    Hey nice vid on the QK65v2! I like the fun vibes you give off. FYI I own the Neo65 and I don't believe it uses the magnetic cable as you mentioned around 2:10 - that piece of tech was actually introduced starting from the Neo70 onwards. Keep making good content 🙂

    Homie always coming through with all the sound tests! Super cool to see them offering top mount for this board, I wouldn’t have expected that from QK. It’s too bad they don’t offer a soldered option for plateless, but I suspect that QK sells almost no soldered PCBs across their lineup.

    hello mr akeynote, will you do or have done a “how to lube stabs” video? would love to see what your recommendations are to be rattle free! do you do xht bdz on wire and 205g0 on housings only? any descriptions would be appreciated!

    • @Akeynote
      @Akeynote  11 місяців тому

      Yoooo thanks for the super thanks! ❤. I guess I could, but I don’t do anything special😂. I started the hobby back in 2018 and we only ever used 205g0 back then. So I still only use that. I think the biggest thing is to just use good stabilizers that have good tolerance like tx stabs. Meletrixs and QK’s newest stab variants are good as well. If you absolutely have to owlstabs are fine but you can sometimes run into a bad wire. Taeha and Alexis have really good lubing vids and I cant really add to those. I pretty much have used taeha’s technique since the very beginning. I may do though sounds like a fun idea.

    Think6.5's screen bezel did not ruin the outline of the side profile, also not adding another LED on top left corner to mess up the whole design.

    I actually like the screen placement. Losing 2 keys ain't gonna kill you since you're using a 65% already. You can just layer your way out of it.
    Color me weird, but what I personally don't like about it is the light bar. I guess they put it there for balance with the screen on the right portion of the board, but I find it (with the screen) a bit much for my taste.

There are so many options out there and probably this is something an enthusiast would definitely be excited about! Unfortunately, I don’t think so. Maybe if someone wants to make a 3d print file. They include extra clips with the kit just incase you break them. Also, I don’t think it would be easy to break these clips. I rebuilt the board over ten times for the sound tests and just experimentation. Needless to say the clips are still as good as day one. Your concern is valid though which is why I mentioned it in the video.

      @ImOnMy116 Рік тому +1

      for whatever it’s worth, I think most folks newer to the scene will get more mileage out of a polycarbonate plate than an aluminum plate. An alu plate is definitely stiffer, and while it will sound different with different switches, I don’t think aluminum plates will ever sound super deep even with all foams. Polycarbonate plates can definitely sound deeper with the right switches / foams or clack without foams. I suspect top mount with a PC plate would be particularly lively (based on sound tests I’ve heard for this board). It’s all preference at the end of the day though, I wouldn’t be shocked if someone disagrees with me on this.

      happy to help! I’ve tried plates of nearly all materials (excluding some of the super exotic like UMHWPE and ABS), reality is it’s the combination of switches, plate, mounting style, room acoustics, even spring weight and switch lubing style that effect the sound. Best advice I’d say is try not to get caught up trying to chase an exact sound signature. If you’re trying to replicate a youtube sound test, you’ll always be disappointed. Try to enjoy the build on its own merits, and don’t be afraid to try out different things and/or mod to your preference.

    I understand where you are coming from talking about how the screens and leds are available on other boards and they do not get flack.
    My bigger problems with this board are:
    1) they thinned out the side bezels making it look cheap akin to neo65.
    2) Visible split at the front of the case doesn't allude to it being a premium solid block of a device.
    I wouldn't have these gripes if the qk65 v1 didn't get it so right in the first place. The v1 has proportionate side bezels and no visible splits in the case design. Overall the v1 looks more premium than this board.

All to save 30 seconds. Said the same about the JRIS and the Cycle7. Just will never understand it. Anyway, yes I'm not that impressed with this board from the looks. The main problem I have with this board is the sound, and the aesthetics. I don't like the screen, and the clackiness of the board. What I loved about the original qk65 was the simplistic look of it, and the deeeeeeep sound. Qk65 v1 is still the deepest sounding keyboard I've ever heard. I see the Neo better than the V2 in every way. It has the same clacky sound signature with the clean simplistic look, and plus it's cheaper.

    Nothing wrong with the board, just bit too much going around it.
    If there would have been an option to opt either or none this would have been a hit on the first stop!

    this board flopped so hard they had to release a classic version without the led and screen lmao

      lol it didn’t flop and they didn’t have to release the classic. They saw an opportunity to make more money with less materials. Win win 👍🏽.

    all recent QK boards are ass compared to their neo counterpart to be honest. like why the fuck drop the via compatibility? the neos can have wireless AND via at the same time.

    • @Akeynote
      @Akeynote  Рік тому +1

      You’re entitled to an opinion, but that’s not the hill I would die on. Via doesn’t support the screen tech configurations, hence can’t be used for anything that’s need to function a screen.

    I sincerely despise how inconsistent QwertyKeys are with anything. This keyboard is a perfect evidence of this.
    Yet again, the gaskets mount to the PCB meaning you could build this keyboard plateless. But they don't offer a solder PCB and their excuse is "well no one buys them". Somehow this has never been an issue with previous QK boards and isn't an issue at all with their Neo series which is now replacing QK when it comes to a newcomer's first build (hence why the "But QK is for the newcomers to be their first keyboard" doesn't work here). Listening to Maker Mods' sound tests of this keyboard plateless: they finally got something nice! But they don't want you to build a keyboard this way. (By the way I think there's some work to be done with your recording setup. This keyboard ended up sounding incredibly thin in your tests compared to others I've heard of this board.)
    Another pain point is the lack of QMK/VIA support because of the added screen no one asked for. Considering the state of QK Config from all I've heard of it, that's a huge no-no for a gimmick that wears off very very quickly. Last I checked there also were keyboards with QMK/VIA support despite having an extra screen. You simply needed another software just for it.
    I'd also argue that this screen doesn't make this keyboard any special. The mounting options are special and it'd be even more special if you could build it plateless, the design is special, the sound is special. Unfortunately QK is a company that lives off hype. One that rejects valid criticisms and still addresses those in future keyboards (see them refusing to add a broader layour support on hotswap PCBs as they don't want to use flipped hotswap sockets to avoid interferences...)
    I dunno this keyboard just ain't it, like most of QK's recent boards. The plastic clips for the top case already is just... Incredibly stupid. Why not use magnets like Monokei did on the Kei V2, or a ball-catch system like TKD have done on Cycle7 and Cycle8 alongside Mykeyclub and their Jris80? Or why not just go back to screws alltogether? It's the same kind of nonsensical decision making that brought us the magnetic connector which came to replace ribbon cables they were using before... Even though JST cables are a thing and are also more convenient than ribbon cables. They didn't have to re-engineer a whole proprietary connector that will bring even more warranty cases on the gigantic pile they already have.
    PS: People didn't hate on the Think6.5 V2's badge because people still had the choice between a corner badge or one in the same position as the QK65 V2's screen. QK doesn't give you any options and will instead redirect you to a completely different keyboard (like you did). This ain't it.

  • @billybob7502
    @billybob7502 Рік тому

    For me, the board flops. It had the perfect sound profile; this one sounds like every other generic entry board on the market. The lights and screen feel gimmicky, serving no practical function. it lost what made the qk65 the king in the first place and is a significant downgrade in my opinion.

    I will never understand why someone would enter a hobby like this and load up on low quality budget boards like this. If you need ONE keyboard and aren't really into the intricacies of the hobby-- sure. Get a QK board. But if you're an enthusiast, or entering the enthusiast realm-- save up for a high quality keyboard you actually want and not a dozen cope budget boards you will have no use for after jumping to the next one.

      @creationfied Agreed. It's classic keeb elitism. My theory is these people joined the hobby 4 years ago instead of 2 years ago like a bunch of us and now they're salty that boards below $200 can sound and look as good or even better than the best money could buy a few years back.

      Hey! I’m one of those lol. But definitely not an elitist. I like the new realm of boards. Cheaper and widely available are definitely pluses in my book. I would never want to go back to 2018 supply lol.

      This is such a goofy take. Mostly bc I’m sure you’re referring to Kohaku/Unikorn/910 boards lol. Which are not worth it for the price you pay. Especially since all you “enthusiasts” are gonna do the same boring thing. MX Blacks on Alu. How original.
