My Dad was a foreman in aircraft electronics maintenance for EASTERN AIR LINES...worked from May 1945-January 1965 when he retired...our fondest memories were when Dad took us to the end of the runway (back then you could do that) and watched "his birds" land and takeoff....soooo proud of Dad (rip)..he loved EASTERN....we did too...glad he never lived to see what Frank Lorenzo did to EASTERN....
Thanks. Only flew on Eastern a couple times, in the '80's. Happy 'commuter' flights NYC to Boston. Enjoyed here the animation of the L-1011's. Fave airliner of the 80's & '90's for many, including me. Also, I feel, among the best looking, along with 727's, and old 707's.
Carlitos Carrisoza I know it was just funny for ex my school was divided between a high school and a elementary near the high school there was an airport you could see the planes really close look a video on it it's called aguadilla airport or BQN
I flew Eastern once, from New Orleans to New York (LGA). Good flight, miss these old airlines (remember Braniff Intl, National, PAA, TWA, etc?). Btw, I like the nostalgic music on this video (very appropriate)!
I worked for Eastern for a few years in Miami. I still miss the airline days before many of the big US airlines either went bankrupt or were taken over. People actually dressed up to fly back then and planes were rarely full.
I think that Eastern was one of the most ethical airlines ever. That can be inferred from its choice of planes. 1st example:Back then in the 70s,747s were all the rage.Eastern never operated them on a large scale, seeing the better economy of the Tristar, which was actually the more sensible choice. They are immune to peer pressure in the industry. 2nd example:They were the first US carrier to operate an Airbus. More or less there is apprehension to accept EU planes in America, but Eastern took the lead.
Yemin the lemon eastern airlines 401 was in 1974 there was another eastern airlines crash in 1990 than they shut down but actually it became bankrupt in 1991
mostly i agree allec Eastern went bankrupt for that resson if you want to know a airline that want bankrupt partly cause of a crash...........Pan Am yup it had the 1988 Lockbrie bombing
Loved flying Eastern in the 70’s! Great Airline, very forward thinking, innovative and well run. Created and run by no less than Eddie Rickenbacker, WWI ace and American hero. Apollo 8 astronaut Frank Borman ran it for its most profitable decade in the 1970’s. Airline deregulation and Frank Lorenzo really killed EA with his hostile takeover, union busting and wage cutting schemes. Already reeling from deregulation in 85 he mined EA until it was bankrupt, their workforce out of jobs, their pensions gone. This to support his Texas Air Corporation. He previously busted the unions at Continental Airlines, slashing jobs, wages and pensions but Continental was able to survive. He went on to do this to United Airlines, Frontier Airlines and a few other ones. Deregulation changed the airline industry forever and Investors like Lorenzo saw financial opportunity. My favorite EA jet was the L1011 Tri-Star (although BWIA’s Tri-Stars livery was beautiful). These jets were ahead of their time.
Worked on the EAL advertising account 1987-1988 at Campbell-Ewald, before the strike and the Chapter 11. Flew to HQ in MIA more than a few times. The Tristar had an interesting harmonic on takeoff, totally unique. Unfortunately mismanaged for years before Frank Lorenzo and Texas Air Corp. In fact it can be argued that the EAL acquisition doomed TAC.
My first flight was summer 1968 JFK - HOU on an Eastern DC-8-63, one of the big stretch ones. Bulkhead first row of coach. I was nine years old and flew down with my grandmother.
Oh, I miss the old days of flying. And I'm not that old. Nowadays, air travel is so mundane. It used to be special. You didn't dress like a slob, you dresses up. People didn't look for the absolute cheapest fare and you weren't nickled and dimed, either. I loved collecting model airplanes and wanted a flyer pin from every airline. I loved Eastern Airlines. No real reason, just thought they were cool. This was a great video. Thank you...
Is anyone happy because of that "Eastern Air Lines is back".
Dženan
Dženan ツ and then
Ceased
But merger with Swift air now :(
Me to
Eastern Airlines is back but now it is called Eastern Airlines LCC and the operate 767s and 777s and they fly to New York,And Guayaquil.
A great airline in her prime! Thank you for uploading.
Beautiful tribute.
that L-1011 was gorgeous. looked great in Eastern colors

This is good news! I flew on the original Eastern Airlines. Now I can fly them again.
Why does your face reminds meof Capt. John Cox. ?
Nice video, and I love the L 1011s, but it would have been cool to see some piston props in Eastern livery. Electras and Dugs, etc
Eastern Airlines is back! I saw a Boeing 737 of Eastern Airlines at my school last Thursday!
Carlitos Carrisoza your school is an airport you high don't you mean it passed near your school just messing
Aviation Geek I know that I should've corrected that, I said that because my school is near a airport.
Carlitos Carrisoza I know it was just funny for ex my school was divided between a high school and a elementary near the high school there was an airport you could see the planes really close look a video on it it's called aguadilla airport or BQN
Carlitos Carrisoza And it became defunct again.
Sad.
I flew Eastern once, from New Orleans to New York (LGA). Good flight, miss these old airlines (remember Braniff Intl, National, PAA, TWA, etc?). Btw, I like the nostalgic music on this video (very appropriate)!

Dory Gets Hairy the airline did end up in 1991 but it returned flying again but for now it's only a charter airline
I worked for Eastern for a few years in Miami. I still miss the airline days before many of the big US airlines either went bankrupt or were taken over. People actually dressed up to fly back then and planes were rarely full.

Labor strikes leading to high costs and eventual bankruptcy.

Eastern is in fact back It's been here for almost half a decade. (Came back in 2018, commenced operations in fall of 2019)
If only NWA (Northwest Airlines) came back (merged with Delta).
