My father Captain Harvey Beebe Jr was a 747 captain. He flew 47.versions of the 747 during his 32 years of meritorious service with Pan Am. He started on the old DC-7'S and DC -6's. He never put a scratch on himself,an airplane or anyone he transported. Not professionally or privately. Overall he flew for 58 years and over 55,000 flight hours. The best on the planet!!!
My Father was a Mechanic for Pan American from 1966 to 1991. He met my Mother at a Christmas party, she worked at the Pan Am building in NYC as a secretary. He went to work for Delta in 1991 until 2004. I really cannot say enough nice things about Delta Airlines but I will just say that I enjoyed this video. NO ONE ANYWHERE should think that the company they work for will be there forever. Thank you
I wish Pan Am still existed. It had classic, using the code name Clipper and naming there craft "Victor" and "Maiden of the Seas". Shame it doesn't anymore.
My mother was a flight attendant for Pan Am from 1963 until they went bust in 1991 (she went to United after they purchased the routes and didn't retire until 2012!) It was a sad demise for a once great airline. It was a great place to work in the 1960s and 1970s. Even flight attendants were quite well paid. Pan Am flew everywhere and flight attendants got to stay in 5 star hotels having 3 day lay overs in all sorts of beautiful cities. With deregulation things went south from the early 1980s. My mother took a pay cut every year from 1982 to 1991. They went from staying at nice hotels with long lay overs to staying at crappy cheap hotels in the middle of nowhere, going back the next day.
I flew Pan Am India to Frankfurt, changing for London. Around 1990. I stowed a drum in the galley under instructions of cabin crew. On disembarking at Frankfurt I forgot the drum. I remembered within 20 minutes and went back to the plane. I informed the ground staff. I was arrogantly told that there was no way I left a drum on board. That their expert searchers would have found it. I went away bewildered and checked with my fellow travellers. I returned 10 minutes later and insisted that the drum was on board. Same individual then said doors are closed, plane has pushed off, nothing to be done. I later got the drum returned from JFK, where it was discovered in the galley where I left it. That took place at Frankfurt, same airport where the bomb was loaded on for the Lockerbie disaster.
I feel sorry for the people who had died on board the flight, so many lives just for the US not wanting to apologize for their mistake of shooting down a plane with 290 people on board..
@@someonee3186 … the Lockerbie flight exploded over Lockerbie, Scotland. You know, kind of pretty far away from the Continental U.S and territories. So, unless the US somehow shot a middle from the East coast just to shoot down a Pan Am flight over Scotland, I seriously doubt they did.
Pan Am was deliberately killed by American Airlines. Pan Am was in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but had worked out a deal with Delta Airlines whereby Pan Am would be almost solely an airline serving the Caribbean (Pan Am had sold their DCA/LGA/BOS shuttle along with their European routes). In the meantime Delta would supply funding to Pan Am as they reorganized. Pan Am operated in Chapter 11 for about a year steadily downsizing. And doing OK. But as Pan Am became an airline that operated almost solely to the Caribbean, American Airlines (the only other US carrier with extensive routes to the Caribbean) went into predator mode and steadily cut their fares to the Caribbean. As a result, Pan Am losses increased every week. Their yield per passenger was decreasing at an horrific rate. Pan Am couldn't afford the losses. American could. Delta was supplying funding to Pan Am but the deal between the two airlines allowed Delta to bail out of the deal anytime Pan Am's cash went below a certain level. Due to the losses caused by American Airlines price cutting Pan Am's cash fell below the required level, Delta bailed out of the deal and Pan Am folded on a few hours notice. Pan Am's last flight was #436 (IIRC) and was from Bridgetown, Barbados to Miami. My business had 11 passengers on 219 as well as 17 stranded in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I have never flown American Airlines since and never will.
kris littledale Pan American World airways sold off the pacific division to united and when pan American shut down Delta retained the original routes. So I think you were talking about Trans world airlines.
It’s a shame American Airlines and Delta caused the death of this amazing airline. Pan American Airlines was such an icon and still deserves to be. I, unfortunately, was never lucky enough to fly Pan Am and wish I could have. I will avoid AA and Delta because of this if I can.
I'm sure it was a good airline, but it was plagued by accidents. In TWA's case, it was mainly stupid decisions by the higher ups of the airline, and Flight 800 sealed the fate of the company.
I think they mighta been. And their flagship airplanes were 747s. But it was a big airline! They had an extensive fleet, and the DC-10 was probably really optimal for some kinds of routes. And most importantly ... Although crude seeming, I have come to nostalgically love the DC-10, with all its horror-show mystique. Note the L-1011 is conspicuously absent.
Kamil Demircan They ceased operations at the end of 1991. They'd already been in financial trouble for some time. One of last nails in the coffin was the rise in oil prices during the Gulf War.
Nice aircraft shots but the noise background, why the hell do you have to play such garbage, can't call it music. It didn't fit with what was showing, you have some way to go in the sound business.
Terry, not to bag Alec because it is evident how much research he puts into these videos, we are not all "of the sound" ilk. My alter ego writes jingles and whatnot for a living. All this to say- I agree with you. The music is so inappropriate as he would have had more impact looping the Pan Am jingles together and concluding with their last ever airport transmission which said: Ladies and Gentlemen, Pan Am has ceased operation. All flights are canceled.

And AA went into bankruptcy last year, saved by USA (US Airlines. Didn't notice it's initials were USA)
+TheDavis2211 US airways you mean
+Yemin the lemon I stand corrected.
kris littledale Pan American World airways sold off the pacific division to united and when pan American shut down Delta retained the original routes. So I think you were talking about Trans world airlines.

+Allec Joshua Ibay 767s or 777s?
Farhan The Badass Scizor 747s and A380s are already being considered obsolete... Not many airlines are considering them in their fleets.
Allec Joshua Ibay True actually

you and me both from now on- for me anyway...
So sad how in 1 year (1988) an airline went from being the best in the world to being kinda like aeroflot
They love these two planes 747-100 and 747-300
I'm sure it was a good airline, but it was plagued by accidents. In TWA's case, it was mainly stupid decisions by the higher ups of the airline, and Flight 800 sealed the fate of the company.
