    Lovely authentic reproduction Dave. The case looks like it was glass bead blasted. Another way to dull the metal was a process called parkerising, which was a coating achieved with chemicals & heat. Mostly used to stop oxidation especially in wet/moist environments & also to minimise reflection for soldiers fighting in the jungles or forests.

    LACO is a great watch company. I have a Cuxhaven Navy watch that I absolutely love!! The full mechanical watches are my favorites!! Excellent review as always Dave.....plus you washed your hands 😁👏🙌👐

      Trying to set a good example... and your Cuxhaven is like a mini grail of mine. Saw it first on your channel and was blown away.

    The most historically accurate flieger (B-Uhr) available is Laco’s 55mm model. They make both types A and B.

    I have a Stowa classic flieger 36mm for 10 years. Great company and watch and a Stowa tybe b meister in 43. Also love it. Both companies make great watches.

    Stunning watch. For an original Flieger, Laco offers very good value. It is a difficult choice between the A and B dial, though. Thanks for the review Dave. Your photography is awesome, by the way.

    Awesome. I'll have to get a Laco at some point, but I'd probably go with a Type B dial. Absolutely love the blue hands on this one though.

    I love Laco. I have the Aachen (42mm) and recently got the Dortmund (45mm), which is the B-dial equivalent of the Westerland here. I’ll get the Westerland eventually, and the Hanhart MK I Chronograph (40mm) which was one of the most used watches for actual Luftwaffe Pilots (the above two were for bombers and navigators). That will be my Luftwaffe collection complete.
    45mm is fine on my 8” wrist; I’ll comfortably wear anything from 39mm to 50mm.

    Dear Sir - thank you for this good review. Just pulled the trigger on a Laco Saarbrücken (45 mm) with an upgraded (aut) movement. Should land on the doorstep within 10 dans or so. I’m a fairly Big and tall dude coming in over just about 2 meters / 210-220 pounds, so I am looking forward to this watch. I also have lost some of my eyesight, so legibility is key to me especially now. Take care, stay safe and merry Christmas from Tino, 🇩🇰

    Nice review and comparison. It’s a shame the manual wind movement is so much more expensive.

    It’s an awesome watch for sure, but I don’t see myself ever spending anywhere near that price for one. Great close ups of this. Good video!

    In India, there's a leading watch manufacturer and seller company known as Titan..
    They produce a large variations (automatic, quartz, chronograph, divers, smart watch) of watches price range from $20 to $300..
    They have the 'edge' lineups as slim as 3.5mm..

    As I've said before : I absolutely LOVE Laco Flieger's but I just can't get into a type A dial.
    I'm type B all the way.
    Great post Dave. I am drooling over the Type B version though.
    Anyone got $1350 I can borrow?

    Great vid! I heard that pilots would ware the watches on the outside of the their jackets when flying, cold!
    And I heard if it is true that the first watches were made with pocket watch movements making them big.

    • @timo_8488
      @timo_8488 4 роки тому

      The specs for the B-Uhrs included them to have a chronograph movement. The only chronos at that time were pocket watch movements. That’s why 55mm.

    Great watch and great review. I was searching for a Flieger and finally end up with the Steinhart Flieger I think it comes around 42-43mm and is perfect for smaller wrist. Beside that I would strongly recommend Laco to have one of the original brands since IWC can be too over priced :)

    Nice review, Dave. I have both the Type A Westerland and the Type B Dortmund, which I prefer - the extra space on the 45mm dial really adds to the legibility. I believe the finish is achieved by bead-blasting, and is meant to mimic the look of the original aluminium case.

    • @andrewd7586
      @andrewd7586 4 роки тому

      Steve Bayliss Spot on, glass bead blasting!👍🏼 Another form is parkerising or a coating to dull the metal. As Dave said, to stop reflection, more importantly when soldiers were fighting in the jungles/forests.

    You can get a Laco with a 6497 in it but it costs a bomb. But it would be a lot closer in terms of the movement - 18,000 vph vs 28.900...

    Great video thanks, I've been wanting a Stowa Fliega classic for some time. Now will be considering this. Love to know your opinion on the Stowa Vs Laco? I believe the Laco is more faithful to the original. However I love that the Stowa has a display back, I like the onion crown and the case shape is probably more comfortable and practical.

    Speaking of historical accuracy, the original WWII flieger watches were 55 mm in diameter, and were intended to be worn outside of the jacket. BTW, cosmetic comment re: your title -- it's "flieger", not "fleiger", and it's "powered", not "powed".

      Avg. Joe Watch Reviews - Agreed.
      Funnily enough, the Laco watches I do believe are worth the asking price are the individually aged models. All hand aged, not one the same. Absolutely frickin' amazing watches.
      They cost around $2K though..

    I don't understand pilot style watch, what's the point of them ?
    Comparing to a diver, the spec is almost one sided, divers are more durable, more lume, more water resistant.
    Compare to a dress, dress watch are more classy, more elegant, easier under the cuff.
    So what's the point of pilot watch? Price is not an argument as there are different tier of each kind. So someone please help me understand it

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  4 роки тому +2

      From a practical standpoint, the main benefit is legibility, they're tool watches that are meant to be able to read quickly at a glance. But for most people now it's more about the history and heritage, probably more so than almost any other type of watch. If you're into aviation and aviation history, there's a real allure to having something connected to that interest.

    • @jiahuilai608
      @jiahuilai608 4 роки тому

      Dive watch can be read just as easily, with the added benefit of a bezel to time things..
      But i do get it that some people like the aesthetics connecting to aviation history, it's just not for me.
      Personally, dive watch just suits me better :)
