this Laco's lack of wrist presence but that would be subjective. Bottom line in the watch game, you should have a watch that looks as much as it cost.
A watch designed and built for the Luftwaffe and the Nazi war machine. Somehow that is never mentioned. That is not right. Please don't gloss over it like every watch geek seems to. --Michael
goldsaint7 True and they are cool watches. The inevitable issue is that in war many great technical and design innovations happen. I just don't think people should be shy of the truth when it comes to what the watch was associated with. Ferdinand Porsche told a biographer that designing war vehicles for the Third Reich was his favorite work. Go figure. Haha. --Michael
No one says Russian watches are evil communist watches. No one talks about controversial Swiss banks investing in watchcompanies. The list of cool technology and shady governments is very long. Everyone picks on the Germans because of heavy propaganda the last 80 years. The luftwaffe was just an airforce like any other airforce, big deal. It's a cool watch and I want one.
Sjaak De Vries Fair enough. When someone reviews these in the future I would like to hear them point out the actual correct history behind the case design and use of the watch. State the history accurately without glossing over the unsavory and I am right there with you. If I bought this watch though it would be in the original dinner plate 50+ mm size. --Michael

The brand has great history! Also the only brand that is still faithful to the original design!

After 4 years still intact amazing watch!

Your Wrist size ?

Good review, had this watch for 5 years and love it.
I don't like AR coatings on the outside of domed crystals because of how easy they scratch.
Triple coating on the inside of the crystal is a nice alternative but to really get no reflection at all you need it on the outside.

Sand blasted steel is because the original were aluminum. Trying to keep it close to the original as possible.
I really like this design. I have a similar style pilot from Archimede from nearly 10 years ago and I think Laco does it better. How big is your wrist?
Can you tell me what is your wrist size?
I believe the original 55mm Luftwaffe watch had fixed bars so the rivets were needed to fix the strap on. The FL number on the side was the contract number it was supplied to the German Air Ministry on.
Mugshot That is all true. Either Laco or Stowa made a limited edition replica of the 55mm watch a few years ago. It was ridiculously large.
The aforementioned bid for the pilot watches’ specs was issued by Luftwaffe and not then-German government.
B Uhr is _”Beobachtung’s Urh”_ or _”Observer’s watch”._ The original watch was intended for navigators in bomber crews and were 55mm diameter.
my strap broke a loop in about two days, and they said "tough cookies" since I got it on ebay. The loops are very weak and thin, strap is nice

Ronnie DJ Did you purchase one Ronnie?
Has Laco ever made a higher-grade version of this watch? I mean, movementwise.
Thanks!
You can upgrade to Top Grade SW-200 for $150. Seems worth it. Nice watch for $1340.
I own a Saarbrücken, made in 2022. Excellent watch. But a little too small for my wrist.
Beobachtungsuhr = Observation watch
Baurart Flieger = Built Style Flyer
The lugs won't stick out past your wrist if you put it over a flight jacket 😉
Fantastic watch
Looks okay but not my style. Will wear this before a Shinola though.
whats with the 24 minute ad HI THIS IS MARC FROM WATCHES
It's not pronounced "BEE Yorr". It's pronounced "Bay OOR".
Why doesnt anyone own and review a 55mm...!
I own a Saarbrücken. Its too small for my wrist.
Looks like a simple watch, like Timex indiglo, does it have a light?, and is it water resistant.
Check out the Hamilton Khaki Field mechanical watch. Much nicer IMO but I've got the Hamilton on my wrist now.
an amazing underrated watch too.
Jason de Plater fake though. This is real Nazi design
Well I'll give you that, this watch does look more Nazi than the Hamilton which is based on U.S. Military.
This timepiece is classic along with stowa
Only if you have soy-boy pansy wrists
Ottimo laco
Sinn makes one for the same price...same eta movement
silkhead44 laco is og balls offer a miota
If this is over $500 I'm gonna flip out!
over $1000
bonustraka, congratulations, you just killed him
:)))
The dial looks like the muhle glashutte terrasport ii
I subscribe to Ablogtowatch to see all the watches I should stay away from. Keep up the good work with shitty watches!
I own the B dial model and love the authentic design but Laco is cheap rubbish inside out.
This model has ETA 2824 and I suppose that this caliber is reliable...
Looks like a $49 watch from Walmart.
The list price for this model is $1,195
borbetomagus -----I know, just goes to prove that there's a sucker born every minute.

Paul L nah it looks like a classic pilots watch, one of the best
I just can't see anything attractive about this watch. It isn't even cool. It was designed as a blunt instrument and that's all it is.
The 55mm version is cool.
The brutalist aesthetic is what is attractive about it to me. It's fully functional and nothing more which is why it's cool in my opinion.
The ultimate tool watch.
Now THAT is a dull looking watch!
these are low end garbage , what kind of reputable German company uses $20 Japanese Movements , what a joke ( in some models )
ETA is a Swiss movement. It’s also probably modified by Laco
Looks like a timex..

I'm going to buy this watch to piss off people like you.
Sjaak De Vries Haha. You are funny.
